hopefully this willl be resolved soon. i'm still on w10. i thought of upgrading previously, but looking at ms' long history, it's better to wait.

Upgrade to Win11 once Win10 support is over on Oct 2025. At least it will be stablier than today nod.gif

while win11 looks are more pleasing than Win10,
performance still sucks big time, im on the beta insider, the open file explorer dialog bug never fixed for months, it's really slow if you try to open or save documents.
then then dreaded slow write bug, never actually benchmark yet.
standby drain, it gulping battery juice much faster than win10.

Microsoft until now never understand why people doesnt want to pay for their OS, rather than pirate it, welp, whose gonna pay hundreds bucks to use shitty OS?  sweat.gif  whistling.gif  tongue.gif

Never be early beta or Preview user for Windows. These are just for daring bug testers. Always go for stable builds.

but i get to test latest updates from Windows, it has it perks
my Win10 license was given for free when i joined insider too

Im suppose fresh install could solve the issue, had many issues with Windows i could not solve even with tons of google lol
the latest issue is forgot LAN access password, I'm trying one last time before fresh install.
*
Regular users would just want it to work tho, without crashes, BSODS, or acting weirdly. Whatever perks arent such a gamechanger that later birds will get to enjoy at a later time anyways.

Just for psa,
The same fake ssd already selling on lazada sg.
Just beware because it looks like samsung 980 series.

Takeaway;
1. Seller with random name
2. Extremely cheap
3. Ship from overseas

No point to warn. Some will get upset when we point it out.

Tq, also using 2tb kc3000 now.

Thinking whether to buy ssd230s 4tb or just hdd to store games setup files. Since hdd is still half the price of ssd even after the price drops in ssd.
*
IF you play AAA titles, more soon will come with DirectStorage which will use SSD speeds so its better to use any type of SSD for game storage

This particular model has a bad rep deswai its cheaply sold
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/pny-xlr8-...most-80-percent

PNY, ADATA and even Kingston(unless its cheapo media) are brands I would keep away for their tendency to steeply downgrade memory parts with drastic performance hits.

Seagate probably sourcing from other flash maker, it didnt bought OCZ, it was Toshiba.
*
Toshiba still exist as Kioxia which is why I didnt say they are Seagate. I think Firecuda more direct ancestor was OCZ. CMIIW

EDIT: Correction, after checking Firecudas direct ancestor was Sandforce LSI. OCZ were one of the big users of Sandforce back then, hence the indirect correlation.

hi all, im here because my ssd died. I learned the hard way of importance of backing up data and files.

Does brand matter for m2 ssd for usage on laptop? If i just buy from well known one, for instance Kingston, should be fine right?
*
Brands matters less that what it actually sells. Kingston that you mentioned, sells pisspoor NV2 SSD to the bang for buck KC3000. There is a difference why the better one cost nearly 30% more but most people will likely go for the cheaper option without knowing better.

Just a educational guess, the cheaper 1 has lower RW speed, and NAND 2D(?)

Any recommendation for m2 sata ssd? Old laptop lol

Edit: Probably going to buy crucial mx500 500gb, recommend me if there is better option
*
Lower RW speeds dont really matter in daily usage, unless transferring/using lotsa data between. Not only that KC3000 is clocked higher but has DRAM and TLC vs NV2 QLC which affects SSD durability. Close eyes get MX500 its the go to for SATA3 SSD these days when many good ones are gone.

ooooo learn many new terms today. I know what to look for in pcie nvme next time.

I found better option. Samsung Evo 870 500GB - 300 TBW or 5 years vs MX500 - 180 TBW or 3 years

Samsung evo 870 is cheaper on the market. Probably getting 2.5" instead of m2 too, cheaper. I dont need high volume, so 500GB enough. Dont judge me  unsure.gif

Yea, sata3 is really old interface.

I think got firmware update that fixes the problem. Its a 2022 post. Now almost 2024 already.
*
Perhaps they have been one but even so maybe that drive bought still havent been updated and most regular users arent so aware of this issue nor they have to update firmwares on SSD (back when people using HDD it is so rare to need a firmware update). To be cautious better just get MX500

Guys, thinking to get another 1TB SSD..
My current one is KC3000, not sure if there is alternative or KC3000 is still the best value.

