welcome...

ur meals suck !!
No breakfast, you can forget about lifting for the day.

And what kinda preworkout meal is that ??
Need more protein & carbs.

Your Post workout meal is terrible too.
What is milo fuze? It's oatmeal isn't it? Oats = Low GI.
Post workout, you want the nutrients to get absorbed as fast as possible.
Opt for High GI carbs. Like Rice for example.

Don't understand what i'm saying? Google for Glycemic Index.

Cheers.

You need to read the stickies. Yes it's long but it is all good infomation for YOUR OWN USE! I mean, look at your meals!

And..your poundage are pretty low. Try doing rippetoes for 3-5 months.

u need breakfast not becuz its important cuz its the 1st meal of the day or wat.

when u sleep u starve urself through out your sleep. the whole night and after u wake up without food your body is experiencing catabolism, which breaks down fat for energy, however it breaks down your muscle as well, u dont want that. so u eat good protein food like tuna and eggs for breakfast to reverse your catabolic state.

skipping breakfast also damages your brain. when u wake u r in a low blood sugar state, not eating anything will worsen it.

there are still lots of points how bad is skipping breakfast but i cant state it all down here. so breakfast is important, dont skip.

break 3 big meals to smaller portions of 5-6 meals a day. this will help u bulk ang grow muscle better. in order to maximize muscle growth potentials u have to fill your body with macro and micro nutritions all the time. so if u r working just buy some tune sandwich and eat as tea time. something light is better than nothing.

for your workouts u might wana do more compound weights as starters. like squat deadlift bench press bent over row and stuffs. and yes check the stickies. do the rippe toe 3x5. read it. its good for u

His postworkout is okay , Milo fuze is high GI carbs . Milo la overall.

Anyway , what I can recommend is why not trying to do full body workout ? body part split is usually for more advanced trainer but nowadays this is the hype for newbies to do it cos of those magazines.

Its cool to be here , do enjoy and pls don't gv a shit about what king hv said . icon_rolleyes.gif

Have a read on this , just the front line enough is u are too busy with work ?

Sorry if I sounded offending jus wanted to get the message across. Here's a general guide on what you should eat.

Breakfast = Oats, eggs, milk, honey, wholemeal bread. Most of the low-GI stuffs.

Lunch = Anything you can find at your chap fan store. Remember 40(carbs)/40(protein)/20(fat)

Pre-wo = Refer to this

Post-wo = Refer to this again

Dinner = 40/40/20 again.

pre-bed = Milk and cottage cheese if possible. I can't find the cheese.

P.S. Welcome to H&F.

Rippetoe workout is a full body workout which is more focus on strength ,the full body workout just some sort like your body part split but do it all together in one day and hit 3 times all body per week. Rep range is 8-10reps .

i didn't mean to critisize u, i'm sure u're aware of that.
just pointing out the importance of proper nutrition.

General Rule,
PreWO, u want low GI... cos low GI gets released to your body at a stable rate,
giving you and sustaining energy when you workout.

PostWO, u want High GI. For reasons i already stated on my first post.

Nice post by Jones, i didn't know that about skipping bfast.
But for me, taking carbs for bfast and throughout a workout day is necessary
to equip ur body with enough glycogen (energy). Without it, your workout will suck.
And when your workout suck, your gains will suck too no matter how good your post workout is.

one more thing...
i realized you eat like a girl.

I hope you realized in order for muscle to grow, you must eat.
No program can make you grow if you simply won't eat.

Don't mind me being cranky, low carb diet can do that to you, hence the avatar.
If you found my post to be offensive in any way, i apologize.

poundages means jackshit...
if you're a true bber, strength is not your mail goal.
muscle contraction is what you need.

use apropriate weights that is enough for contractions. do reps like 8-12 and sets like 3-5. do the weights where u will feel its hard, doing easy weights aint gonna help. and always increase your weights. do like 5-10lbs increment every 3-5 week and do alternate exercises for each muscle part. stick to the same rep set weight lift for life will not help, u need something different to stimulate your muscle.

dude. ditch the fry man. no fry fried frying. boiled egg, or wat ever. fry will give u fat. your weights, 20lbs not inclusive of bar weight right? u using the barbell?? 1st time shouldn't hurt that much. unless u have very weak core muscles. meet up with syd and get her to teach u, dont screw your deadlift and squats, or they will screw u back.

you meals still kinda stink, no offense.

What's ur obsession with fried eggs? go for hard boil, taruh kicap kan sedap ?
your pre workout still needs some major change. Not enough protein and carbs.
Can't you take something like brown rice + chicken ? Milk is ok, but not optimal.

your "after w/o meal" a.k.a post workout meal is bad...
too much fats and sugar (what you don't need). Need more protein.

and your late night meal, sausages and fish fillet is err...
try to go all natural, eat stuffs like chicken breast or beef, fish...
avoid processed food like sausages, fish fillet, nuggets etc if possible.

and can you list down the time you take these stuff ? kthanksbye.

