Did the charger spec state anything about USB PD? If not, it might not charge your Macbook.

It is charging. No issue with the charging. Just that I worry it might damage the battery only

Check the recommended PD wattage for your Macbook.

I doubt it will damage the battery, but if its under the recommended wattage as under wattage will not have sufficient power to drive the components - but I doubt it for the M1 Macbook Pro because it’s relatively low-powered vs the 16 inch as you have alot of components to power such as the i7/i9 chip (power hogs) and the GPU.

Speaking from experience as I previously used a 90w PD cable from my monitor to drive my 16 inch MBP i9, thou default cable is 96w. The power is okay but sometimes you can see it will struggle a bit.

yea, usually with my MacBook Pro 15", FaceTime/watching movie on the bed would burn my body while the M1 was doing Xcode installation and FaceTime at the same time for half an hour only dropped like <5% battery and it's still cool at 30+ celsius..seriously amazing

This rumour has been going on for a year already but it totally makes sense.
Pro Models maintain 14" and 16"
Consumer models 13" for the Macbook Air

Apple is very conservative when it comes to ETA. Their orders almost always will arrive earlier than the estimated date.

https://www.zdnet.com/article/how-bad-is-th...ailure-problem/ - How bad is the M1 Mac's SSD failure problem? -
If your M1 Mac's SSD fails, you can't boot off an external drive, a change from past decades. Here's the problem and strategies to manage the risk. - By Robin Harris for Storage Bits | April 8, 2021
"All storage fails. The only question is when. For critical data: LOCKSS. Lots Of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe.

I've relied on daily bootable backups to keep my business running for over 15 years. But the new M1 Macs have eliminated that option. The M1 Mac SSD is a Single Point of Failure (SPOF) ...

But no more. Your M1 Mac may not boot at all if the system drive fails, external drive or no. And, as I noted earlier, all storage fails.

Locking down the boot

To keep malware off Apple Silicon macOS (& iOS), Apple is locking down the macOS boot process. The M1 boot process requires a working SSD to boot macOS. The SSD contains a Signed System Volume that is cryptographically sealed by Apple. No seal, no bootable System.

So if the internal drive on your M1 Mac fails completely, even an external bootable drive won't boot. Yep, your Mac is bricked. ..."

.

Looks like if the internal SSD of the M1 Macbooks fail, the laptops "change or progress" to become bricks. Maybe the only way to unbrick the laptops is by sending them to Apple for costly internal SSD replacement.

After 3 weeks of using MBP M1 (first macbook)
Its now safe to say that I cannot go back to Windows laptop for work anymore.

Performance, battery life, reliability, etc. All in a different league.
