Does xiaomi still have ads in their phone?

The ads are there but can be turned off. Granted MIUI isn’t as clean as Oxygen OS for sure, but MIUI 12 is a huge improvement over previous reiterations of MIUI. I tried both Poco F2 Pro on MIUI 11 and Mi 10 on MIUI 12 last year and the difference is stark. Still had to manually remove the bloatware but overall the experience was good.

Apart from Samsung and iphone,

Huawei - mate 30 Pro, mate 40 Pro, p30 Pro, P40 pro
Oppo Find x2 pro
Oneplus 8 pro
Sony - Xperia 1, 5, 10

All these phones mentioned sells above RM2999, some below. Chill, mi 11 is good. But I'm just having abit of fun because they are obviously leaving the op certification to the ultra model, which is slightly disappointing (similar to every other manufacturers this year)

thanks for sharing this info.

my bad for my negative tone, didnt have any xiaomi before, not planning getting mi11 either.

huawei, its dead.
oppo , come on.
oneplus, too niche for normal buyers.
sony, even oneplus is selling more phones than sony.

so ip68 is belongs to flagship samsung and iphone.

but you are right, ip68 is really cool, i cant imagine using a phone without it.

i can wash my phone anytime under the water tap. or using a phone in a shower. laugh.gif

Remind me not to buy a used phone from you bro, hahaha..

For me personally, I think it’s rather disingenuous from manufacturers to have IP68 rating on their phones and yet explicitly state that water damage is not covered by warranty hence I end up every bit as careful with my Samsungs and iPhones as I am with my non-IP certified phones. So not having IP certification is alright for me, as long as the price is fair, and Xiaomi has that in spades.

Ditto, my sister over confident with the IP rating on her Samsung and wash the phone regularly. One time some water sipped in and KEK the display IC got burnt. Another time is her Note9, the charging port also detecting water resistance issue, luckily the inside is still fine.

Nowadays, I tell her to use alcohol spray or wipe instead. At least alcohol isn’t as conductive as water.

My friend who purchased a new Pro Max 12 during launch day to replace his XS Max actually went and wash his XS Max under the tape with soap and water. Guess what? The display died after that and he sent it back to MacCity for repairs. He was quoted Rm2k for a replacement unit as his display was water damaged. The phone is a paper weight right now. laugh.gif
TBH I have washed my XS Max quite a few times and it's still running fine. Most probably the waterproof membrane gave up after time. So I'll make sure not to wash it anymore after this incident.

No problem with that. But these manufacturers are getting on my nerve, turning yesteryear's flagships into midranger and only focus on the ultra model. Mi 11 is more of a flagship than the others but they never forget to leave out a couple of flagship features.

Last year when oneplus include IP certification for oneplus 8 Pro, many thought that was one of the features that allows oneplus to position the 8 Pro as a flagship, that's my point.

Anyway, the oppo Find x2 Pro is a real flagship (bar the lack of wireless charging). I have time with the device and it is easily among the top 5 android phones last year. Oppo as a whole doesn't impress me, but the x2 Pro was a different story.

Hahaha, will la bro, I will try the Nord before I get the Mi 11... waiting for the same quantum of discount that I got for my Mi 10 previously... so probably 6 months down the road or so...

But to be honest, there's no incentive to try the Nord - price still stubbornly high and no Android 11 still...

ip rating is just a number. with ip rating , it does not guarantee you can wash or submerge the phone under water of 1m for 30 minutes. phones with ip rating is much higher in price it only due to they need to do a water seal test for each unit before packing, this takes up production cost and time and need to set up a water test production arm, and also need to pay licence for using ip rating. When the phone pass the test, doesnt mean that it will be confirm water resistant, that y the phone manufacturer will not warranty for water damages. water dameges could still happen even if you just run your phone under the tap for 5 seconds.

The cost of doing ip rating will make the phone more by usd 25-35, which is a lot if you compare with the whole cost of manufacturing the phone.

For some phones basically they did the same thing as the phone with ip rating, with rubber sealant at places, but they decided not to spend on doing a production line just to do the water test and which will make the phone cost goes up significantly. This phone can be also at ip 68 rating, but they choose not to do the test because of cost. the only downside is that they cant market their phone as ip 68.

My 7 year-old Acer laptop is still running fine with 4GB RAM.

iPhone 12 only has 4GB RAM.

I really don't understand why Android need such large RAM to run smoothly.

Higher ram usually is more apps running at the same time. Xiaomi is known to have bad ram management. But then again you usually don't switch between a lot of apps

My 7 year-old Acer laptop is still running fine with 4GB RAM.

iPhone 12 only has 4GB RAM.

I really don't understand why Android need such large RAM to run smoothly.

