News broke that this model has now reached production stage, even though the launch has been delayed to 2021 due to the pandemic.

Apparently, CFMoto has been making engines & complete bikes for KTM so now they have leveraged their relationship with the Austrian brand to access the KTM 790 Adv chassis and the 799cc LC8C engine for a proper adventure tourer of their own. KTM is OK with it since they've moved up from 799cc to 889cc.

So now you've got an ADV-style bike with a KTM frame and a KTM engine complete with the hallmark 75-deg crank that pushes out 95 horses, full colour TFT dash, a 230kg kerb weight, 19" + 17" wheel combo, low seat height and cool looks penned by a KTM designer.

Motomalaya.net claim they were told this bike will enter the Msian market.

Better than hanging around waiting for Benelli's TRK800 - it's the end of 2020 but no further news of that bike yet from Benelli!

Adventure tourers seem to be the rage nowadays, a far cry from the 90s when hardcore face-down-ass-up 750cc supersport race-reps absolutely hogged all the news.

The Chinese assault on the adventure tourer market has given Suzuki the kick in the ass to stop being lazy and to update the V-Strom 650.

Although the current V-strom 650 model is technically only 3 years old, Suzuki's lazy decision to stick with a 650cc engine, analog dash, halogen headlights & incandescent bulb turnsignals means it will be outmuscled, outperformed and outstyled next year by the Chinese. So there's word that a major revamp will take place, using a brand new parallel twin engine.

I bet Kawasaki too will revamp their Versys 650 in response to the Chinese threat.

A little competition is always a good thing!

All for adventure & dual purpose bikes. Quite a lot of them popular ones are pretty heavy for me say even 650 versys.

Not sure which trails you guys do, i see some of them on my mountain bicycle, would prefer a lighter bike I can lift up myself in case of a tip over and a lower seat height ?
*
To be honest, very few actually take their bikes off road. Motor mahal mahh... siapa sanggup trash their ADVs like the angmohs do?

The ones who actually do, they ride scramblers.

The appeal of ADV style bikes is that they're not covered in shiny, fragile plastic like a traditional tourer (say a Honda ST1300), they hv crash bars, they're made to be loaded up with aluminium luggage & they're designed to handle shit roads better.

Taller ground clearance (due to the use of longer suspension & 19" rims) is what contributes to the height of these bikes, but I noticed that Chinese ADVs are consciously designed for shorter Asians in general by having a lower seat height than those from European marques.

Biggest hurdle is to change mindsets and stigma against Chinese brands, My bro has the CFMoto 650GT and he is happy with it. Needs people to stick their neck out to buy a Chinese bike before Suzuki or Kawasaki feels any threat. Otherwise, they will just say, "Even with all those new gadgets, people still won't buy a CF Moto, no threat to us selling old stuff".
*
On the flip side though, it's this kind of perception and mindset that keep the prices of Chinese bikes low.

Works for me...!

Having owned a second hand TNT600 that I successfully whacked as a daily driver for a good 4 years, I got no qualms with Chinese bikes as long as they're reputable.

Was originally looking forward to Benelli's TRK800 but there has been no news of it since the launch of the QJ SRB750 that it was supposed to be based on a few months ago. Now CFmoto is hogging the news.

Couldn't take up any of CFmoto's offerings before because I absolutely loathe 180-deg parallel twins. And my next bike will have to be a comfy 2-up tourer that will look good while being abused by me (I rarely wash & pamper my bikes). Now that they're using a KTM frame & an absolutely wikked KTM engine, I'm actually pretty damn stoked and eager for this one to come along.

Otherwise it's going to have to be the boring old V-strom. Reliable as hell I'm sure, but tearfully unimaginative.

KTM CFMoto Partnership Finally Bears Fruit With 800MT Adventure Bike

A lot of KTM's tech can be found on this new adventurer.

DEC 13 2020

Those who have kept abreast with Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CFMoto, are well aware that they produce motorcycles for KTM across the Asian market. Not only this, but CFMoto also purchased the rights to a number of KTM’s power plants—chief of which would be the 790 LC8 engine.

