Now officially listed on CFmoto Australia's website.
https://www.cfmoto.com.au/model/800mt-touringI think I read somewhere that CFmoto's KTM production line would have been up and running by now (Q2 2021). Reports are saying they'll take over the remaining production of the 790 Adv before making the upcoming 750 series.
That kind of explains why the 800MT shares a lot of the 790 Adv's electronic wizardry such as the 2-way quickshifter, Bosch cornering ABS, Bosch ride-by-wire throttle etc.
The whole lot probably come together with the LC8C engine, straight off the 790 Adv's production line. And that really ups the value proposition.
Anyway thanks to the OZ website, we now know exactly the diff between the basic Sport model vs the Touring model:
The cheaper Sport model has
1) No skid plate
2) No centrestand
3) No handguards
4) No spoked rims
5) No heated grips
6) No TPMS
7) No keyless ignition
8) No steering damper
9) No 2-way quickshifter
10) No cornering ABS
In my book, none of these is a deal breaker...! They're either completely unnecessary or can be added on once the aftermarket industry kicks in.
Still, it's good to know that even the Sport model retains the 7" TFT dash, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in satnav with downloadable app, Bosch ride-by-wire tech, riding modes (street, rain & off-road), cruise control, spot lights, adjustable KYB suspension, slipper clutch, 95 horses + 88nm torque.
Official 225kg wet weight is surprisingly competitive, which is a departure from the norm as Chinese bikes tend to be very porky for their class. Ground clearance is exceptional, only 10mm shy of KTM 790 Adv's 200mm, while the KYB suspension travel front & rear match V-strom 650's rear at 160mm the latter's front loses by 10mm and they seem to be fully adjustable for both preload & damping.
Interestingly... since the specs match up perfectly, I highly suspect the J. Juan brakes used in the 800MT are also the same items used in the 790 Adventure - on the KTM bike, they're branded KTM but the OEM manufacturer is... yup, J. Juan. I bet a whole load of KTM parts will fit... so the moniker 'the Chinese KTM 790 Adv' might actually be very close to the truth after all.
Bottom line, the numbers and spec listed on Australia's official CFmoto website look very, very, very good indeed!
Me, it's that fat, juicy 88nm torque I'm so crazy about... that's Tracer GT & Tiger 900 territory!
Starting to feel sorry for Suzuki & Kawasaki for being honest & sticking with their 650cc engine to stay in the 'middleweight' category, when the rest of the competition have outright cheated by digging out at least 200cc more.
