QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Sep 8 2024, 12:34 AM) Unless you do thread heavy work, the extra Ecores are useless, the current 8 are enough to run Windows and any background stuff when gaming. Shop could just be trying to clear stock of 14gen with the crash in demand and also Lunarlake coming in a month or 2. Also it sometimes can happen that Intel itself will replace your 13gen with a current 14gen if they no longer produce them so you might get a free upgrade anyways. Thank you for that valuable info. That's the thing, I won't know if it's old stock or not. But then again, it's an upgrade. Not a bad offer from the shop, so to speak haha. I do stream sometimes and I'm running my system with 3 monitors (2 ultrawides and one main gaming monitor. I like the real-estate for my tasks and easier to multitask.) I'll let the shop know later. To speak frankly, I got lucky that the shop even decided to offer me this haha

QUOTE(Bulbasaurus Rex @ Sep 8 2024, 04:39 AM) I RMA'd both my 13700K and my MSI Z790 Carbon Wifi. CPU was showing symptoms of completely different errors that I've never seen before, and I've been building systems for years. Multiple BSOD's with different stop codes, ranging from memory erros to PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. It was frustrating and annoying as heck to troubleshoot. Since it's still within warranty, might as well claim it. I did ahead and went with an AMD system for the time being, and since then I have never experience weird issues other than the slow boot times which I got used to pretty quick. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones with the bad batch of 13th Gen Intel CPUs. this system do u OC before get this error frequently ?

But since you see the need for extra Ecores then yeah why not? Its the last of LGA1700 might as well get the last gen.

QUOTE(Bulbasaurus Rex @ Sep 8 2024, 04:34 AM) Thank you for your response! I may need to upgrade my cooling for it. Got a ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240, running with a Z790 Carbon Wifi from MSI. I'll let the shop know then. Seems like a reasonable offer honestly. And an upgrade for my system haha For 14700K you need at least 360 AIO or better 420 AIO. 240mm aint gonna cut it, CPU will still thermal throttle when you go full on.

Get Lian Li Galahad II 360 performance. You don't need to modify LGA 1700 mounting. Liquid Freezer II requires you to modify the mounting hardware. Check your PC case for 360mm support though. https://shopee.com.my/LIAN-LI-GALAHAD-II-TR...54-1773b0838054This post has been edited by TristanX: Sep 8 2024, 11:33 AM

I do agree, but from my experience with the 13700K, it peaks around 80c - 90c, which is probably not ideal but it's under stress during streaming + everything else I run in the background. Worked well for a year, then my CPU kicked the bucket sometime in June. I also have that Thermalright Socket mount thing, so it wouldn't bend the board and socket. Room temps around 24c in ambient, so it's not that bad. But yeah, I need a 360 AIO at some point.

Using a CM H500 atm. I saw Antec releasing a new case soon and it looked like just what I needed. Do you recommend the Liquid Freezer III by any chance? Saw the reviews and their okay with the price point. New mounting hardware, but I don't mind messing with it.

Thats what prolly killing it. Once you have brand new CPU, disable all mobo OC/Enhancement/etc settings and manually set the parameters. Its a chart topper performance but imho in Msia not cheapish either.

New mounting hardware, but I don't mind messing with it. Its actually III. Typo. Modifying mounting hardware could potentially void warranty. Just make sure you reinstall the original before sending it for warranty if anything happens. If you are fine with the drawbacks, go for it. Better than Galahad II according to Gamers Nexus. Unless noise isn't a problem, Galahad II is better. This post has been edited by TristanX: Sep 8 2024, 09:36 PM

Yeah, didn't find that out until way down the line. Bought the CPU in September 2023, combo with the motherboard. It was a decent deal back then. The ILM mechanism was easy to take out and put back in. Just need to be in the correct orientation before sending it for warranty haha. And the contact frame helped with the mounting of my cooler and CPU. I swear if Intel likes running at "stock" and keep pushing the voltages, it's a nightmare for the average users to see what's wrong with their system. Anyway, I've accepted the upgrade and will update the BIOS when it arrives.

Unless noise isn't a problem, Galahad II is better. Thanks! I really don't mind the noise honestly. My games are louder and wearing headphones helped. The contact frame was easy enough to install, re-installing the stock ILM was a bit tricky but nothing to worry about. Shop accepted the warranty claim ady, so passed their check ady. So a 360 AIO will fit my case, but it's going to be super tight. Especially for top mounting.

Anyway, I've accepted the upgrade and will update the BIOS when it arrives. Intel allowed mobo makers to go crazy with Z boards and Ksku CPU, its like CPU without brake limits and then given to mobos makers like car tuners without a budget cap. Intel is bad to have no locks, mobos are worse to have no limits.
