Thanks. Dropped them a msg (inc the other distributor), now awaiting their reply.
Mine is 1TB model, I doubt i have reached its claimed TBW (too good to be true anyway) and not even 90% full. All i know, windows entered check disk and in windows, the disk appeared intermittently. Cant even detect the diak in bios.

I wonder why SSD price increase ? is it because of HBM memory shortage because many country hoarding for storage on AI ?

but it's a big deal where it increase over 60%.Last year still see samsung 870 , 500GB rm160 as now rm270.
Even worst , mechanical HDD follow the trend , if HDD hike , HDD also hike.Last year still can get WD blue rm230 2TB now over rm330.

2nd hand HDD also increase ? no reason at all.

Since it going to hike , what is the cheapest solution now ? holdout or buy now ? or buy 2nd ?
*
Buy like 6 mths ago.. oh wait.

Not too late to buy buy buy! NAND prices continue to go up so SSD prices too plus our Ringgit Madani getting shittier daily so every new SSD batch distros bring in surely will get currency inflation too.

I would be wary of buying 2nd hand coz NAND do gets wornout with usage worse if used to mine Chia coin unless you 100% trust seller.

I read some online review like laz and other online selling , mostly still old stock base on production date batch upload review picture.Old stock but seller sell as new stock price.
As for HDD also the same , i doubt there are people buying HDD 1-2TB now adays.

but , if seller increase price , no buyer buying and they just wait , then how seller earn ?

Which SSD type and brand is useful for storage ? Just 1 time store , never need rewrite.Actually pendrive also can but there is no 1TB pendrive.

For offline archiving, HDD is better. It seems that magnetic plates is more stable at holding data without power for years vs SSD NAND

As long as the storage size is 'real' (not like SSD with thumbdrive inside), a used HDD is still more robust compared to used SSD. Whatmore if the SSD was from a Chia coin rig.

A 'dead' HDD you can prolly still get data out of it as the magnetic platters are still intact, unlike exhausted SSD the NAND controller will basically kills itself.

So if given a choice for offline archiving Id take my chances with used HDD rather than used SSD.

Received an update today from the shop - they have received the replacement unit from the supplier. pending courier.

that's about 1 month of waiting. pretty standard for RMA i guess?

update: received the replacement ssd today. new, unopened. same model & size.

Do try a CDInfo read just to be sure its brand new (low hour power on).

Market play by manufacturer, last time over produce price went low, now lower production jack price up. Who say oil is cartel, semicon also cartel style just they no openly say 😂
*
You think there were no cartels before? During Covid there was GPU cartel to sell to miners. Way way back there was DRAM cartel which kena fine, then there was a HDD cartel. SSD cartel is just the latest only bro

4TB SN850X, one of the top-end PCIe 4 SSDs, sold for 230 USD, about rm270 per GB. that was during black friday and december sales last year (I posted about these)

this year KC3000, a used-to-be affordable PCIe 4 SSD, sells for ~RM460 per GB

Indeed for something this expensive and no warranty is a big risk... then again for storage, hardware loss is the least of your problems as whats inside is more precious

My old PC with i5 6402P, 8gb, gtx 1605

Still using SATA hdd

Try to run windows 11 and slow like hell

Will changing to SSD going to improve anything?

Plan to use it for normal surfing webpage and occasionally football manager games

If yes, any recommendations for 500gb SSD
*
If your still on HDD as primary drive then defo YES IT WILL BE A HUGE DIFFERENCE! Boot time can reduce by 50 - 70%
Doesnt matter even Sata SSD will see big improvements, whatmore if going NVME.

For SATA SSD get those with DRAM cache ie Crucial MX500, or Samsung 860/870 Evo, or Kingston KC600 (just becareful that Kingston has a number of sata SSD series but mostly are DRAMless crap or QLC NAND except KC)

Don't think I will go NVME

Slot is hidden behind motherboard, need to unscrew everything and remove my motherboard

SATA SSD is my first choice

https://my.shp.ee/Yv9n1uZ

Is this you refer to?

What is the keywords for Sata SSD with Dram

Thanks anyway
*
Yes that is Crucial MX500. Just make sure you get from legit seller. If too cheap its usually fake.

