thinking of 1 day setting up a racing rig, wonder how it looks with VR, some say the resolution is mediocre while some say trade off the immersion felt much better. wonder anywhere that we could exprience the headset.
Quest 2 just got released last week. anyone tried the Quest 2? how was it?
planning to get a VR headset someday. a lot of models aside from Quest 2 but not sure which one to get. any good recommendations? no specific budget.
i own quest 1 quest 2 more speed, high fps, lighter than quest 1 but cheaper than quest 1 but quest 1 use oled while quest 2 using LCD u can play standalone or connect to PC (not potato PC) using oculus link n play vr game from steamVR
quest 1 price is 399USD while quest 2 price 299USD
Watch the video, the guy played Wireless, even went inside his car to test LOL. Link cable might not be necessary, you can purchase 3rd party cables for cheaper also.
Most reviews recommend the Elite Strap.

thanks for the details. quest 2 looks very promising indeed. the oled vs lcd part, i never try oled/lcd for VR before. i assume LCD looks better?

i'm at Malaysia. i'm thinking of buying it off from Lazada vendor at first. but it seems amazon one is a lot cheaper. what the heck!

Apparently they have issues with drivers, from what I red from Reddit, where Oculus require you to register in order to get drivers. Seems like a f*cked up business model to me.
You have the Quest 2 now? How is watching shows or movies on Quest 2?
Movie depends on the quality of video I watch some 360 movie its a bit pixelated probably because low quality
I watched trailer of freddie kugar 3d video is quite realistic that i close the video asap
Havent tried watching movie that oculus stream at bigpicture yet
But for games i guarantee you quality is awesome coming from cv1. No more screen door, god rays and i like the black just fine. But if you came from quest 1 you'd probably hate the lcd.
Received mine on 17th.. Bought from amazon.. Highly suggest you bought the Elite strap together.. I bought these two for around RM1800 directly from amazon.. shipping only took 4 days

Are you guys using it as a standalone device or do you also have a powerful gaming pc?
Other than occasionally booting up HL Alyx thru pc, I would say most of the time I'm using it as stand alone. It's just so convenient to booting up and playing games in less than a minute.

Want to ask, did your Quest 2 got the latest update v23 yet? Read somewhere that I can just sideload the update to unlock 90hz but don't want to risk anything happening to mine for now.

Thanks for the answer. Do you need to sideload any firmware to be able to play steam games like alyx?

Ya, just updated yesterday, but i did the 90hz unlock since day 1. No issues so far (hopefully).

Nah, No need sideloading for steam VR. You just need the oculus dekstop and steam vr running at the same time. Its pretty straight forward and easy to figure out.

if not wrong, however much you pay on amazon will be the final price (incl of import tax/customs/whatever fees). it was like that for my case.

Was it always that cheap to buy it from amazon directly? When I checked last month I think it was more than a 100 usd for shipping alone.
Cuba tgk local seller sell how much, second seller at fb letting it go at rm1600 coz muntah2 motion sickness
Shoppee the cheapest rm1900 i think
Amaxon on the other hand Im still waiting for mine to arrive. So long coz got no stock.
I don't mind waiting longer if it let's me save a few hundred RM.
But I've read online about some ppl who have lens issues. Fov so bad that only objects directly in front are clear. Let's say if we get a lemon unit, can refund from Amazon? International refund troublesome or not?

I hope i will encounter that. No warranty but within 7 days can return
im fairly new to this VR thing, so this is sufficient for me. i don't install much applications from the Oculus store. and most of the time, im hooked up to my PC to play VR games from my Steam.
it depends on your preference. but i definitely recommend the 64gb one as it is more than enough to play most of the good games from Oculus Quest Store

Need some info about the connectivity. My PC doesn't have USB-C. Can I still play PC games with the Quest 2 with USB-A 3.2 connection? I wanted to play flight simulator with it.

I'm currently using USB type C (connects to the headset) and USB 3.0 (connects to the PC). Not sure about USB-A 3.2, it should work I think.
Thanks for your info. I also put forward my question there, but I guess this is more of all Quest 2 thing. I think that should work, because I also have USB 3.0 ports. USB-A to USB-C to recommend or I can just buy those UGreen cables?

