i heard stories from both sides, sellers and buyers. based on those stories, our rights as consumer really need to be improved.

as consumer, i suggest to stick to sellers that are committed to buyers. eventhough the price might be relatively higher, as long as the price is fair imo, i am good. so far, i am lucky enough because my personal experience with online shopping are ok. (maybe because these sellers that i deal with are mostly established and known; they normally communicate proactively and properly if something happen)

here i take the shop that sold me micron 7450 at shopee as an example. i took the risks, and they honored the transaction. eventhough they have adjusted price after that (doubled now), i think that current price is fair for a 3.84tb, because they are bare e1.s units. the controller runs very hot without heatsinks, and you need adapters/cables if you don't have them already.

i find asking questions to clear doubts before purchase saves me from a lot of potential troubles. this must be done before purchase, not after. for purchases from overseas, i do ask them to check the goods before delivery. previously i bought a specific profile key cap set that the seller was too confident and skipped checking (well, it's a sealed box set. maybe they didn't wanna spoil the thrill when peeling off the plastic), then ended up sending me a set with 2x '6' keys  for number row (missing '5'). as replacement, they sent me 1x '5' key, and another '6' key for free (to make '666')

edit: tbh, all legit sellers need to put food on their tables. i rather pay a bit more to support such good sellers than get scammed for nothing good in return.
*
Im with you on this, after my scammed with cancel order I bought next from ALLIT since as well known and established seller with lotsa physical stores. A bit more expensive too but yeah was expecting an honest seller. But after hearing shinjite experience, somemore with ALLIT, I think no sellers are truly honest.

Yeah, totally agree. Will drop a message first before pulling the trigger in the future to all sellers. Cheapest now is from Just IT tech at RM429 for 1TB
*
Not really much choice then. I bought from JustIT before and they didnt cancel it so if you go for it cross fingers I dont think they will cancel it and if you need an SSD, better buy now since global prices will be going up so no point waiting for better deals.

hello, is kc3000 still the go to for 500gb m.2 nvme ssd?
I found WD sn580 but then no dram, don't think I need 1tb yet..(in the future maybe)
*
1TB kingston KC3000 RM465 or 1TB adata XPG legend 960 max RM420

Grab bigger now as SSD price will increase further later so you dont wanna spend later for the same size.

Any opinions on these 2 models?
WD Black SN850X M.2 2280
Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 2280

Starting to get boot read failures, so this SSD will be used as main boot drive. Looking at 1TB
*
WD Black SN850X M.2 2280 - top of the line Gen4 SSD
Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 2280 - top of the line Gen3 SSD

Choose whichever suits your needs.

This is my motherboard H310M-GM.2

Does it matter if I used gen 3 or 4 on this motherboard? Would it support?
*
Not really, your mobo is Gen2 so either one will be overkill.

yes the news is the last call for those who are still on the wall about ssd upgrade.

i have harvested enough 2tb and 3.84tb last year. they should last for quite a while.
*
Me too got a M2 2TB drive last year now just left an M2 slot open, so I will keep that for future upgrade down the line.

Doesn't qualify for nice vouchers like the 15% coin cashback. Bright star got same price but quality for that voucher.
*
Just be wary of too good to be true deals. Even for well known shops they might just cancel the order later with excuse "Out of Stock" and nothing much you can do.

WD Blue SN580 1TB for RM310

Is this a good price?
*
It is what it is. SSD going to get more expensive. WD Blue good for storage use just not so good as OS drive.

Makes no sense. You lose 1 extra NMVE slot just to gain RAID speed which a single fast Gen4 drive like 990 Pro is even faster and no cross drive latency loss since the 2nd RAID unit will certainly plug to the chipset PCIE lane.

Obviously Msian waterfish prices on top of KS waterfish MSRP.

<1% difference from regular 14900K but with whole lotsa power drawn (which you can still get with an OCed regular 14900K haha). Basically not worth it unless you want bragging rights for having a limited CPU.

.. wow thanks a lot for this. you're right, it's not cheap at all. 14900k it is then.
yeah i'm too optimistic lol

tbh i'm happy with my current system. however it's starting to show its age.

it's time to move on.
*
Your current setup HEDT, need something like Xeon Sapphire/Emerald Rapids or Threadripper to be equivalent category.

right. i went for hedt because i needed more pci-e lanes for work stuff at home.

these days, even the mainstream cpu is good enough for me haha
no i'm poor. i like to help reducing e-waste, so i sambut second-hand stuff from the actual 'orang kaya' biggrin.gif
*
Problem is Intel kiamsiap with PCIE lanes only enough for GPU, 2-4 4X PCIE/NMVE devices or SSD. You want more bandwidth they force you go with Xeon. AM5 more generous but platform stability issues.

intel has done the same for years. that's why i was reluctant to upgrade for a long time. i will keep my x299 machines for as long as it can run. 44 pci-e lanes, although pci-e 3.0, can still do a lot of things.

i don't have much experience in amd's cpus for personal computing.
*
People go with LGA2066 platform for one reason only; PCIE lane whoring.
I kinda knew your usage would need that much lanes which is why I reco go for Xeon instead. Even LGA1700 If you ady have GPU & 2 SSD pretty much left only 1-2 open 4x channel for addons. Not a lot if you coming from HEDT previously

right, but those were my previous needs. these days i have better machines at work, so i can make use of them to do heavy lifting. at home, i don't need to have powerhouses like xeon or epyc anymore.

currently my bottomline is 4x pci-e 4.0 ssds. afaik there are quite a number of z790 options available. if i go for better pci-e 5.0 support, i need to pay more.

for my current main rig at home, i have also started to disable sata in bios, and run full pci-e nvme.
*
If no more needing all that PCIE lanes then yeah Z790 full ATX will be plenty for most users. If need to install lotsa NVME SSD, get one that can do lane bifurcation.

i don't think they will be adjusted to new heights. the current pricing has started to make their drives to look more 'competitive'.

also, the price of mainstream ssds are being adjusted to a point that doesn't make sense to consumers. that will make more consumers switching to waiting game mode. it's bad for the market.
*
Oh you havent seen anything yet, SSD prices in the Western world have only started picking up & predictions will top up at Q3 so prices havent yet plateaued and likely will go even higher towards later this year.

ssd price hike is not a big deal to most people i think. to them, ssd is just not one of their priorities. that's why we never have news about general public going panic when ssds have its price hiked.

for those who know a bit more, i believe they already have enough time to get prepared since last year hehe
*
Depends on who you ask. Many still come here wondering why SSD prices so expensive like they didnt get the memo months ago, so some might want to hold purchase thinking it might drop again but hooboy its gonna go even higher again. So those holdouts buy now if still can, but you really should have bought months ago.

right. this is also the main reason why people should get options with higher capacity if possible.

with simple optimizations and appropriate usage, good-quality ssds can live long. it's like more than 10 years for ssds with mlc nand. hence, ssds always serve two purposes for me. the first part of their shelf life will be system/work/storage drives, to provide speed and performance. years later, they will retire and become external storage. no moving parts in ssd make them good for the purpose.

previously i tend to get what's enough for me. however, by the time these drives retired, their capacities become not that sufficient as external storage.
yeah, maybe they were busy living their lives hehe
*
Dont rely on the estimated lifespan of an SSD, its just only a prediction. I had an MLC SSD that died only 5 years so its better to not belief everything as claimed.

Yeah busy being waterfishes. Gotta have some of them in the market. Its like popping into the property market to buy and then wonder why their bought value drop.

Anybody knows who should I contact for RMA?

Wow! Its claim to fame is its much higher than average TBW & MTBF. Looks like that was only good on paper.