QUOTE(brian81st @ Feb 26 2021, 05:50 PM)
ip rating is just a number. with ip rating , it does not guarantee you can wash or submerge the phone under water of 1m for 30 minutes. phones with ip rating is much higher in price it only due to they need to do a water seal test for each unit before packing, this takes up production cost and time and need to set up a water test production arm, and also need to pay licence for using ip rating.

*
Yes... you have a point there. But since many buyers are paying top dollar for flagship phones, they would demand to have IP Rating. It's a measure to make phone manufacturers promise what is on their phones rather than blindly claiming for it. nod.gif

Its between the need to have and want to have. Again when I pay top dollar for a flagship phone, I want everything the best on it regardless of whether I may need it or not. If not I would have just gotten a budget/cheap phone instead. tongue.gif

As long as Huawei remains without GMS, it’s hard seeing how the phone will appeal to the masses outside of China. There are workarounds, of course, but it’s still not for everyone.

Around RM3K inclusive shipping from a seller on Shopee. Ordered before CNY and got it a few days after CNY, so in total, about 1 week of waiting.

So far using the phone feels quite good. Coming from OnePlus 8 Pro with the curved screen and much lighter and thinner vs the iQoo.

I've seen the issues with the overheating on both Mi 11 and iQoo 7 when they were running the benchmarks but so far in my use, asides from the day 1 when I first started to charge it from < 50% where the phone felt really hot during charging.

But thereafter I noticed it isn't that hot as before [maybe gotten used to it].

That 15min charge time really crazy though. I can complete charging my phone from <20% to fully charged in the time it takes for me to take a shower. laugh.gif

Hi, welcome on board!

Xiaomi phones have a reputation for being great value for money in terms of price to hardware specs and performance, however the software overlay is not everyone's cup of tea. It has plenty of unnecessary apps that you don't need and can't remove without extra effort, some of the stock apps have annoying advertisements and once a while you'll encounter a bug or two here and there. Since you currently use a Pixel, I'm guessing the OnePlus' cleaner and lighter user interface will be more around your wheelhouse, but OnePlus phones don't offer the same value for money proposition that they used to. Best wait and see since the launch of the OnePlus 9 is imminent. If anything, you can get the older OnePlus 8 Pro at a discounted price once the new one launches.

Thanks for the reply. I am more used to the Pixel with no extra crap for sure. I can't believe Xiaomi puts ads in the interface? That is crazy. Do you have to root the phone to strip out all the extra UI junk?

Xiaomi is more suitable for those which are geeky and know what’s happening to their phones.

As Xiaomi tends to mess up their software updates (buggy) from time to time, if you’re not a tech savvy enough, it might leave some bitter taste in the user experience to you.

As for ads in UI, actually they didn’t done it so. They put ads in their stock apps like Browser, Cleaner, file manager and etc. Most of them can be disable once and for all in respective settings, by disabling the “recommendations”. Though the stock browser did pushed some Xiaomi new launching ads to me recently, there by I’m suggesting don’t use the stock apps whenever possible.

No, there’s no ad in the interface but just on the stock apps, like file manager, cleaner, etc. And no, there’s no need to root your phone in order to remove the ads or unwanted apps. Plenty of tutorials on YouTube out there.

Actually I'm only using the iQoo7 now as daily driver since CNY. The Mi10T Pro is a spare and cos I wanted to try out the MIUI12's clone mode on the camera.

I was using the 1+ since May20, which itself was an upgrade from the Huawei Mate 20 Pro I was using 2 years ago.

Actually I'm only using the iQoo7 now as daily driver since CNY. The Mi10T Pro is a spare and cos I wanted to try out the MIUI12's clone mode on the camera.

I was using the 1+ since May20, which itself was an upgrade from the Huawei Mate 20 Pro I was using 2 years ago.

what's your verdict on the 10t pro? am thinking of getting it instead of the m11 tbh

It was either this or the Mi 10 Ultra but the pricing of the 10T Pro for 1,999 was too good to resist.

Obviously, getting the global Mi 11 should be an even better option vs the 10T Pro bro. Asides from adding 1K to the price, similar camera [108 MP?] but faster chipset and movie magic, if you're into that kind of things.

As for the overheating, if you're not an avid gamer etc, shouldn't be an issue.

Some people say might as well wait for Mi 11 Pro etc, but if you're in the market to get a phone NOW, then probably consider checking out the upcoming Redmi Note 10 Pro also... Probably not a good comparison cos one is Flagship vs Mid Range but heck, the specs on the Redmi Note 10 is insane!

I'm also looking at the upcoming K40 Pro... biggrin.gif

Not really, Poco F2 was Redmi K30.

Basically Xiaomi don’t launch their Redmi K-series outside of China, most of the time Poco series take charge for global market under the same phone models.

