Bank Negara likely to cut OPR by 25bps at March meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd expects Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to cut its overnight policy rate (OPR) by 25 basis points (bps) at the upcoming Monetary Policy Meeting scheduled for March 4.

Chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the reduction projection was due to the visibility of economic uncertainties following the reintroduction of Movement Control Order (MCO 2.0).

He said the mobility restrictions would create a serious impact on the economy if it is further extended and the period remains unpredictable.

"Therefore, Bank Negara has to come in through an OPR cut. Whatever it is, all depend on the period of MCO,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Afzanizam said the projection has taken into account the COVID-19 vaccine -- a variable that is still uncertain to take place.

Anybody or everybody who is financial savvy can be one just that whether famous or not

The cut was already expected since last year when Fitch downgrade the ratings so it’s not surprising because the year just wanna weaken the ringgit now

Anything below 1.5% will be disasterous for ringgit and you can see ringgit will drop below 4.20

Time to buy more USD now rclxms.gif

Now happy but in 2023 gonna cry because Rate increase will be very swift to cover back the cuts

Malaysia anything less than 3% banks will cry because now loans take up and disbursements is also low as well

Demand for loans are less as well as deposits are drying due to all buying bonds and equities rclxms.gif

Received payout for Versa + overnight interest.

Not bad since only started a few days before I get dividends. Most likely migrate SA Simple funds to Versa after a few months.

Tried Allocate Plus but the app so buggy + so many problems just during signing in that I gave up laugh.gif Maybe after they fix the bugs and improve the UI, but the messy user experience is not worth it for me, at least for now.

So Versa return overperformed Simple™?

Too early to comment on returns laugh.gif my reason for migration is the faster withdrawal and the fortnightly dividends are more attractive to me. I prefer the liquidity of Versa over SASimple, because I'm using MMF as an additional place to park emergency savings.

Since I don't DCA from SASimple, there's no particular reason to keep it in Simple.

Edit to add: based on reading Bloomberg analysis PRUISIN (SA Simple) performed better than HWAEDEP (Versa) in YTD, 1y, 3y, and 5y return, so take that as you will.