Most usb cables will work. I have a USB 2.0 1.5 m ugreen cable. USB A to C. It works but I ended up using virtual desktop cuz I bought it when it was on Christmas sale. If u have a decent 5ghz WiFi router it's a great alternative to oculus link

Hold up I missed something. USB 2.0 cables only support 72hz via oculus link. USB 3.0 cables allow up to 90hz. Take this into consideration b4 u buy a USB cable

Amazon US, no import fee and taxes. Is this cheap?
Yea, it's surprisingly cheap. I got mine from amazon US too. I spent the money that I saved by not buying from local resellers on apps / quality of life accessories. Virtual desktop, lens protector ring, GOMRVR halo strap and rechargeable batteries.

The charger can support here? or we need to use our normal phone charger?

You got the GOMRVR upgraded leather version? Did you get the leather face cover as well? You using which power bank?
Should i get this power bank to mod to halo strap? 5000mah no USB-C. Or get 10,000 mah USB C better?
Amazon US took forever for me. Amazon Japan arrived in a little over a week. Shipping is about the same with Amazon Japan being a little bit more expensive overall.

The upgraded leather version u are talking about is the one with the wider pad on the back is it?
No, I'm using a cheapo silicon face cover. Works well enough. Also easy to wipe clean when sharing with family members.
I haven't gotten the halo Strap yet. Still otw from Aliexpress. I'm not too sure if this halo strap needs any modding for comfort unless u want that extra battery life.
Plus there's just not much room to mod the powerbank onto the strap. The back has a dial that u will need to adjust each time u put on or remove it. And tying the powerbank to the top strap seems insecure. Idk. Have to try when I get my hands on it.

How many days was the delivery from Amazon US? Mine says out of stock but they charged my CC already hmmm.
Ordered on Dec 4, got it on Dec 30. The actual delivery takes slightly more than a week only. Most of the waiting time is for amazon to stock up.
Don't worry if they charged u early. Happened to my debit card too. Did some googling and found out that it was an authorization hold. Basically they want to check if u have enough money to pay them when it ships. In my case they charged, then refunded, and finally charge again after it's shipped.

I don't mind that they charge me early. But they gave me false hope lol, I was excited because I thought they gonna ship out already. I paid a bit extra for Priority shipping, hopefully will be faster.

In stock on January 26, 2021. Another 10 days
Yea. It did exactly that to me too. I thought they alrdy shipped but had some shipping info mismatch. Well there's not much u can do now except waiting patiently.
In the meantime, maybe u can do some research on accessories to get and keep an eye out for discounts on apps that u might wanna use later. I bought virtual desktop during Christmas sale even b4 I have the quest 2 in my hands lmao. And it was worth it. Until oculus releases a wireless link and infinite office, this is the best wireless solution on the quest 2, period.

I'm planning to use the Quest 2 as standalone for now, got an old laptop. Actually i didn't read up on the apps and stuff. Where do i buy apps? What is sideload? Virtual Desktop is more for connecting to your PC right?
I've ordered on 29th Dec, got it this morning. Just like everyone else, waited a while for them to stock up, the actually delivery time is only 5 days.
I didn't bother with oculus link or wired PCVR, went straight to wifi and I can say it works well. It's kind of crazy it can do wireless... I almost spent more money buying used Vive and Rift S which can't do that.
It took me a while to figure out how to set it up, due to not officially supporting SteamVR.

U can buy apps officially from the oculus store.
Sideloading is like installing apk on android or ipa on ios. Actually, the quest runs android so it's easy to sideload.
The most popular sideloading platform / community / tool for the quest is SideQuest. Lots of good free and paid apps on here. Plenty of devs publish their apps here initially b4 releasing on oculus store.
Yea. Virtual desktop is to connect to ur pc. U need decent specs to run it.