Thanks for the reply. I am more used to the Pixel with no extra crap for sure. I can't believe Xiaomi puts ads in the interface? That is crazy. Do you have to root the phone to strip out all the extra UI junk?

Any idea when the new OnePlus comes out????

And yes you're right. Moving from OnePlus 8 Pro to iQoo took some getting used too and I kinda miss that slim form factor.

I might decide to sell my OnePlus 8 Pro eventually though. sweat.gif

ROG rarely prioritise their camera performance so I wouldn’t bet my life savings on that biggrin.gif

The flagship phones cycle usually starts send this time so yeah, it’s interesting to see what’s coming up. This year Samsung got a head start on everyone with their S21 series.

Indeed phone upgrade year.

I'm planning to upgrade from Pocophone F1 with few undecided targets yet. Initially aim for Mi 10T Pro but IPS screen is the only let me down despite good pricing. I'm looking for phones that are smooth, great camera and display as well as min storage 256gb.

My target list;
1. Xiaomi Mi 11 - 256gb
2. Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro - 256gb
3. Huawei P40 Pro - 256gb

My target probably
-RoG 5

-Mi 11 pro

My must have is 256gb + super amoled + performance for gaming. Camera just need to be great but no need to be the best

Similar here, but my priority is a bit different.
128gb is enough for me, i want super amoled + high refresh rate and gaming performance.
For me, anything higher or equal to sd 865 is enough for me.
(aim for gaming and entertainment device, main daily driver i use iphone)

Gamers don't need good camera. As long as the camera can scan mysejahtera, it is a good camera.. rclxm9.gif

Sorry, a little bit confusing here. the Mi 11 currently is not Super Amoled? I'm tired of waiting lol laugh.gif

Initially I placed order for Mi 10T, cancel it. Then look at P40 Pro and finally go to this Mi 11. Recently looking at OnePlus 9 and K40 Pro. Like never ending. bye.gif

It's a never ending cycle mega_shok.gif

Last year waiting to buy Poco F2, then considering S20FE since got SD865 . After that heard 2021 new 5nm chip should be better. S21 over budget and felt not worth it since exynos still not that great for gaming.

Mi 11 it's only Amoled if not mistaken . Budget is around 3.5k -4k max. That's why probably going for Mi 11 pro / Poco F3 la. Wait oneplus see how

*edit*

probably gonna order the RoG 5 pro . looks damn good deal wei

On a different note, anyone able to find iMak Crystal Hard Case for Mi 11 yet?
Don't like soft silicone case, don't like case with bumpers or airbags

Always preferred iMak Crystal Hard Case over any other cases
It's a hard case, not too thick, no colors & no bumps anywhere

Hoping to get one before my phone arrives. If not, have to wait until the case is available for purchase before I can start using the phone sweat.gif

Mi 11 Pro will allegedly have the same secondary screen at the back as the Mi 11 Ultra. I hope it's practical enough for the rear cameras to be used for selfies smile.gif

Just now use Mi 11 Malaysia set played Asphalt 9 at 60fps for 45 min. Screen set at 1440p, 120hz refresh rate. After 20 minutes temperature already reached 42 celcius. But after 45 min the temperature between 42 to 43.4 celcius.
I was in a room without air cond. Only a small fan aiming towards me to keep me cool. Hot at hands? No. Warm? Yes. Of course. But other phones I used also similar feeling. The overheating claims are over exaggerated. If wanna see gaming test do let me know.
My whole point is....No overheating la tongue.gif

the quota for mi air purifier is much more generous, and if buy from lazada can buy with installment, that's why i choose to buy from lzd.

this phone get hot pretty easily

10% battery gone in half an hour

battery consumption is crazy, i just browsing app/chrome, no play game

end up i set lower resolution and 60 fps to save battery

that the bad side of 120 hz, tempted to on but draining. Switch on the battery saver will limit the refresh rate to 60hz , could prolong the battery life.

Supermoon mode. Is set by default 5x zoom. Just tap focus on moon. If you zoom it more its digital n bad. Just take the shot and crop. This is sample after crop using 5x supermoon mode. Still far from p30pro or p40pro AI moon shots

Preinstalled screen protector is smooth n great, not marked by my nails after gaming like cheap hydrogels do.