Now, nearly three years into the partnership, CFMoto is finally releasing a motorcycle derived from the company’s partnership with KTM. We all know how amazing an adventure bike the KTM 790 Adventure is. Its low weight, punchy engine, and trick suspension make it an extremely exhilarating machine to flog around off-road. That being said, CFMoto has capitalized on the partnership with KTM, and is rolling out an adventure bike derived from the 790 Adventure.

The all-new CFMoto 800MT features unique styling, but carries over many engineering features of the KTM. For instance, the frame, engine, and suspension setup are very similar to that of the 790. However, on the face of it, the CFMoto employs a unique and appealing design language.

Unlike the KTM, the CFMoto 800MT does not come with an underslung fuel tank. That’s a shame, especially given the fact that the lower center of gravity afforded by this setup is one of the reasons why the KTM handles so well. Nonetheless, we can expect the CFMoto to be priced a lot lower than the KTM 790 Adventure, as is the case with all of CFMoto’s bikes trying to make a name for themselves in their respective segments.

As for the engine, it’s safe to assume that an iteration of KTM’s 790 LC8 will be propelling this machine. Perhaps tweaked with a different state of tune, and variations in terms of intake and exhaust, we can expect the 800MT to be quite the performer, especially if it comes with an enticing price tag.

The wrappers have come off, now the bike is official.

The proper launch should be anytime soon, as per scheduled.

Love that metallic teal paintjob. The adjustable windscreen looks like it has a generous amount of travel - high up for touring or low down for offroading. No visible remote preload adjuster, which reminds me of the lesser specced KTM790 Adv S. Michelin Anakee tyres.

I was planning to buy a V-strom once the travel restrictions are lifted, but....

... DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMNNN....

RMB65k - RMB75k = RM41k - RM48k. Niceeeee.... that's V-strom/Versys territory here in Msia. The nearest competitor is the base model Triumph Tiger 850 at RM64k.

The photos reveal that it comes with adjustable forks, a steering damper, dedicated USB charging port plus an additional 12v socket, a proper cruise control, a very cool full-colour 7-inch TFT dash. On the dash display, it looks like it comes with phone integration via Bluetooth (maybe got satnav too?), rider modes plus TPMS too although 23.5bar is impossibly high to be the tyre pressure reading.

The literature claims it has a 2-way quickshifter (upshift & downshift), IMU-linked ABS & full Kayaba suspension.

If this pricing bracket survives when it arrives in Msia, it will be outright **INSANE**. Never before has a bike under RM50k presented so many cutting edge wizardry! When chances are the bike will be as mechanically sound as a KTM790, the challenge therefore will lie in the reliability (and durability) of these electronic gizmos...

People can bash China bikes all they want but... man... this is definitely a giant STEP UP.

Reminds me of Kia at the turning point when Peter Schreyer came on board. There was the weird, old Kia before that, then there's the world-class Kia after that.. and ppl stopped laughing & paid attention since.

Yep. Here's everything. The electronics worry me, coz not even KTM was spared from glitches.

Anyway, with the way the pandemic is going right now, I don't it would make any sense to buy adventure touring bikes before 2023. This shit will probably last till next Raya... if we're lucky.

KTM femes for glitches, oil leaks, and dash issues.
Maybe now it's made in China for the Chinese brand, it will be better.

Yeah... ironically the hang-ups that KTM has been having with their LC8c engine came from the production batches made in their Austrian factory.

CFMoto only started making that engine for KTM late last year.

Right now halfway 2021 already back to lockdown. By the time we reemerge, it'll be Q4 edy probably. So if the timetable is to be believed, end 2022 will be the safest bet... and even then I'd consider that to be optimistic.

In the meantime, the GC Ann sales guy keeps telling me the CKD V-strom 650 is coming in Aug. Then again, the same caveat applies lah... nak CKD apa kalau kilang lockdown?

Interestingly enough he says when it does happen, expect the price to be under RM40k. Whoahhh... Suzuki 650cc adv touring bike with legendary bulletproof reliability at Benelli prices? This I must see to believe!

Paul Tan's article says RM50k, which is expected.

Question is whether that's for the base model with the sport rim, the touring model with the spoked adv rim or the flagship model with the keyless ignition.

