need 2 ask u guys, if watching TV show like NTV7,RTM possible in LCD TV ah? since its widescreen, and high resolution, dun thnk TV broadcast HD stufff.. so pic will be very blur? and how is d ration.. 4:3 n 16:9...black box on left n right?
*
Of course can watch NTV, RTM on widescreen...nowadays, more and more adventisements, movies are in widescreen format...

For the format, actually got 3 aspect...

1.4:3 with sidebars
2.Just
3.16:9

For TV just use the 'Just'. The picture dun look so pulled as 16:9. believe me, you'll get use to it.

Since I'm using plasma, it is not recommended to watch 4:3 aspects with sidebars for the first 1000 hours to avoid image retention. If still insist to watch 4:3 aspect with sidebars, most plasma units can adjust the sidebar to other colors than black.

Im looking for a new 42" preferably 100Hz LCD TV with 1080p with a budget around rm6000-rm7000. Can recommend me which brand to buy?
So far many salesman reccomend me the Philips PHP7432 model, but i prefer the more trusted brand like Toshiba so what do you guys think?
*
boss do u know the full HD LCD without 100hz is already budget at 5-8k depeding on the brand - if u can find one, branded, pls share with us, the last time i heard from my fren got his sony 42 100hz bravia (cant remember which series) from factory sales last month already rm 9999

u might try to get plasma 42" hd ready with 1080 upscaling at your budget price since it has no problem with time response.....

philip indeed at around 5k++ and toshi last week i saw in roadshow around rm6k by HSL in mid valley....but i wont recommmend the philip full hd as its colour is too glaring (try to notice it's white screen, gosh i see torch light), toshi will be better than philip if u compare both non-100hz full hd models....

bought Yamaha home theatre set-receiver speaker-sub from em in 2004. the cheapest price in town at that time. (yah i know coz survey all shops available in klang valley) biggrin.gif

they got the cheapest price(well at least for my needs the 32"). good warranty -extended, plus tons of varietiess to chose for.
i looked at yer sales. only the tosh 32" look attractive to me.

cheers  smile.gif

JJ price is never cheapest. Go and visit Legend at SS2. See the difference, especially when you pay in cash. I grab my 32" Toshiba 3500 at RM2100, Samsung R8 32" RM2400 and Philips HDMI player for RM325. All virgin factory sealed unit.

it is true that the legend at ss2 is chaep but it ll be hard to compare when u purchased from either :

1 )JJ price will not be cheaper until JJ roadshow or JJ member day with vocuher rebate/direct rebate + discount + jusco point (for household reason le) with addiational warrenty, plus u can swap for 12 months installment

2 ) best denki roadshow or promotion with 5 year warranty + every rm 1000 direct rebate rm 100 ( if rm 10k discount rm 1k ) with 12 months installment ( the last i saw was at time square on last week good for some certain package for lcd/plasma but not applied to all brand as legend has their own margin and market cost on certain brands which they can throw out the price.....)

A panny 42" pv70 plasma offered by legend at above rm 4700+ at cash price which u can get it at bkt tinggi jusco roadshow last 2 week at rm 4749 with 2 years warranty at 12 month installments.....and if u mention JJ member day, 2 years warrenty for rm 4999 and simply throw any item at rm1 u can get jusco cash voucher at rm 500 + points to grab or if the panny sale person in good mood, u might get a free pana hdmi cable....sometimes depending on the branded sales in charge person's mood, price might be gonna cheaper like i hav seen 30% discount for hitachi plasma with 5 year warranty + voucher rebate rm 10 for every rm100 at J day in Jusco Equine park back to some time ago......

so do more window shopping first, i see some come back customer who did some survey in legend or one of the cheapest pana shop at sg way (cant remember the name), of course comparing with legend u can get it at anytime but come on, nothing comes easy when it is cheap, u need to hunt for it.....

what i can say is there are privileges for roadshow/events organized by any authorized dealer comparing to drop in outlet visitor....

and speaking of virgin factory sealed unit , have you seen some outlets (dont feel wan to name them) opened their display unit from the bottom of the box? This can make the "box" still look virgin factory sealed and thus selling off their display unit as virgin 2, alot customer do not reliaze/aware of this thing and some do not bother to check the seal on bottom and sometime it might scrapped off..... brows.gif

1080p is definately the way to go and the 37" LCD is the minimum spec that supports the 1080p at the moment. Personally we can't tell you the right size of the display to choose but generally your viewing distance should be around 3 times the height the LCD. For example, if the height of the LCD is 3feet, then the viewing distance should be 9 feet away from the LCD.

If you're tired of the salesman's bullshit, just beware of the 1366 x 768 resolution deathtrap. It's not HD standard although most salesman tell you that "HD ready is 1 megapixel and Full HD is 2 megapixel" which is true. Because people know that HD is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i/p(1920x1080). The other known specs are 480p(NTSC) annd 576p(PAL) which is your regular TV resolution. So how can 1366 x 768 be a standard resolution? Obviously there is some video scaling happening and not all 32" sets do scaling well. Some say LG and Bravia models do well but you will need to shop around more and get a feel of it.

One thing though is that when you look around these shops, most will use an upscale DVD player (of sorts in simple terms) as demo but again, that's not a true depiction of how HD really looks like. Also, your friendly salesman will tell you that HD is a "future investment" side stepping the issue of 1366x768 resolution. So 1080p thumbup.gif

Then there is also the issue about HDMI version. Do get version 1.2/1.3/1.3a if you want to hook up to a computer.

You can read a bit more about this topic here http://hd1080i.blogspot.com/2006/12/1080i-...n-problems.html Easy read but slightly technical.

I know this sounds a wee bit technical but blame this on the industry who are so willing to roll-out HD without getting certain specs right. Hope this helps you out biggrin.gif

I don't know the height of the panel but if my viewing distance is 10.5 feet, can I take in a 46" LCD?

I am considering the Sharp LC46A83M

Adrian, did you say your price is RM15K?

A new model from Sharp is being released later this month but Sharp says this new one does not have 100Hz. Isn't that going backwards in technology?

are you sure it's true? "HD ready" means it can accept 1080i or 720p signal, doesn't mean it's any megapixel native resolution panel, it could just be WVGA 854x480 wide-SD panel can still be legit to call it HD ready..

Adrian is absolutely right.I've done research for months before finally bought from Legend, lcd tv, fridge, air cond, and pioneer HT. they give the best price, best service, best terms and best of all, the customer service. JJ or other huge electronics store can't even come close.in the end is how u negotiate...
FYI, i save up to RM2.3k buying from Legend compared to the price other electronics quote me.