Phone is light n thin for a flagship. Supports maxis volte. It appears this morning 12 hours after use. Maybe maxis just added support for mi11 or deployed in kajang

Top stereo speakers also emits sounds to the dedicated speaker grill and the earpiece. I think it is the same chamber. Unsure if someone call me surrounding people can hear too

In the AI image engine. I didnt turn on super resolution coz i prefer MEMC to boost up video frame rates.. all other i turn on. By default all this AI image engine settings are OFF by default. Close to OPPO 01 Ultra Vision Engine (oppo can boost resolution, hdr n fps at the same time)

My mi 10T turn on 144hz all the way , play wang zhe rong yao 2 games around 30++min from 99% (i max out all graphic setting) drop to 92% that really impressive , and m i10T with 144hz easily last 1 day without need charge plus hour of gaming

Still deciding between this and a S21+. Saw that S21+ has a camera issue (lag up to 5s or more), so leaning towards the Mi11. Knowing Malaysian business practices, we'll have no recourse if we get a lemon.

Just wondering does Samsung having the same battery issues? Also, easily get slow after 2 years of usage? I've been Samsung fan since S1 and Note1 till 4-Series. But decided to avoid it after that due to battery and lagging issues.

I thought all phones will have that issue? I know my Nexus 6p became almost unusable after 1 year due to failing battery. After changing it, lasted another 6 months. My Mi8 is now showing signs of it after 2.5 years.

I think this is due to the battery type they used , all note series even the latest note 20 used li-ion, li-po could be better (samsung start using from s20 series and s21 too) , my mate 20 pro li-po 2 n half years usage , 4200 mah 78% left now, no sudden shut down and it's consistently in fast charge . Ill pick Li-po phone anytime any day.

I'm surprised that this thread never go beyond 50 pages.. considering Mi 11 is a flagship model after all.. I guess forum is only for old timers to use it..

Nonetheless, I got myself Mi 11 to replace my Mi 8. Got myself the air purifier as well as the AIoT Premium Pack too (I'm not a dealer tongue.gif).

I can only compare with my previous Mi 8. Here is my simple review.

Battery: 3200 vs 4600
I guess the battery draining while playing game for both almost the same. After 100% charged, normal browsing and checking msg drop 1-2% only while doing my business in the toilet. For normal use, i guess Mi 11 can last whole day if you dont game

Sound: Harman Kardon
Louder than Mi 8 for sure and it got surround feel. The only minor issue is you will feel the vibration behind the phone when the sound is playing. Probably it is ok if you dont hold the phone.

Speaker for listening: Somehow the speaker is not place at the regular place like above the screen. Just need to get used to it.

Fingerprint on-screen scanner: Unlike Mi 8, you need to aim your finger on the screen to unlock the phone. Unlike Mi 8, you can actually feel the groove to scan your finger. Just need to get used to it.

120hz vs 60hz: not yet try 120hz..

Overheating: Warm is correct word.

I guess that is all about it first.. too early to complaint.. lol

I think the appetite for a flagship Mi phone is somewhat dampened by the fact that they are releasing so many value-for-money mid-rangers at less than half the price of their flagship phones. If you’re just a casual user in the market now for a Xiaomi, there’s the Redmi Note 10 Pro, Poco F3 and the Poco X3 Pro (if you don’t mind an LCD display) as very viable alternatives to the Mi 11 - and at much cheaper prices.

I used to own a Redmi Note 5 Plus and a Redmi Note 7, they’ve definitely made huge strides for the Redmi Note 10 Plus. Ordered mine from Lazada but still yet to receive it. It must be selling like hot cakes, haha..

Oh, and another thing, I bought my Mi 10 late last year at RM1,999 (plus another 10% coins cash back on Shopee) so another reason why many are holding back on the Mi 11 could be they are waiting once again for the steep discounts - like me smile.gif

My whole point is....No overheating la tongue.gif

the overheating for high graphic games only. like genshin, black desert, etc. u can try those games, i think the temperature can raise up till 50degree or more

Small items dropped on the screen protector, sure
But I'm more afraid if I accidentally dropped the phone on a hard surface, that original thin screen protector isn't gonna do anything sweat.gif

Guys, I am eyeing the Mi 11 Pro or Ultra. First time looking at Xiaomi, given the impressive specs, so not too sure about its performance. Could someone kindly advise how’s the service signal/reception. And any problems when using GPS for route seeking? TQ.

Mind to share your source for Mi 11 Pro?? Omg, i have been holding back and waiting for Pro, and now you tell me is not available globally?

Saw a post by another msian news page, saying that xiaomi malaysia might just bring in the 11 ultra instead of the pro to keep the 11 series streamlined here. So it will just be the 11 lite -> 11 -> 11 ultra. Though it's not confirmed yet, they only just announced the 4g version of the 11 lite, priced at 1199. They might change their mind and still bring in the 11 pro

That's a big blow.

Mi 11 is good, but without telephoto camera which is a deal breaker.
Anyway, Mi 11 Ultra camera is strong.
https://www.soyacincau.com/2021/03/29/xiaom...ore-143-points/

Not sure what's the price in Malaysia, it seems 8+256 is around CNY 5,999 (about RM3,788).

