can someone teach me how to install ktorrent on ubuntu 7.04 icon_question.gif super noob here
*
3 ways to do this

1.look for deb packages.
http://www.getdeb.net/app.php?name=KTorrent

2. use the add/remove under applications

3. but if you want to know how to compile from source:
first cd to your desktop
CODE
gzip -d ktorrent-2.2.1.tar.gz
tar xvzf ktorrent-2.2.1.tar
cd ktorrent-2.2.1
sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

if you are missing dependencies i suggest you use the synaptic package manager to find them.

You have to comment out the cdrom reference in /etc/apt/sources.list

0 before tor and 10 - 25kbps after tor, that torrent has 12 seeders and 77 peers
it was 0 the whole week and only after i switch to deluge it started running.
weird thing now is it sometimes just closes itself...
*
best to upgrade to the latest version of deluge. 0.5.4.1
in fact its even better if you get the SVN.less problems overall.
the instructions on how to download and compile the svn are on their website. its straight forward

looks about right. global max connections seem a bit hight but if your router can take it it should be fine. your "number of upload slots" is lame dude. up that to like 5. share the bits smile.gif

the new deluge-torrent_0.5.4.1-1_i386 had problem.. no selective downloads & compact allocation problem.. i had to revert back to 0.5.4.0..well it's a free stuff, and free downloads without vpn..so no complaint too much... tongue.gif

Added on August 25, 2007, 10:09 ammanage to hit up 100K/B all the time... no subscribing to VPN this month for me..

Its useless to close this thread. Like I said , TMNet can really do little or nothing at all. They can't just block ports. If they do , people will find alternative ways. Trust me , this is where people's mind start to work..
*
i think blocking ports wont do much for them. but im sure no matter how moronic they are they still have some knowledge on how to manage their network. patrick norton explains this in last weeks TWiT about 30 minutes into the show. he talks about packet shaping
http://www.twit.tv/109
TECHNICALLY..... if you are breaking someones encryption, thats invasion of privacy no? its something i dont want you to see yet you are using forceful means to look at it and affecting the outcome of my goal. i dont know, i dont do law but im sure you could sue someone on that basis

further explanation of your problem is required for us to help you. what OS, how are you running it, what torrent client, a screen shot of your settings would all be appreciated.

just started using ubuntu 2day ... using the vmware player with Ubuntu.

now trying the deluge and i am getting insane uploads which reach 60kps but the download max still 30kps+ ...
anything to boast the download speed? 1st day of linux-Ubuntu ... lolz
sry for the noob-ness questions
@praveenmarkandu
can tell me wat settings u using? i currently have (19)254seeds  30(268)leechers with 23+kps(dl) and 40++kps(ul)
i am a pure noob in linux  icon_question.gif
ps: i having problem with my mouse ... cant scroll ... anyway to fix it?
*
sry. if you think that im a linux pro you are gravely mistaken.
i dont know what the problem is with your download and upload speed. my settings are exactly the same as on my screenshots in on the first page of this thread. to be honest, a lot of things are MORE complicated when you run ubuntu virtually. things dont work out of the box like they do when you run it natively. might be due to the image vmware provides if thats how you installed it

my dl speed is only 5-50kbps...........
y i got no incoming connection?
deluge is not bad compared to windows...coz of the trottle but i tested on xunlei...some of the local peer is very fast then deluge...

Anyone can help me fix for the incoming connection?
*
if you have port forwarded correctly, then there shouldnt be a problem. from what i see, if you havent messed around with deluge settings, you global max connections would be default at 200. you have definately more than 12 downloads going at the same time. you are diluting your number of connections to seeders.PAUSE SOME TORRENTS. i get best speeds when i have 1-4 torrents running at the same time. i dont know how xunlei works, i know its p2p but what protocol im not sure.

until now, i still got seeder 20(20) and leech 20(20)

I see those ppl can get seeder 20(2213) and Leech 20(2999)

why ah?

i dont know who you are talking about refering to "those ppl"
it seems as if your torrents are connected to all the seeders and peers the tracker has to offer. not every torrent has 4000 users on it. if i wanted to make my own torrent and start seeding and you wanted to download it, there would be 1 seeder and 0 peers

AFter i enable th file sellection in the 1st preferences bar, It prompt to ask me which file to dl. But when i wwan to put dont download for certain file. It come out with alert say that.
FIle Priority can only be set when using full allocation. Please change your preference to disable compact allocation. Then remove and readd this torrent.

While i already put the file allocation to full allocation. And if i want to change it to compact allocation. It seems to be auto go back to full allocation after i open back preference. Deno why. My VM server only 10 gb. I cant dl a 19gb file if i cant choose the file iwan to dl..
*
you either have to downgrade or upgrade your deluge. best you upgrade. http://deluge-torrent.org/faq
use the SVN version. make sure you remove your old deluge installation completely. and just as a precaution you should remove the deluge settings folder. under /home/YOUR_USER_NAME/.config/deluge
but you can save the torrentfiles folder somewhere so you dont have to find them again

Finally installed Ubuntu and Deluge and I'm glad to say it works. I'm geting speeds of >50 KB/S.

I only wish Deluge had options like uTorrent -- e.g. Web Utorrent and the ability to track RSS feeds so I can automatically download my favourite shows.

It works great though -- is there an version for Windows or Mac?
*
i have to say the thing i miss most about uTorrent is its RSS. its so perfect. deluge has one but its far from functional.
it doesnt have webui yet but i used to SSH + VNC to my pc from work and manage my torrents.

are u sure?.. n what is wrong for them to come here n asking about their problem. At least they can learn sumthing from their mistake.. they also can learn about vmware n ubuntu at the same time.
*
there is nothing wrong
but as i have said before, by installing linux on a different partition it totally simplifies EVERYTHING

hmm, i think the alternative offered by blackamikaze is way simpler. install vmware player, run ubuntu, install deluge, run deluge through vmware player.... sry, but i beg to differ. sad.gif
hey, how do you transfer file from ubuntu (in vmware player) to windows? Once i've sorted this out, thats about all i need to know... THanks
*
alright, whatever floats your boat. i just had to shrink my windows partions, installl ubuntu, install deluge
i didnt have to find a way to get my network to work or find a way to transfer files using SCP. i just watch whatever i download on ubuntu itself smile.gif

If you people don't like using virtual os'es, try using andLinux. Its not a virtual os, and it runs linux progs on windows seamlessly. I've not tried it with Deluge though...

looks cool, its like WINE for windows, wish there was more documentation on it though. how do you install apps? im guessing the only way is to compile them yourself since packages wont likely work

wen i try to run it i get this error... guess i have to install python? lol, i find myself more clueless on windows then on linux now

===edit====
got it to work, just had to run it again, stupid installed wouldnt let me run it the first time. speeds are good
GG guys. you can kiss this goodbye. once its on windows, too many people will use it and i guess tmnet will shut it down.
kinda takes away the linux aspect to it as well.... which kinda sucks
