Joined the MacBook family smile.gif bought a 4 year old 96% battery M1 16/256 @ 1.7k.

Was contemplating between used M1 16/256 <2k. New M1 8/256 2.35k. New M3 16/256 at about 3.5k / 4k. New M4 16/256 at 4.06k with education.

Waited and waited but M4 is so slow and the market price for all M1 and M3 didn’t move at all. Most in market used is also 8gb only with ridiculous pricing. New m2 / m3 with 16gb also more expensive than the upcoming m4.

No regrets with my M1 16/256. So snappy and good battery life.

So nice finally get to tie all my products together with MacBook Air M1.

iPhone mirror on Mac. iPhone notification on Mac
Keyboard and trackpad controlling iPad.
Can extend display to iPad
Can extend display to Apple TV.

So fun and trying to build my workflow with my first MacBook.

Where did you get 16/256 M1? Shopee/Lazada still listing M1 8GB M1s for 3k.

I have a MBA M1 since 2022.. and last 8 months also have a MBP 16” M3

Web, slack, WhatsApp, browser, g docs, g sheets, g slides… all work on M1.. the difference is you cannot open so many tabs/windows on the MBA.. it’ll slow down..

Working on a desk, MBP 16” is superior simply cause of the screen. If you use external monitor with the MBA M1 same same.

I don’t do rendering, coding, process videos… tbh.. M1 is more than enough. And due to the form factor it is what I usually grab when not at a work desk.

I had the first unibody MBP 13”… and that was very long lasting. man this MBA M1 reminds me the same.

I bought it in 2022… after the M2 MBA launch disappointed me.. too little improvement. If I am not at a desk I grab the MBA M1 over the MBP 16” all the time…

Should you still consider a MBA M1 in 2025 or 2026? Yes, if your usage pattern is like me…

Only if it has 16GB and 512GB storage, but those are very rare in MY. Best we can get is 8/256 or 8/512. M1 is good chip , but the ram will be a limiting factor.

Otherwise, not recommended. All the tasks you say, a 2nd hand Thinkpad can handle for 1/2 the price and better specs (R5/R7, 16/32GB Ram, 512GB/1TB SSD)

The other option I have seen on Laz/Shopee is

1. M2 16/1TB - May be good, but is already 3 years old at this point. Means can get support another ~3-4 years
2. M3 24/512GB - Released in 2024. About RM500 cheaper than M4 air
3. M4 24/512GB - Released this year.

Need to wait for a good sale only can snipe.

But, M5 air maybe coming out next March. Then the price for M3 and M4 air will also drop a bit.