Yea. Virtual desktop is amazing. Just years ago I thought it was impossible without buying dedicated wireless transmitter / receiver hardware like the one for the vive.
I want to know what's VD like for u. Any lags or tracking stutter? I get them sometimes and I can totally live with it. The tracking stutter I'm referring to happens when u move in the real world. When it occurs, objects in vr are unstable and "shake" a bit. I've tried everything to fix it but I can only reduce how often it occurs.

The only game I have for VR is MS Flight Simulator, and it is a stuttery mess even without VR. It's playable in VR because the graphics settings are lowered, but definitely no where near smooth.

But the immersion it so worth it.
Ah, I'm sure my pc can't handle MS:Flight Sim. Not even in non-vr, let alone that. I think the desktop oculus app comes with First Steps and First Contact pre installed. U can launch those apps directly from the Games tab in VD on the quest
For those that used the Vive and the quest 2, how different are the quest 2 compared to the wired hdmi vive? Is the refresh rate at 90Hz or limited to 72Hz.

Hmm about Asgard's Wrath, it's not that I didn't want to claim it for free, but it's not showing up in my library or email. I guess it's smth to do with me not linking FB to my oculus account.

"Just make sure you have the Oculus PC App installed, use any Link-compatible cable (whether Oculus or third-party) to connect a newly activated Quest 2, and then check your Rift library to download the title at no cost."
Lucky you! I placed order on 14th Jan, 'shipped' 24th Jan but tracking no. doesn't work yet.
When did you order? Your tracking num worked on 22/23 Jan?
Mine placed on 17 Jan on priority shipping... on 23rd Jan it showed that my item on the way to US airport.... then today morning it show out for delivery, but until now no news.

Mine also on priority shipping. Unlucky that my shipped date and tracking is slow.
You still haven't gotten yours? Try calling them to rearrange delivery or pickup the item yourself at their centre.

Same thing happen, they delivery a day after, I got it next day morning. I totally understand your feeling haha! I spend the next 48 hours scratching my head setting it up for MSFS and optimising for best performance. At least you don't have to do that.

Oculus Support is responsive. They added Asgards Wrath to my library within an hour of my ticket. I did, however give them a lot of extra info such as serial number, screenshots and explanations.
Oh you've bought one and weren't charge tax? kinda tempted now. How is it for watching movies?
Although flatscreen movies are more immersive in vr, I think current vr lenses aren't at the point where it'll replace the experience of a cinema.
Quest 2 has a sweetspot in the center of ur fov only. It makes it hard to watch foreign movies with subtitles cuz u might need to bend ur neck a lot.
But, 360 or 180 3d videos, when it is made for vr, are a pleasure to watch. Even if the movie is just a standard 3d movie, u still get the stereoscopic effect.
Any suggestion where to buy in amazon? they settle tax as well? Want to jump into VR.. still a virgin
Buy from official Oculus at Amazon, maybe give a few days of wait for the 64GB model to be available, and maybe another month of waiting for it to be ship out.

Odd. Most of us who bought from Amazon US, myself included, didn't get charged for duties. Which seller did u buy it from? Is it shipped and sold by amazon or a reseller?
anyone have one ? tracking gooding or not ? ayam wanted to buy one after playing Beat Saber few times using HTC Vive
Tracking is good if not the best for inside out tracking. At this price there's no competition. Depends on what u are looking for. A standalone headset that also does pc vr (even wireless with virtual desktop) or a pc only headset.
If u have a good pc, maybe u should wait for HTC's newly announced headset. Who knows what HTC has in store. If its another standalone vr headset like the quest and priced reasonably, things will be interesting. May 11/12 is the release date.

i doubt it will be cheaper than facebook oculus ... hmmm
I got wireless PCVR working with Airplay with Quest 2 v28.
In MSFS, visual quality is definitely subpar compared to wired link, and visual will stutter/lag with Encode Resolution anything higher than 2352 in OTT. Since I can adjust FOV with OTT, the game performs as good as on cable, only doesn't look as sharp.
I'll try play Alyx soon and comparing it with VD. Currently I can't tell which one is better, which sounds like a great start for Airlink. Needless to say there's little reason to buy VD anymore.
Guys, how do i cast my oculus to my Smart TV? do not have chrome cast. anyway to work around to cast to my TV? i have a TVbox though, not sure if that would give an additional option.

