I dont know about the denons that u mentioned. but yams 661 able to accept HDMI PCM from bluray players plus apply processing on it (could apply DDPIIx, DSP, 6.1/7.1, bla bla) i only could explain it in layman terms... proceed to avs to go further This post has been edited by apisgogo: Jan 18 2008, 02:21 PM |

7.1 important if you have 7.1 speakers lor...
V661 can accept lossless PCM nia, cannot decode bitstream lossless but can matrix lossless 5.1 to 7.1 |

QUOTE(mpyw @ Jan 18 2008, 03:15 PM) 7.1 important if you have 7.1 speakers lor... IMHO, all these basic HDMI 1.2 amps should be priced below 2k, anything above is overpriced.. since it's 06/07 product design...V661 can accept lossless PCM nia, cannot decode bitstream lossless but can matrix lossless 5.1 to 7.1 so if the 661 is below 2k that's fine.. |

QUOTE(rx330 @ Jan 18 2008, 02:47 PM) can the 661 decode trueHD and dtshd ma? u know, after scouting @ AVS forum, i be confuse and lost than ever... but i somehow manage to grasp few things.its also future proof mar, im just qouting the author lar Added on January 18, 2008, 2:50 pmthe denons can receive as pcm, tats it wat we need is a player tat can decode the HD audio, and an amp tat does PCM, kaw tim, correct? anyway, is 7.1 tat important? as for ur Q, 661 definitely cant decode TrueHD and DTS HD MA. As we know, TrueHD, DTS HD MA capable receiver only decodes these HD audio in bitstream (bit-to-bit). Currently there is no blu-ray player could bitstream DTS-HD MA, except PCM (thru HDMI or MultiChannel Analog out). DTS HD MA players that could bitstream it is Pana BD50 which hell's knows when it will be launched. So most blu-ray (including our beloved PS3) sends this TrueHD in PCM via HDMI. (no DTS HD MA yet, god's knows when it is). So if the player send the audio as PCM to the receiver, TrueHD light will not appear. So, 661 able to handle this PCM audio and able to matrix it to 6.1/7.1 and apply processing (PL IIx, DSP, EQ etc etc). plus we could get Yamaha's famous DSP processing as well. Plus, DAC in 661 is Burr-brown, correct me if im wrong. Even onkyo 605 able to decodes TrueHD DTS HD MA (only in bitstream), it cant apply any processing on PCM audio. 705 can. hope this helps. as for 5.1 or 7.1, on my experience it quite impressive. Surrounds sound more depth. This post has been edited by apisgogo: Jan 18 2008, 03:47 PM |

I told Poki already, if he buy 2 can get cheaper, go and proceed.. meet my target 1000 bucks is fine how futureproof? well by saving you 1-1.8k from the other options (say like paying 605 at 2800 - whoever paid for that price la) |
