Thread peel off and rot is totally different ya, a lot of premium tires due to softer rubber compound will encouter similar issues. Bridgestone, Yokohama, Pirelli, Continental also i seen some tire model also can treads peel off. FYI the outer rubber is way more durable than you think, if you dont want to see the peel off buy those budget tires but dont expect similar benefits.

Yes, for sure if tread only peel off usually just the outer layer. You know what is serious, only when you see metal shreds. If you never been in motorsports, a lot of them drive until can see metal shreds still running around race track before it burst (Usually this level you will see a lot of smoke, sparks and burning rubber smell). To reach that level you need to drive very extream which most normal users wont even can meet.