Anyone knows any compact portable bag for Oculus Quest that have room for Halo strap? Mine after upgrade looks quite bulky, hard to find a bag that could fit in.
Hi guys, there's a question here that I think some of you may be able to answerand help . It's about Oculus Quest 2 and the best and good answers get rewarded by the poster. Do check it out!
so I'm planning to pre-order Quest 2 from Liang VR, and I'm looking for a powerbank suitable for it. I'm not sure which powerbank is "safe". any suggestions?

what did the invoice state? additional tax?
By right if you buy from Amazon its covered by their insurance..
i.e they ask e.g RM100 for shipping & handling ; if so happened kena tax additional let say RM50 ; Amazon will pay for it..

you dont pay any single cent
It's a bit hard to decipher the kastam invoice as I bought few other items as well, those also kena tax as total value for my parcel is more than RM500, seems my quest 2 is being charged 10% + 10% taxes, around additional RM280+ tax for the quest 2 alone, but I didn't need to pay for it
after reading the past few comments, some did kena sirim and tax, so I was prepared to request UPS to return the shipment if they decided to ask more money from me So it seems Amazon bear it all this time cos on the UPS invoice there's a remark "SHIPPER PAYS FOR ALL CHARGES"

yup, expedite shipping included It's a bit hard to decipher the kastam invoice as I bought few other items as well, those also kena tax as total value for my parcel is more than RM500, seems my quest 2 is being charged 10% + 10% taxes, around additional RM280+ tax for the quest 2 alone, but I didn't need to pay for it

yes if you read Amazon shipping policy.. they collected the tax on behalf..
if they over collected.. they will refund
if under collected.. they will offset the charges (no extra to buyer)

QUOTE
Calculating Fees When you order products from AmazonGlobal for shipment to destinations outside of the U.S. or from Amazon Global Store for shipment to the U.S., an estimate of the Import Fees ("Import Fees Deposit") will be levied on those items in your order. With your authorization, these funds are used by the carrier or another agent to pay the Import Fees on your behalf (or the recipient's behalf) to the appropriate authorities of the destination. The payment of import fees is the responsibility of the importer and is levied based on the laws of the destination into which the products are being shipped.
The Import Fees Deposit is an estimation of the taxes and duties that may apply. It can vary depending on the selected shipping method and the number of items you purchase. The final Import Fee Deposit for each individual order is calculated during checkout and will be specified in the order summary. The estimated Import Fees Deposit may not represent the actual amount paid to customs authorities. Customs regulations and tax rates applicable to certain goods may change between the date the taxes and duties were estimated and the applicable taxes and duties on the date of import into the destination country. The duty or tax rate is often determined by the classification of a good, which varies by destination. You won't be charged additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit we estimated.
Duties and taxes are calculated according to the shipping destination's customs regulations. Typically, this calculation is based on our product price and shipping, before any promotions. This allows destination country customs authorities to obtain the accurate import duties and taxes owed to them based on the actual value of the goods. For more information, go to About Customs, Duties & Taxes.
Import Fees Deposit Refunds If the actual Import Fees are less than the Import Fees Deposit collected by us on your behalf, you'll automatically be refunded the difference to the payment method you used for the order. You'll receive a notification e-mail confirming the amount of the refund. The refunds will be processed as and when we receive carrier invoices confirming the actual Import Fees. If carrier invoices are not received by 180 days from the ship date, you will automatically receive a refund for the full amount of Import Fees Deposit paid.

