Legendary developer John Carmack, founder of id Software and the father of the first person shooter with classics like DOOM, has forsaken the PC platform as the "leading platform for games," which creates a curious subtext following the disastrous launch of the PC version of Rage.

The reasons are chiefly economical: while PCs may have 10 times the power of consoles, too much energy are expended trying to use the PC's vast resources, resulting in "an inferior product" trying to expend “a tenth of the resources on a platform that’s 10 times as powerful.” In other words, gameplay takes a backseat to technology. Not only does lead developing on a PC make a less interesting game, but the console versions are even weaker thanks to the limiting of gameplay for tech unavailable on the platforms.

One thing that bears out what Carmack is saying is that the biggest selling games on PC are games that require very little resources, like casual games, social networking games, and MMOs, which seldom require cutting edge machines

With the 8192 texture + anisotropic tweak, the game looks really good and no more texture popping. Runs fast too!

playing the game....and feel like just another disappointed game of the year with big title...no physis...and graphic just look too fake....cloud at the sky wont move at all.....

He should have just stuck to his aerospace endeavour instead of coming out with hurtful statement like "developing for consoles and forsaking the PC because its not economical"    Nooooooo
This game can shake hands with Dragon Age 2. Luckily I cancelled my pre-order.

In CCC, just force vsync to always on.
Edit: with the new v11.10 drivers you might not have to do this, as the release notes state "Automatic vsync" for Rage.

In the folder : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base\ create a file rageconfig.cfg (save it as "rageconfig.cfg" in notepad, with the quotes otherwise it will be saved as a txt file).

This will enable/force 8k textures and anisotropic filtering (no more blurry textures).

Make sure to also be using the latest Ati Rage performance drivers (if you're using ATI that is - like me). Latest Cat 11.10 preview drivers here:

Is your GPU custom cooled?

Mine usually last more than 5 years. All of them using third party coolers.
