I am planning to replace the hard disk in my Macbook with a higher capacity one.

Can anyone recommend a non-Apple place to do that ? I find the Apple store prices a bit expensive :-(

If you have recently done so, please share the brand and capacity of the hard disk you selected and whether you experience any heat issue after the replacement. (And the price if you don't mind)

Thanks.

It's pretty easy to do it yourself (on the iBook it was very difficult, but no problem with the MacBook).

I recommend Seagate drives, a little more expensive but much more reliable than that Western Digital crap.

Depending on the model, if you get a much higher-capacity drive you could increase the heat output of your MacBook.

All right, ill go research it up and see which one best fits.

Anyhow, there is something i notice, is that sometimes when i save files to the desktop, it doesn't show up in the desktop. But when i check using the terminal, the file exists. What could be the problem?

Click on any window in the Finder which is not currently in the front, and it should refresh files in all the windows.

I'm just enquiring this issue for my friend. He installed a bunch of program, that upon installation, most of them were locked. Now, he wants to delete those program, but some of you know that you cannot delete locked program. It is easy to delete one file, but when there are 300 locked files or so, it makes it so hard to unlock it one by one. Is there a general button to unlock a series of folder/files?

If you Get Info on a sufficiently large number of files at the same time (highlight them all and choose Get Info), then you get a single window where you can set things like Locked status on all of them at once.

I did it on 20 files, yet each one popped out single. So there were 20 get info files. I dont know your definition of sufficiently large number of files now

That's strange. On my computer it has to be more than 10 - if you select 10 files, you get 10 separate get info windows. If you select 11 files, you get one window. Using OSX 10.4.10.

Yea, it opens up in iPhoto again. I am rather curious whether i can it by itself (files) within the system itself.
Sure, just right-click the file, choose "Open with" and select any available application, maybe Preview? Or drag the icon on top of an application.

Just don't move the files in iPhoto's directory around, or it will get confused.

Other than games, there are programs that do the same thing as whatever you were using before. Normally better than the Windows counterparts.

You can install bootcamp for gaming if you want, though for me the joy of the Mac is that it's a great machine for getting work done productively; being a glorified video game console is more Windows' strength.