I'm aware of that, the thing is if you buy the Oculus alone, they didn't collect the tax in advance like other items they'll collect in advance if you go check out now, you'll see it's zero tax

it called door to door delivery which no worry on custom simply hamtam ...
You will need your glasses in VR if you're short sighted. For bestconfort get a prescription lense.
You mean prescription lens for oculus quest ? or the usual contact lens?
I read that they use the 'spacer' provided in the box, and some buy this in the link below (AMVR Lens Anti-Scratch Ring Protecting Myopia Glasses from Scratching)

Just not sure if they use spacer and this Anti-scratch ring together if they decide to wear their normal glasses?
If you want to wear normal glasses, then the best method is using the spacers provided, and the protective rings for added safety.
For me and many others who use VR on daily basis, we buy prescription lens that can be attached to the headset. Not only it protects the original lens, it also means we get max field of view.
I got mine from VR Optician Germany, but I'm pretty sure Liang VR sells them with a local partner in Malaysia at shopee and on garage sales

Thanks.
Since my astigmatism is bad, way worse than my myopia (short sightedness), will see if there is one for astigmatism.
In the meantime, will wear normal glasses and use both Spacer + Protective rings (The amazon one) together.

I was thinking getting the frame only without the lens, and get my local optician to cut and fit their exact prescription lens with my own preferred coatings to the frame

wonder will this work?
People on Reddit use their own 3D printed frame and get their optician to cut, so it's certainly possible. Not sure if it's worth the hassle and time.
I think I'll get few empty frames from Taoboa, and get the lens from my friend also is an optician I'm kinda very particular about my lenses, I estimate the cost is much cheaper than buying those premade one, with much better quality too

Oh, if got cable then ok lah.

2 Questions.
1) Do you guys use Link cable, Air Link or Virtual Desktop? (as a desktop PC user)
2) Regarding 128GB vs 256GB of Oculus, if I were to play most Steam VR games, are they stored on my PC's HDD or the headset?
Like if I buy Beat Saber on Steam VR, I assume it is stored on my PC's HDD right?
1. Air Link for PCVR games, VD for flatscreen desktop games. Note that you should have a dedicated router for best performance.

1. I use Virtual Desktop, fit better on my PC spec. Runs 90fps on PCVR game. Extremely stable.
2. But i recommend you get 2546GB version of OCULUS because i manage to consume more than 167GB inside oculus in just 3 weeks because of recordings and lots of side quest add-on. STEAM VR/PCVR are mostly store on PC HDD.
You can get stand alone Beat Saber on Oculus, but you can also go for Beat Saber PCVR which store on PC HDD.

You paid RM31 for Virtual Desktop on Steam right?
Another thing is that, does GPU affect the gaming performance? I assume only Steam games depend on GPU right? For example, Beat Saber PCVR depends on GPU, but if I buy Beat Saber on Oculus, then GPU doesn't matter?
(Currently using GTX 1660 Super right now, might upgrade to RTX 3080 in near future.)

Virtual Desktop on the Quest store is the one you would want. Try out Link / Air Link first since it's free.

I purchased from Oculus store, yes GPU affect gaming performance especially PCVR type game or from Steam VR that is why i avoid Air Link and cable from Oculus because it rejects any GPU below GTX1050 spec. Even with higher spec it still struggle. Which is why i ended with Virtual Desktop. But if you use Beat Saver from Oculus it will be standalone without needing PC.
Another thing I want to confirm regarding battery.
If I use cable to connect to my PC, then I don't have to worry about battery, since it is charging all the time.
But if I use wifi (AirLink/Virtual Desktop) or standalone VR, then I will need to use powerbank (buy new strap to put powerbank behind my head).
Am I right?
The discharge amount will still be higher than the charge amount so eventually the battery will run out, depending on what games you're playing.
If you want more freedom, a small powerbank and some velcro strips would help. You can stick it towards the back of your head for better weight distribution.

Will receive mine today I bought 256 GB version with Oculus Link cable. What should I expect in terms of setting it up? Is it really that easy for PCVR?

yep it's easy, just install the oculus app and setup the oculus account. Only thing that bothers me when i got my quest 2 is the headstrap, not comfortable at all, at most can play up to 30mins.

are there any essential accessories for a more comfortable experience?
there's that elite strap but I don't think I need it as I mostly use it for cockpit games like racing and flight simulators.

I used Halo headstrap, quite comfy after using for 5 hours per-session in a day.

Manage to unlock the headset internal DVR recording app in full HD and high FPS via ADB command. Here's the actual footage inside the headset, not recorded via OBS or any program on PC. But it eats lots of battery power.
