Great feedback tinkerbel. I've actually tried that before posting it up, thats why i was pretty much frustrated. I couldn't find the computers in the network. Pretty ackward ,but if thats the only way around it, no worries ill use terminal to transfer items :S

Just worried about the battery issue, last thing i want is my battery to be dead in 2 months because of "over" charging

Do unplug the battery while you use it at home/work. it saves the battery life smile.gif

Yup, my macbook will be at used at home mostly, unless i need to bring it out for my projects or assignment. But other than that, it'll mostly lie at home. So you reckon i should remove it eh?

Alrighty then..

Yes bro, since you utilize it mostly at home and that will be the best option. first i was told by my sister who previously worked for DDB, and i tried it out, seriously it really does protect your battery life, and recently i just got a free replacement battery for her smile.gif

That's great mate.
I was told that battery technology might have improved, but i aint wanna risk it. I'm just worried that the comp might be abit faulty if battery's removed and the source always comes from the main power supply.

Great

I always have the battery plugged in even with the main power supply. i rather not risk my work & data (or even the hdd) vs the slim chance of battery degrading. whats the point of having a battery & not use it anyway? And you never know when the main power could be interrupted, even more so with the Magsafe adaptor.

i agree with civic98.. you'll never know with the magsafe...

i prefere to leave it in as well..
allow the battery to trickle charge...

when u don't use it at all, it still discharges... better not risk anything.... sometimes might need it outside... dun wanna have a dead battery and no power point...

as long as u calibrate your battery once every few months, it will be fine...

All right, ill go research it up and see which one best fits.

Anyhow, there is something i notice, is that sometimes when i save files to the desktop, it doesn't show up in the desktop. But when i check using the terminal, the file exists. What could be the problem?

Click on any window in the Finder which is not currently in the front, and it should refresh files in all the windows.

You guys do know that the MacBook / MacBook Pro will scale back the processor speed if it's running on AC power with no battery plugged in? You might as well just leave the battery in there all the time, but unplug once in a while to allow the electrons to do a little moving.

I reckon that too, but i'm worried that this will shorten the battery life cycle. This issue has trifled me as my previous fujitsu notebook's battery could only last 4 month before it dysfunctioned. From a 2 hour duration, down to only 30 mins.

And i notice, the alignment for the battery cell will not be correct after you remove it.

Mine has a slight bump now, can't seem to align it perfectly

I tried print screen,a nd it usually shows in the desktop. But this time, i did what you recommended, yet it doesn't show up
Again i had to go through the terminal.

Seriously guys, just keep the damn battery in. Why go through all the trouble of removing it and putting it back all the frigging time just to save some charge cycles? If by the time the battery deteriorates to a point where you absolutely need to get a new one and you still haven't upgraded to a better machine, the battery is only 500 bucks a pop. It's well worth the money. Mind you the Magsafe adaptor disconnects easily.

And I just don't like to use my laptop knowing there's a hole underneath it. tongue.gif

Chill mate, not knowing what effect it does to your notebook, i just wanted to use my past experience with having a battery plugged in as a reference. I might say that technology is better now, thats why i just wanted to know for sure. And i dont think its just "some" charge cycles. Maybe prasys has some enlightenment in this issue?

Its something thats bothering me, very much...anyone else with this issue?

Oh, apparently those files appeared in the desktop only AFTER i restarted mac.
Again something i dont understand about the systems. Tried googling to no avail...

Just to be curious. i have come across this issue, i mean read it somewhere in the web. Some in the macrumors, engadget, they recommend taking it off. Well, i dont really know about the processor speed being rescale if there is a presence of a battery. but anyway, why should the processors being scaled if there isnt a battery inside? i thought the only time the processor speed is being scaled, or even the gpu thing is affected, is all because the energy setting is set to Better battery life or may be you set it that way?

and i also heard that charging your battery to half of the maximum capacity before you store it. This way, the battery charge will diminish slower. i think this has something to do with half life cycle? lol

in the article, read the IMPORTANT bit below..
answers all your questions whether to remove the battery or not...
oh, and MacBook batteries have a microprocessor inside to calculate remaining battery life.. it also handles trickle charging and everything related to the battery la.. its not that stupid... there's nothing wrong leaving it in with it plugged in....

That is why, we have to calibrate our battery once in a while.... as long as u calibrate it, it will be fine... not like normal notebooks.... say 2 hours plus max only... so far, my macbook has gone about 4 hours on one charge... tho mac claims it can go 6.... probably with brightness setting at minimum, no sound, no wifi and no HDD activity la...

jon: i dun seem to be experiencing any of that... could be one of your appearance settings maybe ?

shoguniphicus: all batteries have a specific discharging rate. the half life cycle basically is carbon-14 dating...
i dun think the amount of charge will affect the discharging rate... maybe u could experiment for us... let us know the results icon_rolleyes.gif
