Some correct but not accurate
We have street road(2G), federal road(3G) and toll highway (4G)
Some tower previously upgraded 2/3 lanes of federal road to toll highway, so those tower 3G road can be upgraded to 4G road instantly after 3G shutdown (10mhz become 15mhz with just one click)
Some tower only has 1 lane federal road but been shutdown.
Then telco no intention to straight upgrade the lane to 4G due to need hardware upgrade + site survey + subcon + budget approval + local council approval + site approval + only can add L2100 if other spectrum is congested, so it becomes only 2G+4G for the area.
Also, they have years never expand 2G capacity . N been forced to build Street road within a year. U can imagine how nice is the road to be serving human.
Conclusion, telco just wanna save cost for everything .
I have a feeling Celcom is doing that. However what they did instead, my gut feeling, they reduce the 3G transmit power, increase or allow 2G to have stronger power.
Other telcos, like Umobile, they just disable the 3G data (dammit

) but leave the 3G voice signal on. So that the voice can fallback to 3G for the non VOLTE.
2G EDGE, is like 56K dial up era. Able to do simple browsing and quick Whatsapp but gotta have lots of patience. More like driving through kampung shortcut roads.
Please Celcom, dont sunset your 3G data.

Try putting up a night in Genting Permai. Dont need go all the way up.
On weekends and peak holidays, Umobile is congested. Even before Skyworld is launched.