Also do remember Malaysia is getting the 4G version with Snapdragon 732G, so the Mi 11 Lite is basically a Redmi Note 10 Pro with cleaner and much lighter design, better main camera, same shitty ultra wide and telemacro as the Redmi Note 10 Pro, worse battery and worse screen. And a lot of freebies.

I think the 10 pro has better main camera than the 11 lite, Samsung HM2 108mp (which received really good reviews) vs 64mp samsung GW1/IMX 682/686 on the 11 lite

Looks like Mi11 Lite 4G and 11 Ultra will be available in Malaysia soon.
Maybe Pro version will be excluded in China this time.

No need to sell off, because besides the camera, the Poco F3 wins on processor, screen and battery life, plus the F3 has 5G while the Mi 11 Lite(Malaysia version) is using Snapdragon 732G with 4G only

Try change the language to US english..

OR

check the GBoard setting --> Language.. Make sure you choose QWERTY as your setting and not the others...

Yeah, seems like they want to push the highest variant/108mp of the k40 series for the global market. While the lowest variant with 48mp & sd 870 is rebranded to the poco f3. Dont know if there will even be the middle spec (64mp) variant for global market

i thought they will be Poco f3 pro which is same spec as poco f3 but with snapdragon 888

but since snapdragon 888 is so unstable i think 870 stil a good choice

Really liking how natural the colours are and not over-processed.

RM4.7k for 8+256 cry.gif
At that price, might as well buy iPhone 12 Pro Max

Highly doubt Xiaomi Malaysia would actually sell the 11 Ultra above RM3.8K

Yes i know, but this is price in China, globally should be higher, no?
I'm not sure as i never look at Xiaomi or any Chinese phone previously. But this time i'm serious and i want to get away from Samsung.

Malaysia & China price not much difference for Xiaomi phones, at most only RM100 ~ RM300 higher
For example, the Mi 11 8GB/128GB is sold at ¥3999 (RM2525) in China. Whereas in Malaysia, the same model is sold at RM2799

Guys, can share which tempered glass you're using on your Mi 11?
Bought one from Shopee but the touchscreen felt weird and the fingerprint scanner is less sensitive now, always cannot detect my fingerprint
*
I also got a similar issue then I get a custom cut screen protector that cost me around RM25. now working without any issue to detect my fingerprint. now just have some issue when on call screen suddenly turn on and this causes an issue with the screen heating up and accidentally press mute or hold while calling. other than that this phone works fine.

Redmi Note 10 pro wins overall unless you want a bit smaller, lighter, thinner phone.

Same chipset (if you are comparing it with the 4G version of the Mi 11 lite): SD 732G
Better camera: 108MP HM2 vs 64MP GW3
Better display: 120hz AMOLED vs 90hz AMOLED
Bigger battery: 5020 mAh vs 4250 mAh
Has headphone jack
For display size depends on which you prefer, bigger display 6.67 inch on the RN10Pro or smaller 6.55 inch on the 11 lite

The 11 lite is thinner and lighter

157g vs 193g
8.1 mm vs 6.1 mm

I wonder if the RM45 Nillkin tempered glass would fix this issue
That's quite a high price for a tempered glass when the no-brand ones cost less than RM10

I guess the on call screen on could be MIUI issue. You can try swiping up, left or right to minimize the screen during call.
Then the screen should remain off during call.
For me, I am using Mi10 with MIUI 12.2.7 got such issue.

Actually phone camera is all about the same in market , its depend which brand color post processing u like most

Nowaday its not about camera , its all about the Post Processing software , let say a phone have better AI , after u take the picture it will automatically help u edit the photo become nicer , add some contrast , saturation, pull the highlight shadow, hence ur picture from phone will impress u as it take better photo than ur real eyes

But for this 3 phone i would say that xiaomi ultra 11 should be a winner since it use the GN2 sensor which as large as the cmos sensor we found on dslr , so talk about detail , dynamic range , depth of field it confirm win hand down , so at the end we need to see how is xiaomi software engineering to update more post processing to make their photo look even great , because human dont like natural picture anymore , they hope the phone can automatically help them to take good photo , lol

Yup, the shortage is real.

I can see so many haters commenting on the price of this product but they most likely do not know what this thing is capable of.

Congrats on your purchase btw. I checked on Lazada and Shopee just now, no guaranteed free gifts, I'll probably hold on for now. Even Mi11 is giving a free watch...

The rear display can only be used for photo mode and not for video/pro mode. I think this should be easily fixable via software update.

And the other concern is the frequency of software updates sad.gif

One major limitation of Xiaomi phones are they don't bother to give USB3.0 and above.

