My macbook screen is broken and I'm thinking to replace it now. Asked authorised apple dealer and they quoted more than RM2k so a bit pricey for me. Checked in the shopee and found a replacement part from China so I need a suggestion whether to replace the entire screen or just LCD panel? I read the review some said if you want a true tone back then just need to replace LCD panel only. Any suggestion?

Updating the only mbam1 (base 7-core GPU) in the house to Tahoe. Hope it's ok. cos I felt a bit of lag with the mbam4.

I have a MBA M1 since 2022.. and last 8 months also have a MBP 16” M3
Web, slack, WhatsApp, browser, g docs, g sheets, g slides… all work on M1.. the difference is you cannot open so many tabs/windows on the MBA.. it’ll slow down.. Working on a desk, MBP 16” is superior simply cause of the screen. If you use external monitor with the MBA M1 same same. I don’t do rendering, coding, process videos… tbh.. M1 is more than enough. And due to the form factor it is what I usually grab when not at a work desk. I had the first unibody MBP 13”… and that was very long lasting. man this MBA M1 reminds me the same. I bought it in 2022… after the M2 MBA launch disappointed me.. too little improvement. If I am not at a desk I grab the MBA M1 over the MBP 16” all the time… Should you still consider a MBA M1 in 2025 or 2026? Yes, if your usage pattern is like me… |

Best we can get is 8/256 or 8/512. M1 is good chip , but the ram will be a limiting factor. All the tasks you say, a 2nd hand Thinkpad can handle for 1/2 the price and better specs (R5/R7, 16/32GB Ram, 512GB/1TB SSD) The other option I have seen on Laz/Shopee is 1. M2 16/1TB - May be good, but is already 3 years old at this point. Means can get support another ~3-4 years 2. M3 24/512GB - Released in 2024. About RM500 cheaper than M4 air 3. M4 24/512GB - Released this year. Need to wait for a good sale only can snipe. But, M5 air maybe coming out next March. Then the price for M3 and M4 air will also drop a bit. |

Strongly agreed. It all comes down to the price:performance ratio. If the price is really2 cheap then its another story. Otherwise in 2025, better get latest version. Better hardware and performance overall.Otherwise, not recommended. Dunno what you guys do on your MBA M1 to feel you need more ram. Under no circumstances I need to pull out my MBP 16” M3 I typically keep WhatsApp and browser with 10 tabs open. That’s all. Don’t see the need to upgrade the MBA M1 anytime soon. Haven’t seen Apple intelligence being of any use… if it is then will need more RAM for sure. But until then… This post has been edited by Jason: Oct 28 2025, 01:04 AM eikozai liked this post

I have been using my M1 MBA with 16GB RAM for heavy excels. Did feel a bit sluggish these days when churning out my data.I typically keep WhatsApp and browser with 10 tabs open. That’s all. Don’t see the need to upgrade the MBA M1 anytime soon. Haven’t seen Apple intelligence being of any use… if it is then will need more RAM for sure. But until then… Other than that, for casual usages, its still feels pretty solid. Thinking to get a MBP M5-Pro when its released next year. This machine served me well since late-2020, and still rocking everyday. |
