My worried is about loading money to the card with Cr Card smile.gif - replied from wise as below
When you set up a transfer and choose a payment method - credit card, on the review you will see the total fee we are going to charge you.

However, the bank that issued your card might charged an extra fee — often called a ‘cash advance’.

Some banks charge an extra fee when you use your card for a transfer. It works like this:

When you pay for your transfer, Wise assigns a number called a Merchant Category Code (MCC) to your payment. MCCs help financial institutions categorise the kind of payment they’re processing.

Wise passes this MCC on to your bank — it’s always 4829 or 6012, which indicates that your payment is a ‘wire’ or ‘money order’.

Once the MCC we’ve assigned reaches your bank, they can choose how to charge for it. Some banks charge a fee for certain MCCs.

For instance, banks sometimes charge your transfer as a ‘cash advance’ or ‘cash withdrawal’. And this could come with an extra charge.

Wise doesn’t support this practice. But unfortunately, we have no control over it. It’s totally at the discretion of the bank that issued your card.

To check, whether this applies to you please call your bank and check how they charge for the MCC assigned to your payment.

If they’ve charged it as a cash advance or cash withdrawal, ask them why — and explain that the payment was not cash-related. They may be able to help.

if you are loading money into you Wise using credit card, your card issuer will be charging you a cash advance fee because you are not doing a purchase, you are actually doing a virtual cash withdrawal from your credit card and moving it into your Wise card

Wise is defined by the card schemes to be sending MCC 60xx to the card issuer, these MCCs are all those ATM, manual and quasi-cash (gambling) withdrawals hence you will be charged a cash advance fee by the issuer, not Wise

waiting for bank to confirm but seem like an odd question but really curious to figure that out

On google -

MCC 6012 is used for Financial Institutions – Merchandise and Services and other similar services.

Merchant category code 4829 for Money Orders – Wire Transfer

Given Wise is charging in local currency, both shouldnt incur additional charges for conversion services

I did local money transfer to MYR years ago and I'm sure the bank did not charge me base on cash advance

There is no extra fees for using Wise in JPY for normal purchases and ATM withdrawal up to an equivalent of RM1000

But there will be charges if your are loading money into your Wise card using a credit card

You did a local money transfer using what method without any charges?

I am yet to get confirmation from my local bank but to clarify

1) there are two charges from wise - Wise fees and credit card fees
2) what I am seeking for clarification if there is any additional fees from local bank when I "add money" into the card with Cr Card

Reason, trying not to expose my bank account and I do have credit to offset item 1 smile.gif

last year back when I tried to add foreign currency into my Wise card using UOB CC, I got charged with Cash Advance fees

Now I've switched to Enrich Money, similar functionality with Wise, also got JPY in it, last I've loaded using local CC and didn't got charged with Cash Advance fees

For item 1, you are right

For item 2, it’s a yes as well due to the MCC which is sent by WISE to the card issuer
I bought my Wise card using credit card and was charged cash advance fees

Im planning to get Tokyo Horikuri Arch Pass as my return flight will be in Tokyo & I will be going to Karuizawa.
In osaka, I yet goes into detail on the routes but the plan is maybe get metro day pass like in Tokyo & utilise existing Suica if needed.
I got 2 days to fill for Osaka that yet determined as I've been scrolling thru for info. Maybe will just go for day trip that can use the Pass like Kobe

For those who bought JR pass online in Malaysia (let's say from Klook.com)

when you buy it, do you have to put down the date and fix the date already in the Paper Exchange Order?

Just as an example
Let's say i planned to activate on 18 January (7 days starting from 18 January).

But upon reaching there today on 13 January, i changed my mind and i want to activate my Paper Exchange Order for the JR pass starting from 17 January instead (7 days starting from 17 January).

I bought before many years ago but i cannot remember whether the date is indicated and fixed on the Paper Exchange order.

Does anyone remember or know about this?

what is redemption?

is it the date after you have collected the exchange order from the local agency?