To add storage into my desktop. M2 / Sata also can fit.
Aside from that, i read some issue about ssd died earliier few post, wanted to know majority here only rely SSD as backup? Or do you guys still use HDD for alternative backup?

If ur looking for a non-Phison type MVME that will perform comparably well, can try for Adata Gammix S70 /Blade which uses Innogrit's IG5236 controller
user posted image

Another non-Phison contender is also from Adata, the Legend 960 powered by Silicon Motion SM2264
user posted image

Phison based are too overhyped and overpriced these days.
The S70 Blade which the only version sold here, is equipped similarly to KC3000 with a thin metal heatsink plate. Meanwhile the Legend 960 sold here is Max version with a compact PS5 compatible heatsink block.

Pricing wise, I tracked that S70 Blade being cheaper to KC3000 while 960 Max is price comparable but with a good sized heatsink included so both can give you better value than KC3000.

Others less known are:

Acer Predator GM7000 is also an IG5236 based NVME and performance is comparable to above, but Acer is known to use Chinese YMTC NAND in their other SSDs so ur mileage may vary.
user posted image

SK Hynix Platinum P41 / Solidigm P44 Pro (both are brothers) using all SK Hynix controller & NAND
user posted image

Due to their less popularity, the above are cost a bit more locally but they are better known elsewhere and can be found at a good price on US based sites ie Amazon & Newegg

Ps, Acer as well as HP branded SSDs are actually made by Biwin under license.
So yeah, Chinese stuff

Personally I would avoid anything with YMTC NAND at the moment due to
https://goughlui.com/2023/10/10/psa-ssds-wi...heck-your-ssds/
*
Apple & the entire world dodged a bullet there. Imagine if millions of new iphones had originally used YMTC NANDS as was intended before the tech embargo happen.

I don't trust Chinese tech, they had advanced way too quickly without working out the bugs and intrinsic issues with their processes leading to these kind of durability problems.

bought a 990 pro 4TB during black friday sale for 250usd...baru received today. production date is 09.2023, probably void of firmware issue like last time lol. still recommending against samsung SSDs for a while though, until their track record is proven good again after the firmware fiasco.

SN850X 4TB was selling at 230usd during black friday sale as well.

DRAM and NAND chips will be getting more expensive starting next year, the production cuts have already been started. best time to buy high capacity SSDs is now

Bought from Amazon MY, Amazon SG, or Amazon USA?

Any opinions?

Except Aigo which I never heard about, the rest are consumer SSD which you can search for their reviews. Typically those 2TB ones are closer in configuration & parts to 4TB drives than 1TB search for those reviews/Utube.

There is a seller in ur link which I can see an obvious problem, as any Tom Dick & <racial reference removed> can be a seller in Shopee. Watch for scams when the price is too good to be true. Even tho the one he is selling is DRAMless (thats another issue altogether) so thus will be cheaper, it should not be this cheap.

Some of the SSD in ur list also has YMTC NAND which is reported to prematurely fail, then subsequent replacement drives also fail after shortwhile. While some brands might not tell you which NAND they use, a good giveaway is that YMTC chips are nearly always paired with a Maxio controller (and vice versa). The Aigo is one. On paper, Acer Predator is not it, but many other Acer SSD line are using the MAP+YMTC pairing so parts swapping have high possibility.

The TBW on SSD dont really mean much. Its just an indicator for warranty legal clause. I have a MLC SSD that kongs after just 3 years and supposedly MLC has far higher endurance than TLC so make it what you will.

And as I saw from ur links The FuryR SSD is pricier than KC3000 so how you calculate it cheaper? Anyhow both are actually the same drive, same exact components, but FuryR has a pricier heatsinked option and different OP firmware. That leaves Adata being the cheapest of the bunch.

But the question is why 4TB? Past 2TB the prices dont make much sense. Costwise its more than 2X the cost of a 2TB drive so you buy 2 and its still cheaper than a 4TB unit.