Those big RAMs only sound practical when you go for desktop mode and running extra big programs on both desktop mode and on your phone.

Without desktop mode, 8GB is more than sufficient for most people.

Anyone getting the 11 Ultra?

That 4,299 price does seem attractive.

Although places like Fastech are selling at 4.5k onwards for the 12+256 spec as well.

Yep battery not as good as others flagship
After disable all the features, FHD+ with 60hz still 🔋 drain?

Not sure if this is because of SD888, reviews of other SD888 phones (OP9P, OPFX3P, Mi11) the battery result is not as good as last year flagship though and so far not much complains about it in other forums

Waiting for Mi 11U review especially on the battery, been eyeing this phone, wanted to pre-order but out of stock sweat.gif

This gps lost connection issue mainly with waze. Gmaps ok. At least with my poco f1 and redmi note 7

Its becoz when call masuk, the line will change from lte to 2G. So sudden connection lost, gps signal lost.

If use volte no connection drop.

I tried a few Xiaomi phones and I would say my last two, Mi 10 and Poco X3 NFC did not have much issues with GPS. The issue was pretty bad with my older Redmi Note 5 Plus and Redmi Note 7 back in the day but I thought they’ve more or less fixed it already.

Anyways, do share some lowlight photos from your 11 Ultra biggrin.gif

Hubba hubba.

That pricing though...

Just placed order for the 11U in Ceramic White via Fastech. I noticed his prices kept dropping [example iQoo 7 was around 2,999 when I first bought it from another seller during CNY but now he's selling it for 2.6K...]

Finally taking the plunge.

Managed to sell off the RN10Pro and 10TPro to partially fund the 11U.

Yea man. Just saw his post. wub.gif

The marble pricing still a bit of a stretch for me.

Kinda surprised the 12/512 pricing is pretty good when I saw his latest price list... and I was hooked.

Almost similar to the 4,299 pricing upon launch here for the 12/256 though...

DS+ MAX needs alot of effort to align (left and right) and press the bubble. All full glue tempered glass (non-uv type) are like that.

Mi 11 user can verify?

Xiaomi Mi 11 Got Complaints About Overheating Motherboard

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun recently received complaints that the Wi-Fi module was burned out. In several Weibo comments for Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was informed about the quality problems of Mi 11 and the motherboard burning out and WiFi module getting damaged due to excessive heat.

Earlier: Overheating and Display Damage reported in Apple Watch SE

In addition, Lei Jun posted a photo of Goubuli yesterday on Weibo: saying that he had a good meal today. However, most followers on his Weibo did not care about the blog post, but called Lei Jun to pay attention to the problem of Xiaomi Mi 11 burning the motherboard: Some users said, stop eating, when will the problem of Xiaomi Mi 11 burning the motherboard be solved? This was a harsh question by some users, however, Lei Jun has not yet responded to the questions asked by the users.

Users Complaining About Mi 11 Heat Problems To Xiaomi CEO
Xiaomi Mi 11 was launched on January 1 this year, and the sales volume has exceeded one million within the 21 days after the launch. The negative feedback from users of Xiaomi Mi 11 focused on poor battery life, high power consumption, and high heat. Some users even complained that “playing games for more than ten minutes makes the phone hot like hell“

China ROM, just downloaded Play Store after somehow the built in Mi Apps didn't allow me to update the Mi Mover app properly. Haha. First strike already. sweat.gif

Now 80% partway thru the migration. Shall see how it goes.

My iQoo7 is working fine as well in terms of most local apps and banking ones/MS Authenticator for work just that my location history doesn't work at all since I started using these China ROM phones.

I checked maxis website, currently maxis only support Mi 11 for VoLTE. Mi 11 Ultra is not supported by maxis yet.

I turn on the 'receive updates early' option in the update system, when i click 'download latest package', it seems downloading 'something'. I guess it could be MIUI 12.5

A short review of my white Mi 11 Ultra for 3 days so far:

