i heard stories from both sides, sellers and buyers. based on those stories, our rights as consumer really need to be improved.

as consumer, i suggest to stick to sellers that are committed to buyers. eventhough the price might be relatively higher, as long as the price is fair imo, i am good. so far, i am lucky enough because my personal experience with online shopping are ok. (maybe because these sellers that i deal with are mostly established and known; they normally communicate proactively and properly if something happen)

here i take the shop that sold me micron 7450 at shopee as an example. i took the risks, and they honored the transaction. eventhough they have adjusted price after that (doubled now), i think that current price is fair for a 3.84tb, because they are bare e1.s units. the controller runs very hot without heatsinks, and you need adapters/cables if you don't have them already.

i find asking questions to clear doubts before purchase saves me from a lot of potential troubles. this must be done before purchase, not after. for purchases from overseas, i do ask them to check the goods before delivery. previously i bought a specific profile key cap set that the seller was too confident and skipped checking (well, it's a sealed box set. maybe they didn't wanna spoil the thrill when peeling off the plastic), then ended up sending me a set with 2x '6' keys  for number row (missing '5'). as replacement, they sent me 1x '5' key, and another '6' key for free (to make '666')

edit: tbh, all legit sellers need to put food on their tables. i rather pay a bit more to support such good sellers than get scammed for nothing good in return.

Yeah, totally agree. Will drop a message first before pulling the trigger in the future to all sellers. Cheapest now is from Just IT tech at RM429 for 1TB

I found WD sn580 but then no dram, don't think I need 1tb yet..(in the future maybe)

no i'm poor. i like to help reducing e-waste, so i sambut second-hand stuff from the actual 'orang kaya'

intel has done the same for years. that's why i was reluctant to upgrade for a long time. i will keep my x299 machines for as long as it can run. 44 pci-e lanes, although pci-e 3.0, can still do a lot of things.

i don't have much experience in amd's cpus for personal computing.

right, but those were my previous needs. these days i have better machines at work, so i can make use of them to do heavy lifting. at home, i don't need to have powerhouses like xeon or epyc anymore.

currently my bottomline is 4x pci-e 4.0 ssds. afaik there are quite a number of z790 options available. if i go for better pci-e 5.0 support, i need to pay more.

for my current main rig at home, i have also started to disable sata in bios, and run full pci-e nvme.

i don't think they will be adjusted to new heights. the current pricing has started to make their drives to look more 'competitive'.

also, the price of mainstream ssds are being adjusted to a point that doesn't make sense to consumers. that will make more consumers switching to waiting game mode. it's bad for the market.

ssd price hike is not a big deal to most people i think. to them, ssd is just not one of their priorities. that's why we never have news about general public going panic when ssds have its price hiked.

for those who know a bit more, i believe they already have enough time to get prepared since last year hehe

right. this is also the main reason why people should get options with higher capacity if possible.

with simple optimizations and appropriate usage, good-quality ssds can live long. it's like more than 10 years for ssds with mlc nand. hence, ssds always serve two purposes for me. the first part of their shelf life will be system/work/storage drives, to provide speed and performance. years later, they will retire and become external storage. no moving parts in ssd make them good for the purpose.

previously i tend to get what's enough for me. however, by the time these drives retired, their capacities become not that sufficient as external storage.
yeah, maybe they were busy living their lives hehe

My Transcend MTE220S crapped out after 2 years. I only use it to store games and some documents.
