Ok my short comment on the New 2021 Apple TV 4K.

Did I regret upgrade - No.
Is it worth upgrade - Yes.

Improvement

  • Remote - Now I am confirmed using the new remote as remote instead previously I use TV Remote. Huge improvement.
  • The New Apple TV 4K obvious faster - now I can set Interface in Dolby Vision and no more jerking.
Above 2 improvement already worth the upgrade. biggrin.gif

I also notice it is much clear video quality and better sound quality, but is this placebo, I cannot sure, but I feel as like others comment it is better.

Beside this, I no longer feel weird on two 60fps HDR film, it just simply look good and no more shaggy feel anymore - Gemini Man & also Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.
This two film was record as 60fps for UHD Blu-ray.

Congrats
Seems like Apple make good enough upgrade to make people happy

It can pair with any display as long it is 16:9 aspect ratio.

Not working for 21:9 aspect ratio as everything will be stretching.

You mean like issue link below?

I never had that issue on older Apple TV 4K and new Apple TV 4K as well.

Not that severe but its like flicker (1second) of green lines and thats it. Maybe I’ll try changing the cables and see if it helps.

Wish Apple actually give HDMI cables inside their retail box for AppleTV 😅

Maybe all my cable is HDMI 2.1, so never face.

Actually Apple do give HDMI cable for US/UK buyer as I had join an Apple TV 4K FB group and notice all of them is getting it.
Very unfair they didn't give us. Haha!

For those who intend to buy new Apple TV 4K (2021) Make sure your HDMI cable can support 4k HDR. I had problems with display and I suspect that my cables are too old as I was only using 1080 previously. I've just changed to Ugreen HDMI 2.1 cable and under testing now.

Cable support range is very important.

HDMI ver 1.4 and below is trash now if you want 4K HDR in full speed especially if you are turning on Dolby Vision.
Previously I often get screen blank or garbage after playback 4K Dolby Vision when using HDMI ver 2.0 cable.

So later I decide change to HDMI ver 2.1 cable which normally label for 8K 60hz but Dolby Vision is required more bandwidth than 4K HDR.
Off course HDMI ver 2.1 had no impact if your TV not support HDMI 2.1

Just grab HDMI ver 2.1 will settle everything and more future proof. But please keep in mind, HDMI ver 2.1 is much fragile and easier break, so take care and pull out gently.

Thanks for the tip! I never did think about that. Considering that I connect my Apple TV 4K to a soundbar first (for the Dolby Atmos support) and then to the TV, I would assume then better to have both those cables at HDMI 2.1 right?

They is no need connect to Soundbar to get Dolby Atmos, as long your soundbar support ARC.

I did not connect to sound bar and Dolby Atmos still detect and active.

It does support Arc but I was following's Apple's recommendation hence I connected to the sound bar first.

I am using LG TV and LG Soundbar, previously I also connect like that but then I notice it is slighly darker than direct connection and more signal lost issue.
So now I connecting directly to TV and Soundbar to TV ARC HDMI port.

So far so good, working perfectly, no lip sync issue, much brighter and never face signal lost issue anymore. Dolby Atmos also working as it suppose.

Most televisions don’t support Dolby Atmos pass-through to sound bars and receivers - I believe this is the reason why Apple suggest direct connect to soundbar.
My LG TV support Dolby Atmos and I believe support pass-through as I can direct connect to TV instead of Soundbar.

Previously I was using Panasonic TV which don't have Dolby Atmos support and this way of connection is not working for Dolby Atmos.

Hi Aptv members,

I need your help. This is my 1st apple TV4k. After connect to my 4K TV and with Denon AV receiver, I have an issues. Dolby atnos not working in netflix. HDR and atmos content only appear as HD and 5.1 in netflix. Previously, I only use netflix apps in windows 10. Everything work fine. I also bought a new HDMI cable which is a 8k cable.

I notice, 4k hdr and atmos is the main issue. Some title only appear as Ultra HD 4K but not HDR. Signal from APTV to tv already 2160p 60hz HDR.

First did you Devon AV and TV support HDR?
Second did you turn on Match content?

3rd Apple TV 4K never support Dolby Atmos in TrueHD track. Only streaming service DD+ track in Dolby Atmos is support.

Yes my Denon receiver support HDR and setting match content turned ON. I'm now understand about limitation of Atmos in true HD. However, netflix should allow me to enjoy HDR and Atmos. I did try to play a content from apple tv+ and my receiver successfully deliver the atmos audio anf HDR work fine.

Additional info, I'm on Premium netflix plan.

If your AppleTV+ can deliver HDR and Atmos, then no issue.

Not all shows in Neftlix support HDR and Atmos. Normally only Netflix original show support it and not all is support it.
Those not Netflix original show is 99% not support HDR and Atmos, and basically only FullHD. This is worldwide same.

Take for example below screenshot.

Only following film was present in 4K HDR
- Love Death + Robots
- okja
- Mitchells vs the Machines

The rest is not support 4K HDR.