1. Charging - Top up from 10 -100% within 40 minutes which is blazingly fast, and the phone only barely heat up during charging. Anyway, based on my observation on the power meter, 67W only achievable during flat - 30%, afterwards it capped at around 35W until end of charge. Accute Battery reported provisional capacity = 105% of 5000mAh, 5% bonus.
2. Camera - The highest praise feature of the phone. The quality is top notch if your reference is 'phone', but myself as a DSLR enthusiast, it still far off, haha, but nevermind. One biggest drawback that no reviewers had mentioned so far, there is a noticeable shutter lag, i just compare to my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, is like 0.5s kinda delay from press shutter -> photo taken. I have read 1+9 Pro having similar issue, but Mi 11 Ultra is quite obvious to me.
3. Sound - The stereo speaker loud and clear, tuned by Harmon Kardon, to me just a hype rather than any meaningful.
4. Battery life - Battery life is so so, it can last me 24 hours with 10% left, but that is without gaming at all (i'm not mobile gamer anyway), as expected the biggest consumer is the 120Hz screen itself. It drops around 3-4% overnight (6 hours) during sleep, suggesting the idle consumption is quite high due to unknown reason.
5. Thumb print sensor - Occasionally need longer time to unlock although already set 4 group of fingerprint, my Samsung S7E is slightly better in this regards.
6. Face recognition - faster than thumb print, however can't detect when wearing mask, and system not allow to set face recognition photo with mask.
7. MIUI 12 - Smooth and fast with some minor inconsistent, micro stuttering in some menu pages and apps. Being a long time Samsung owner, still need some time to get used with MIUI.
8. Front screen - Haven't tested HDR yet, just normal content. Display colour set to original with default colour temperature. The white balance/colour is very accurate by naked eye and better in this mode as compare to my calibrated monitor. Screen uniformity is excellent without any noticeable colour tint/spot. The edge is curve, but only very slightly compare to my S7E which your hand won't touch it due to thick bezel, so no worry on false touch when holding the phone, definitely no cons to me if compare to my 5 years experience on the S7E.
9. Rear screen - almost no use to me except rear camera selfie. Can be useful to display time and notification if your phone front screen facing down (more stable compare to facing up due to large camera bump).
10. Design - Weight slightly on heavy side, prefer matte chrome bezel rather than gloss bezel which could attract finger print, white ceramic back is immune to finger print. Overall grip is good.
9. Accessories inbox - Nothing except 67W charger + USB-C to 3.5mm converter included, means you still can use your old school audiophile headphone.

Let me know if you have anything would like to know further. nod.gif

Thanks for the review bro.

Just started using mine since Friday evening too. [China set 12/512]

The only thing I cannot install is Google Chrome - everything else works fine.

The battery drain on the 11U seems quite awful though vs my previous China ROM phone - iQoo 7.

And yup, the camera animation lag is very apparent although the pic has been taken and saved to Gallery. I think many reviewers did mention this like MKBHD and FrankieTech.

It's already Google ready if not mistaken - just need to install Google PlayStore.

After faffing about with the setup and migrated my stuffs over using Mi Mover, everything seems fine now, banking apps all working fine.

Only thing to note is for those used to have Location History/Timeline working on your phones, the China ROM phones unable to have this functionality.

There are few things you can turn off if you want to reduce the power drain during standby

- Raise to wake
- Show fingerprint icon when the screen is off

Both of them make use of gyro sensor polling during screen off which inevitably will increase the drain

Just wanted to point out for (2) on the "shutter lag", it's actually the animation lagging and not the camera shutter. Maybe you can reconfirm this smile.gif

You know what, almost a week got the phone, i don't feel the camera is that excellent not until i read this review. Finally i know how to maximise it.
I will usually buy a phone after read a review, but in this case, i just pre-order the 1st batch and i have no regret on that.

Surprisingly gsmarena rated good endurance for 11 Ultra battery life, which i never see in any review so far.
To me not overly bad, but i do expect it better than my S7E given its 5000mAh vs 3600mAh.

Honestly why you guys never book during the pre-order in Lazada and Shopee? I booked and got mine rather than play waiting game here.

Don't tell me it finished in few minutes. I booked mine in Shopee @ 12:00 midnight, 120units left, 6am i look at it, still remained 100+ units. No one interested IMO, because of the stingy free gift? i don't give a damn to be honest.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me I was still researching phones at that time, and the mi 11 ultra reviews for very early stage pre-released software reviews which were said to have some bugs and whatnots. Now that more reviews are out, especially by non-china specific models, I could make a more informed decision. Not everyone needs to be an early adopter. And local reviewers like LimReviews also released his review only middle of April which is past the pre-order date. So can't blame a guy for doing his due diligence before spending Rm4.3k on a phone. Theres always a risk being an early adopter anyway, for a phone at this price, I did not mind waiting a month after the pre-order to buy it. But am just surprised they didn't release it to the mass market yet.

Been using the 11U China ROM version for about 2 weeks now.

Just noticed something kinda amusing.

Been playing Candy Crush Soda every morning and my gawd, the lag when did some combos were really apparent. Game Turbo mode was on and I fiddled with the settings but same issue.

Then I switched on the refresh rate indicator to check, seems that it was changed to 60Hz when I was playing the game.

I didn't face that sort of animation lag on the iQoo 7 nor my previous 1+ 8 Pro though when I played the same game.

Not really a dealbreaker per se but just an observation to share.

Well, this is my 1st time to spend 4.3k on a phone, and 1st time buy from pre-order. I'm also a person who tends to wait for review before buy anything.