Here's hoping the figure's for the spoked wheels + aluminium luggage!

I don't know why Mohan Ramanujam here says the competition includes the Benelli TRK802 -- no such bike exists & Benelli has stopped mentioning this bike since late 2019.

2022 CFMoto 800MT adventure touring range in Malaysia soon – pricing to be “around RM50,000"

Coming to Malaysia in the near future, likely next year, is the 2022 CFMoto 800MT adventure touring motorcycle range. Born out of a technical and manufacturing partnership between Austrian motorcycle maker KTM and China manufacturer CFMoto, the 800MT has three variants across a two model range, the 800MT Sport and 800MT Touring.

In the engine room is a KTM designed Euro 5 compliant 799 cc parallel-twin, twin-spark, liquid-cooled with eight-valves and DOHC, fed by EFI with ride-by-wire throttle. Power is claimed to be 95 hp at 9,000 rpm with torque rated at 77 Nm at 7,500 rpm, numbers identical to the KTM 790 Adventure.

Power gets to the ground via a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch, with chain final drive. For the interested, the engine is built in CFMoto’s China facility under license, and is based on the previous generation KTM 790 two-cylinder mill that was superseded by the 890 engine.

Differences between the 800MT Sport and 800MT Touring include wheel type, the Sport rolling on alloy wheels while the Touring gets spoked wheels. Wheel sizing is 19-inch front and 17-inch, indicating the 800MT is biased more to the touring rather than the adventure side of things.

Braking is done by J Juan, with four-piston radial-mount callipers grabbing twin 320 mm steel brake discs. Cornering ABS is standard equipment as is cruise control and while no mention was made about riding aids, we assume traction control and ride modes is included in the electronics suite.

The 800MT Touring also comes with an up-and-down quick shifter, type pressure monitoring system, steering damper, hand guards, heated grips and heated seat, features omitted from the 800MT Sport. Also standard for the Touring is an engine sump guard and centre stand, with the 800MT Touring having a model variant with keyless start.

Seat height is set at 825 mm across the 800MT range and weight is claimed to be below 231 kg, with fuel carried in a 19-litre tank. Inside the cockpit is a 7-inch TFT-LCD screen with Bluetooth connectivity to the rider’s smartphone and navigation function.

For Malaysia, competition in this market segment includes the Benelli TRK802 and the Yamaha Tracer 900 while rivals from the continent include the Triumph Tiger 900, BMW Motorrad F850GS and the Ducati Multistrada 950 along with KTM’s own Adventure 790/890. With regards to pricing, Paultan was informed that efforts are being made to bring the CFMoto 800MT in at “around RM50,000, maybe a little lower.”

It says the bike will come to Msia first in early 2022. To what or whom do we owe that honour?

CFMoto To Launch 800MT Adventure Tourer In Malaysia Soon

A premium yet affordable option in the middleweight ADV segment.

By: Enrico Punsalang

Earlier this year, Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CFMoto made international headlines after unveiling its most powerful and most technologically advanced motorcycle to date—the 800MT. For several years now, the company has been working with KTM in developing new bikes for the Austrian company, as well as handling manufacturing duties in China and neighboring countries.

The CFMoto 800MT serves as the first fruit of the partnership between the two companies as far as product development is concerned. The middleweight adventure bike is based on the same platform as KTM’s 790 Adventure, but has been packaged as a more affordable, bare bones alternative to the Austrian adventurer. Ever since the start of development of the 800MT, CFMoto had purchased the rights to KTM’s LC8 parallel-twin motor, as well as the 990cc V-twin that used to power the earlier generation of Super Duke.

Upon the launch of the 800MT in CFMoto’s home country of China, the rest of the world—particularly the Asian market—was eager for this new adventurer to venture over into their respective markets. At last, the CFMoto 800MT will be making its debut in the South East Asian market starting with Malaysia. Considered as an automotive manufacturing hub in the region, market trends in Malaysia tend to be followed shortly after by its neighboring countries. That being said, it won’t be surprising to see the CFMoto 800MT venture into neighboring markets such as Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines sometime next year.