Not many will tell you its included with DRAM moreso Sata SSD nowadays are no longer reviewed. I remember there is an Excel list on the net with nearly all the SSD existing and it listed with or without DRAM. You will need to find that listing to be sure, otherwise just go with the models I put up.

This is the most affordable 2TB Gen 4 SSD on the market right now, especially when combined with multiple vouchers and Lazada coins.

Really good price you paid. Pray hard that shop wont cancel the order with excuse 'no stock' because of too many discounts. Happen to me (but in shopee)

The ROG Ally fully supports Gen 4 NVMe. However, I'm considering opting for a Gen 3 NVMe to save some money, based on Reddit posts that indicate the ROG Ally performs well even with Gen 3 drives.

In addition, after reviewing the hardware specifications for most Gen 3 and Gen 4 NVMe SSDs, I noticed that Gen 3 NVMe drives tend to consume less power compared to their Gen 4 counterparts. This could potentially result in longer battery life for the ROG Ally.

Moreover, Gen 3 drives typically run cooler, which means less heat transfer to the APU.
*
Just telling the truth, and it also happen to 1-2 other forumers here. Just hope your not No.3 tongue.gif

i will tell you a little secret, Gen4 only matters when massive file swapping, as in immersive type games ie Skylines 2. For handheld consoles, the storage & graphical settings arent as demanding so a good Gen3 will still be fine. And yes its lower power draw plus less heat will have noticeable longer battery life.

I was so caught up playing on my ROG Ally with the 2TB KC3000 that I didn’t even notice it was running at PCI-e 4.0 x1 instead of PCI-e 4.0 x4.

Turns out the 2230 to 2280 adapter was the issue. I swapped it out for a different one and finally got full speed.

Honestly, though, in gaming, I couldn’t even feel the difference between 2GB/s (16Gb/s) and 8GB/s (64Gb/s).
*
IINM ROG Ally not yet have DirectStorage and the SSD demand for handheld game arent so high as PC, so maybe that is why after load game environment, there is lesser disk swaps which you might not perceive the difference in bandwidth speed.

At peak usage, my KC3000 in the ROG Ally reaches 76°C while Steam installs games. Is this temperature safe?

Unfortunately, the M.2 connector is too low to fit any heatsink. I already bought one, but it's unusable because the 0.5mm thermal pad is still too thick, making it impossible to screw down the SSD.

To make matters worse, the 2TB KC3000 has chips on both sides, so I had to install 0.5mm thermal pads on both sides. This is why it’s impossible to screw the SSD into the M.2 connector.
*
No its not. Look at its spec sheet operating temps: 0°C~70°C.

Phison E18 based SSD users particularly the popular KC3000 should take note this warning to ASAP update the firmware due to midterm use degradation and loss of speed

model and name in screenshot

when copy file to this disk task manager disk usage will 100%, avg respond time will get over 2000 to 10000ms

Use another SATA cable

Move to another SATA port

Use it on USB enclosure

Btw mine is HP desktop, currently SSD connected to blue color SATA port (SATA0), there is also got white color SATA port (SATA1), what the different? Trying google search no result

Edit, is SATA0 to HDD blue color port, SATA1 white color no connect anything, SATA2 connect to this SSD blue color port
*
Different colour could mean which connects to CPU and which connects to chipset/onboard SATA controller.

If its not apparent before and getting worse by day, it could mean SSD degradation. Have you done CD info and HD Sentinel scan yet?

As above already posted ssd health, very less tbw,
Copy out big file no issue, copy in ssd very slow, need check my drawer got extra SATA cable or not
I not yet test change SATA port as not sure white color port what mean
*
Need more than one test. Also inhouse app cannot always trust. Mine Adata app give me far higher speeds than CDMark, Iometer & others.

Do process of elimination
Use same cable but different ports, compare speed
Use different cable, but test for each port, compare speed

If consistent its likely your SSD is ran out of buffer or some shit DRAMless QLC

IINM SSD are multiyear warranty, so if your not happy can do RMA too. No guarantees the next one will be better tho.