The main reason i do so this time:
1. I have watch quite alot of review from China youtuber, and i don't think the risk is high and most of the review is quite promising.
2. This is the biggest reason i go for it: unknown future supply due to global chip shortage crisis. It means either the stock is limited or the price is going to increase. I'm in that industry and i know how severe the crisis going on now, everything from cars, PC, mobipe phone, home appliances impacted.

So i won't be surprised it didn't release it to the mass market due to reason 2 above. The demand from China alone is overwhelming let alone any stock for global market.

I think gsmarena had mentioned this issue in the review

Anyway, how's the MIUI 12.5?

Being an EE that work on Li-ion battery management system, I would like to share my view on the 11 Ultra 67W charging.

After almost 2 weeks of usage and battery charging observation through wall plug power meter and accuBattery:

1. The 67W charging is depends on your battery temperature. The temp is obviously capped at 40'c and it will throttle to 45W or 32W charging when reach higher.
2. The 100% full charge voltage is 4.5V reported in AccuBattery which is ridiculously high based on Li-Ion technology. Often charging to 100% is guarantee going to shorten the lifespan very fast. The healthy full charge voltage shouldn't exceed 4 3V for the sake of lifespan which is at approximate 80-85% SoC and Xiaomi exploit the capacity to the max obviously.
3. The charging current is expected at 3 - 4C (4x of capacity) during initial charging which is very high, couple with high temperature (yes, 40'c charging at more than 1C is insane), this will be a killer to the battery lifespan

There is a reason why Xiaomi reduce the insane 120W charging from 10 ultra to 67W for 11 ultra, the wider speculation could be due to short lifespan of the battery and only Xiaomi know that. Try to see any established phone maker like Samsung, Apple why they don't deploy fast charging. Currently only those Chinese brand phone come with ultra fast charging like Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus.

What i practicing so far is charge until 85% max and will charge when only left 30%, always charging from 0-100% is going to reduce the lifespan drastically. Also i charge using my previous QC3.0 samsung charger which only capable of charging @ 14W or 3A max, it took 1 hour to charge from 30 - 85% while keeping the temp at 36'C which is acceptable to me. The 67W quick charge is reserved for urgent top up, otherwise i don need that speed at all.

Anyway u don't need to give a damn on this if you are not intended to keep a same phone for 4-5 years like me.

Thanks bro. Yea, I did read the article as well. Haven't tried other games yet but I know games like GrimValor was pretty much ace on the iQoo 7. I don't really game that much on the phone except for that daily Candy Crush fix so all those benchmark games like Genshin etc are pretty much things that I tend to read only but never gave much consideration about.

I'm more into the camera and the photo quality etc.

So far since using 12.5, I did notice some improvements in the battery life too. Not so bad as the first few days using it plus using the tips you'd shared earlier too.

Interesting observation bro.

I'm pretty much spoiled right now cos moving from the iQoo 7 which tops up the phone within 15mins - those first few days with the 67W charging on the Mi felt kinda sluggish.

I guess once you've tasted something like 120W, very hard to re-adjust back to the somewhat 'slower' speeds. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the battery tips too. I'm trying to at least keep the 11U for at least 2-3 years this time.

Yes, there is a reason why some major brand do not opt for such high charging current, there are not dumb. Depends on the design philosophy, u either design it charge blazingly fast but trade off the life span or vice versa. And there are supporters for both end and myself opt for long battery life other than speed.

Hmm, just got 12.5.4 over the weekend. Seems the China ROM phones are getting the updates rather quickly.

Saw some comments on Han's Tech Talk posts about 12.5.4 bringing some slight enhancements to the camera like reducing the shutter lag animation so I kepo to check the system updates and lo, the file was ready for download.

Will see if it really improves the camera features.

Yup, the camera shutter lag animation. coolkwc can confirm?

Hoping the update allows other camera modes to be used with the rear display (other than photo mode)

Fits perfectly and the glass is a lot harder than most tempered glass in the market

Mine is global set, so can't update yet.
What i can confirm is, the lag isn't happen in Pro mode. I yet to really test out the lag is just animation or what, what i felt is real lag.

Thanks for replying. It does have black border right? Does it eats into screen real estate or lands just nicely on actual black area of the screen?

Haha, now I know what hot phone feels like. For anyone who have Mi 11, try download Idle Mafia. This game will heat up your phone so fast that if you're not using any case, you don't want to touch it. Even while using case, you can feel the extensive heat & it'll drain your 100% battery in less than an hour.

Edit: forgot to mention that your phone will throttle down rapidly & will feel like 2012's Galaxy S3, LOL.

MIUI 12.5 is really yummy BTW.