Food intake:
morning: Milo, 2 HARD BOILED eggs ,milk and bread
lunch: rice, meat, prawns and vege!! where's the vege? cut the milo out. too much carbs
Pre w/o meal : bread or oats and nescafe no milk for pre, u need lots of time to digest milk, u dont wana give your body to do 2 jobs at the same time. take oats. oats could only last 30 minutes in my stomach, good for pre workout.
After w/o meal : buy your whey protein and drink a post workout shake consist of 2 scoops of whey, 2 stable spoon of glucose, 1 table spoon of honey.
dinner: rice, meat and VEGE! lots of meat pls, and cut the fried egg.
night: i'll consider this as pre bed, take 400ml milk + 1 scoops of whey. good enough

teak it to this.

Let's not force people to go whey unless they wanted to themself.
There are lotsa great bbers that don't do whey.
and since he is not taking whey, i think it's important that his pwo, he take white rice?
to spike up his insulin rather than taking bread WITH BUTTER (fat slows down absorbtion).

don't u think ?

and you're right about taking more greens..
if emran is planning to stick to that diet, i think you need to supplement your diet
with multi vitamins. Healthy muscles are growing muscles.

whey is essential. nowadays lotsa great bbers who dont take whey takes BCAA. lol so whey is important, the basic supplement. unless u wana eat chicken breast all the time until u vomit and shit chicken breast. u'll get sick of it even tho u need it. whey is different, its easy to choke down.

milk is too slow to be absorbed by your body in time as post workout. i would recommend good lean red meat and carrots and brocolli as post. CHICKEN BREAST!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wouldn't recommend cardio for warm up. do bodyweight warm up for your lift, example squats : do 2x8-12 squats with the bar alone for warm up. practice the movement. practices makes perfection. for bench or wat ever its the same. and stretch a weee bit b4 start. dont stretch too hard. u'll screw your lifts.

Smith Machine.

Woah , so many things happened after I invited them into da msn chat room. my bad ...

Hey , I think the stuff that u need the most is meet syd G and she will teach u all those basic lifts and u can start your own journey more smoothly.

When I first came here(u can see how noob am I at my journal or search my post , lolx) , luckily I know Jones before I'm an active member at H&F. He taught me a lot , and the only thing now u need is a good guy like Jones. BTW , whey don't need first lah , after some months then only consider getting it. Save some money first , now just to learn the basic lifts and technique and remember ask us if got any questions either in msn or here.

Cheers smile.gif

taking milk b4 will make ur body confused and messed up. cuz u r telling your body to digest milk and workout some strength for u. so its a no no. just take good lean red meat post workout 1 hour later.

squats with smith machine is the worst thing u can do to your back. u gonna screw your back nicely with smith machine squats. why? let me tell u why

as king stated b4 when u squat down your bar is suppose to move and adjust its position accordingly to your body, everyone's biomechanical movement is different, some ppl are meant squat this way and that way eg, i only can do wide stance squat, narrow stance i get popped knees.

so in the smith machine the bar movement is lock and it forces your body to move against it's biomechanical figure to suit the bar's movement. thus, screwing your back nicely. so do it on a squat rack or power rack or clean it, jerk and squat or wat ever la. dont use the smith machine.

After going 15/side then only upgraded to Oly. Still hard cause stabilizer muscles were not developed.

Now I lost track of my poundages dy. Havent squat in a long time biggrin.gif

Okie. Rippetoe's Rules :

1) Dun mess with the workouts. Ditch teh shrugs, upright row. Ur supposed to do chins & hypers today instead

2) You're supposed to be resting today too since you did Set A yesterday.

Glutes = butt muscle. Front thigh = Quads, back thigh = hamstrings. Why on earth were you doing bench presses?

2) Hypers - use the Roman chair downstairs @ the stretching area

Aiya ... Cannot do liedat ler. Dia macam... basuh baju. You cant rendam everything for 3 days straight then only 4th day basuh. Baju busuk tongue.gif

Remember this - Eat, Lift, Rest, Repeat. Right now the 3xworkouts/week are still bearable. Later on you'll be longing for more rest days wink.gif

I had the Bench Press argument with my trainer the other day. He said that if no pain @ teh chest then I was not working hard enough. For a few months of training I had to wear something to support my wrist cause else I wont be able to support the weight needed for chest sore. Remember, bench press is a compound exercise. Your chest may be able to handle the weight but your shoulders, teeny tiny wrist muscles, triceps and lats might not. Give it time to condition. Thats why you need the rest smile.gif

there are programs out there which gives and apply the theory, for example super sets and westside program. these are theory, u should customize the program your self applying the theory. but for rippetoe and madcow, its about program not theory(besides madcow DF.).

i don't waste time in the loo,
it's only 2 minutes and i'm out.