CFMoto is expected to officially unveil the 800MT in the Malaysian market early in 2022, with speculation suggesting that the bike will fetch a price of around RM 50,000, or the equivalent of around $12,000 USD. When launched, it’ll put up a fight against the likes of the Yamaha Ténéré 700 and Suzuki V-Strom 650, and likely make for an enticing step up from the 650 class of adventure bikes.

Now officially listed on CFmoto Australia's website.

https://www.cfmoto.com.au/model/800mt-touring

I think I read somewhere that CFmoto's KTM production line would have been up and running by now (Q2 2021). Reports are saying they'll take over the remaining production of the 790 Adv before making the upcoming 750 series.

That kind of explains why the 800MT shares a lot of the 790 Adv's electronic wizardry such as the 2-way quickshifter, Bosch cornering ABS, Bosch ride-by-wire throttle etc.

The whole lot probably come together with the LC8C engine, straight off the 790 Adv's production line. And that really ups the value proposition.

Anyway thanks to the OZ website, we now know exactly the diff between the basic Sport model vs the Touring model:

The cheaper Sport model has

1) No skid plate
2) No centrestand
3) No handguards
4) No spoked rims
5) No heated grips
6) No TPMS
7) No keyless ignition
8) No steering damper
9) No 2-way quickshifter
10) No cornering ABS

In my book, none of these is a deal breaker...! They're either completely unnecessary or can be added on once the aftermarket industry kicks in.

Still, it's good to know that even the Sport model retains the 7" TFT dash, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in satnav with downloadable app, Bosch ride-by-wire tech, riding modes (street, rain & off-road), cruise control, spot lights, adjustable KYB suspension, slipper clutch, 95 horses + 88nm torque.

Official 225kg wet weight is surprisingly competitive, which is a departure from the norm as Chinese bikes tend to be very porky for their class. Ground clearance is exceptional, only 10mm shy of KTM 790 Adv's 200mm, while the KYB suspension travel front & rear match V-strom 650's rear at 160mm the latter's front loses by 10mm and they seem to be fully adjustable for both preload & damping.

Interestingly... since the specs match up perfectly, I highly suspect the J. Juan brakes used in the 800MT are also the same items used in the 790 Adventure - on the KTM bike, they're branded KTM but the OEM manufacturer is... yup, J. Juan. I bet a whole load of KTM parts will fit... so the moniker 'the Chinese KTM 790 Adv' might actually be very close to the truth after all.

Bottom line, the numbers and spec listed on Australia's official CFmoto website look very, very, very good indeed!

Me, it's that fat, juicy 88nm torque I'm so crazy about... that's Tracer GT & Tiger 900 territory!

Starting to feel sorry for Suzuki & Kawasaki for being honest & sticking with their 650cc engine to stay in the 'middleweight' category, when the rest of the competition have outright cheated by digging out at least 200cc more.

Deliveries have started. Seen photos out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic of this bike being brought out of the shipping crate.

Anyway, here's a video of somebody explaining the diff seat height settings available with this bike. What I'm particularly interested in however are the innards under the seat -- the airbox with the slide-in air filter look like they could be the same as the ones found on the KTM 790 Duke. The overall layout looks the same, except the battery is a little further down the tail. Wonder if aftermarket KTM air filters will fit...

The seat height could be a potential deal-breaker. The V-strom has about the same seat height but it is manageable because the seat is narrower due to the smaller width of the v-twin engine (plus the seat itself has a shit ton of foam that can be cut away and reshaped for short riders). This one is noticeably wider which could make reaching for the ground more challenging.

CFmoto 800MT tank range test.

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1N44y1z77y...d_more_video.-1

TLDR: They covered 943.6km using 42.7 litres of fuel, which works out to an average of about 4.5 litres per 100km.

With 19 litres in the tank, that gives this bike a healthy theoretical tank range of 420km.

The guy mentions that the bike has "no TC". I assume he means it has no traction control?

The OZ website clearly says it has 3 riding modes + ABS. I guess CFmoto isn't paying Bosch for that extra few lines of programming code to get TC until there's demand for it.

Funny nobody is making any mention of the phone app + Bluetooth integration and satnav, which are among the key stand-out features of the bike.
