Cannot dual boot but can run Win 10 arm Technical Preview in Parallels 16.5. But for some reason my Microsoft Store has disappeared.

I don't think there'll ever be an Apple sanctioned dual boot again. For Windows only apps, I use mostly Crossover or Wine if you prefer free. Parallels just for fun.

My job requires Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Microsoft Office, is it ideal to go with M1 MBP?

Was thinking to get the Intel version but everyone around me keep keep advise me go for M1 model without regrets.

Photoshop 22.3 is M1 native and seems to be performing quite well. I can't personally say as I have only occasionally used 22.3 ahem version through Rosetta. Still quite fast though.

Premiere Pro is not but despite that, is working well under Rosetta. I think PPro M1 won't be too far away.

Office suite is mostly native already. OneDrive is not but the main apps are. Also keep in mind that Excel Mac is missing some things.

Anyway, IMHO, current Intel processors are dead-ends. Consequently Intel Macs are also that. At least on PCs, you can still opt for AMD (if you can find one).

Keep in mind that Parallels runs Windows 10 ARM not x64. Regular x64 Windows apps won't run on it so this is not an option if you use specialized Windows apps that don't have an ARM binary.

Had read this article regarding adobe apps, they mentioned this: 'The apps may initially take longer to open while Rosetta 2 translates them for use in your M1 computer.

So means only the first time starting Premiere Pro will be slightly slow right?

For MS Office I will be only using Word and Powerpoint so Excel things won't me issue for me.

Guess will be settle for 16+512 sooner because my old MBA 2014 is giving up soon. sweat.gif

Btw my sister is currently study in Uni so can I take her advantage to order via K12? But she already got one Intel MBP via K12 too.

Yep, it only does that the very first time you open it. I think that's when it does the x86-M1 translation. It also happens after every MacOS update. Probably bcos Rosetta 2 got updated?

I just upgraded to 11.3 beta 8 so I timed PPro 14.9 launching:
First time: 1 min 9 secs
Did a few other things then tried again later: 7 secs
After restart: 25 secs

I think 16/512 is nice sweet spot for MacBooks. My Mac mini, I went with 16/256 and added a 2TB Thunderbolt external. But personally I won't buy a MBP unless you need the extra battery life, fans and TouchBar. Cos all 3 M1 models now are basically the same performance. If really want a Pro machines, maybe wait till next week's Apple Event to see if got any M1X announcements.

Not sure about 2 MBPs but I bought 1 MBA and 1 mini with my daughter's edu.my email.

Actually the current Win 10 ARM can emulate x86 and x86_64. Previous versions could only do 32-bit. So 64-bit Windows Intel apps are good to go but emulated.

But Parallels M1 has a limitation that it'll only do 64-bit Windows apps, 32-bit tak boleh.

The last problem is that Win 10 ARM is not actually available for purchase but it can be activated with a normal Win 10 key.

Wow that's pretty impressive ohmy.gif

Tomorrow going to take a look at store then order online.

I don't need the fancy touchbar actually but MBA doesn't have fan, I just can't accept laptop without fan if not I will just settle with it since cheaper price laugh.gif

Do be wary that, Rosetta 2 apps might have memory leak (it could be due to the app itself). I'm using Azure Data Studio which runs via Rosetta 2. After a few sleeps, the app performance is really bad, even after restarting the app. Usually after rebooting PC, then performance is back to normal.

So take note of that.

Actually that is what thing I wanted to know. With the M1 chip is the Macbook able to run the x86 virtual machines and Docker images without any issues? If I am not mistaken, QEMU is used for virtualisation on macOS.

I am also curious to know if the 2021 MacBook Pros are going to be available in different colours like the iMac.

unlikely, macbook air (lower end device) may come with more colours, but macbook pros likely to remain as standard colours only.
seems to the trend for apple, iphone pro/pro max vs iphone/iphone, iMac 24-inch vs iMac 3x-inch?, ipad air vs ipad pro etc....