I dunno bout u guys lah... but i realized most of you stress too much on programs.
You blame everything on the program. E.g. people not growing etc bcos they screw the program bla bla bla...
but to me, i am more concerned with the nutrition side. Yes, training is important, but only to a certain extent.
and i can assure you, ALL of us here in H&F are trainning our butts off, so trainning isn't a factor here whenever we're not progressing. Nutrition is the key... in fact, nutrition HAS A LOT TO DO with whether or not we progress and grow.
I don't know what you think lah, but it's just how i see it. It's not so much on the program.

as per my post. if u wana make your own program and u feel that u know your body good enough. u can definitely customize your own program and use the theories provided. but then its not us that complaining about the program. its u complaining u r not gaining from the program, simply becuz u screw it. if u follow the program 100% and only adjust wat is allowed and get no gains, then u can advance into theories and stuff.

the problem is previous me and u doing madcow together,

i get good gains ; u dont get good gains
i dont screw program ; u screw program

see the equations? no offence mate

Erm.. I consider programs as recipes. People with almost zero cookery skill can cook up a great meal just by following instructions. But you still need to know the difference between poaching, boiling and steaming no? You may fiddle around recipes, add/remove ingredients and additional stuff if you know what you're doing.

Rippetoe Starting Strength programs are for beginners who... *ahem* being beginners usually dont know what they're doing. So just follow the program and reap the benefits. When you have deeper knowledge on what workout develops what muscles and which part of your body lacks behind compared to other bodyparts, then you can fiddle around with it.

In my personal opinion, most people screw up a program cause they dont have the base of fitness (basic strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and stamina etc) to do it. For example, the underdevelopment of hamstrings cause you cant go deep enough while squatting. Or underdevelopment of the lats muscles cause you keep on half-benching just because your chest can take the load but your back cant and blame it on 'flexibility' issue. If you can reduce the load and go full ROMs, you're just suffering from an imbalanced-compound workout.

Dont even get me start about balance. You can have the strongest quad in the world but if you cant do a simple one-legged squat, you dont have the balance. You need endurance and stamina too since these programs are intense and you'll need very long rest periods as you progress further.

edit : grammar stuff smile.gif

something i don't understand up till this day...

1. why do u keep saying i screw the program?
2. when have i ever said i'm not gaining ?
(i always boast bout my lats, it's u guys who thinks it's nothing)

Jones, as a friend i wanna congratulate you on ur insane lats progress.
But just because you reap leap and bounds, does not mean i am not progressing (cos we're doing same program).
To me, the reason your lats looks so freaking insane is because of your small waist, a.k.a illusion.

We are of different Body types... i'm fat. I have a 36" waist but i still managed a V-Taper.
My lats doesn't stand out cos of my waist. Which is why i am cutting now, trying to get my pants size down to 34.
Trust me buddy, if seeing u this big whereas i'm still not progressing, i would have hit myself with a brick.
The reason i'm cool with it is because i know i am growing. Just at a slightly different rate. And it's illusion.

u complained to me about your chest and traps.

i know u didn't follow the 5x5 program accordingly cuz u r doing it very very different from how i am doing it. the rampings weights u decide yourself and didn't follow the 10-15% increment rule, u do 10s instead of 8s for drop sets after triples.. u do triples at your own will and at weights u prefer rather than follow the 2.5% rule..

and mind u, my waist size at belly button is 35 inch. and i'm not bs'ing' about my waist size.

AND AGAIN! NO OFFENCE! TAKE THIS DISCUSSION/DEBATE WITH CHILL YAAA laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Yeah, i'm cool... we're just talking.

btw, i do 8s after triples... what made u think i was doing 10?
but you're right about me not following the exact % increment.
mainly due to me not having microplates.... many a times, i was supposed to
lift e.g. 61.7kg.... but i'd go "what the heck, let's just do 62.5kg.
It's either equal or higher, never lower. And i don't see any reason why
this would affect anything as if my body would noticed a few grams of difference.

and i don't want people to misinterpret what i say (like they always do).
I was not insulting you by saying "it's illusion"... But that is the fact, small waist
does make lats to appear bigger. And if it's anything, i envy u cos of that illusion.
It's something i would want too, i am cutting right now.

36" is my hip size, the place where i put my pants on, just below that flab of fats.
You wanna talk about belly button (i have a lot of fats on my love handles), it'll
probably measure up to 40... maybe 41".

yeah u can round the weights up to 62 or 61 or any weight avaible. even i round the weights up. u need to follow the percentage thingy. cuz that the main base of madcow.

i said u did 10s cuz at anabolic gym u did 10... lol..

talking about small waist is fine and illusion is fine. but sayimg i'm genetically gifted is really making me upset lol. i work like shit in the gym like u guys and i do diet.. say i'm genetically strong is fine but genetically gifted in growing big is a no no lol

everybody is different lah bro...
everyone grows at different rates.

we cannot compare gains like that.
when i said you are genetically gifted, i meant it in comparison to me.
There's lotsa things to take into consideration,
maybe it's ur training, maybe it's ur diet... or maybe it's just ur genes, i wouldn't know.

but no doubt you're working hard... nothing comes easy else there'll be lotsa big mofos walking around laugh.gif

Yea. I think it will help you with recovery a bit...

FF plates are all in KG. Only the pre-loaded barbells and dumbbells are in pounds.

recovery? eat more meat. more protein, more rest. dont stress yourself. and if u move from smith to free weights. remember to drop the weights by at least 20-50 lbs. its alot harder doing free weights
