Nagano & Takayama should be switch around for making the trip more flow smoothly. I go better plan.

April Takayama hotel price will be sky rocket because of reopen of Tateyama Alpine Route. 5 night at Tateyama are too overkill unless you want go deep sweet travel style.  Takayama can reduce to 3 days 2 night will be far enough.

Tokyo - 5 nights
Tokyo > Nagoya > Takayama with JR Limited Express "Hida".
Takayama - 2 night (Shirakawago and Kamikochi with Nohi Bus)

Takayama > Toyama with JR Limited Express "Hida" and stay at Toyama 1 night
Toyama > Tateyama Alpine Route with "Toyama Dentetsu" until Tateyama Station.  Tateyama Alpine Route another side of ending will be JR Shinano Omachi Station. From Shinano Omachi Station take JR Local train to Matsumoto Station. Enjoy the beautiful Oito Line scenic View.
Matsumoto Station can continue to Nagano Station with JR Limited Express "Shinano".

Nagano - 2 nights

From Nagano > Kanazawa with Hokuriku Shinkansen and stay 1 night at Kanazawa.
Kanazawa > Shin-Osaka Station with JR Limited Express "Thunderbird"

Osaka - 5 nights - 2 days trips to Kyoto
Tokyo - 3 nights - kawaguchi and Disneyland

I find that many hotels in Japan offers self laundry room complete with detergent and softener dispersing machine.

Haha ok ba. Planning Sakura trip and also trying to figure out if I can do laundry or if I need to pack an entire 2 weeks worth of clothes. And if I can/should fit in winterwear for a gala yuzawa daytrip for the kiddo to experience snow.

If you booked those 5 star hotel. They got luxury laundry service.  500 per T-shirt / underwear & bra , 1100 yen Per dress & trouser , 3100 Yen per Coat / Sweater

That is true 3-4 years ago, after Covid in Tokyo, mostly have all adjusted to cashless payment.

Bus, subway takes Suica or mobile payment (japan phone or apple).

Restaurant, Shinkansen, limited express, hotel, supermarket, shopping mall all accept cards

Maybe a few small back lane restaurant or machine ordering food outlet like Sukiya etc, requires cash to insert into machine. Newer ones have machine equip to accept mobile payment, suica and credit card.

Almost all 7-11. Lawson or Family mart with ATM machine accepts international card for withdrawal (with fee)

I'm here in Tokyo for 2 weeks (today is day 8) I use only less than 8,000yen in cash to top up my Suica and pay for small back alley restaurant meal. The rest I pay with credit card. (my supermarket shopping, movie, restaurant, cafe, shinkansen, Tokyo wide pass, entry to various attractions)

If you plan go those 100 years famous restaurants, they only accept cash. Japan still cash society. New modern internet famous shop mostly accept cashless. All Japan convinence store similar like HK, they all can pay with Suica, Pasmo , ICoCA

I bought 72 hours subway pass and found out certain day, I only use 1 return trip (approx 300+ yen) and the rest I pay using Suica as it's JR line. There is one day which I have zero usage as the place I wanted to go utilize JR and local train (above ground), so wasted the subway pass.

Take JR Limited Express "Fuji Excursion" direct from Shinjuku Station to  Kawaguchiko Station.

If you want to hike that Pagoda. From Kawaguchiko Station take Fujikyu local train to Shimoyoshida Station. From station follow the sign to Pagoda.

Oh, btw, your trip got children, basically you can forget about Pagoda.

Mask required indoors almost everywhere and the further you are from the big cities, the more stringent.

I stayed at a small town Maebashi, breakfast in hotel must wear glove to take food and put in takeaway container. limited seating ( 5 tables ) as they encourage you to take back to your room to eat. Hand sanitizer at entrance , front desk, in room, in lift , on dining table and even beside vending machine in hotel lobby.

In Japan, there are very big PRC community that work or own business there. Those from China have not travel out yet.. maybe very small numbers dare to travel as the majority, their mindset about Covid are still in 2020.

Osaka amazing pass, unless u really cheong n visit all the free places ( some not free on weekends) I think just get the suica/icoca card will do, tap n use the transport

The only place that stated there cash only was at the sagano romantic train station, the rest I notice mostly can use card, oh ya market place I think also cash only
due to the weather, I accidentally walk to sagano romantic train station, try my luck with ticket, reach there 1.15pm, bought 2pm ticket hahahah, but don't dare take the boat ride back, too cold, so paid for return ticket

osaka itself is packed, I seen msians there, a lot of hongkongers and Taiwanese, Sporean a lot also, China ppl not as much

When i reach Shirakawa-go, those tourist area u can see them quite a lot of them didn't wear mask. I went there last weeks and saw tourists from Malaysia, HK, Thailand.

If you got JR Rail Pass. All you need is pay additional 1740 Yen per Pax at Shinjuku JR ticket Office. This 1740 yen will be including Train Ticket & Seat Reservation Ticket from Otsuki Station to Kawaguchiko Station. So you will get 4 ticket from staff at Shinjuku JR Ticket Office if you ride "Fuji Excursion"

Pagoda Hiking will be 1 hour + 10 minute walk from train station. Make sure you don't miss that Coke Vending Machine at Pagoda entrance. Inside got special edition coke (if still available  )

The train still got unreserved seat section. It become like commuter train, seat are 1st come 1st serve rules. As long u leave the seat, someone can take over your seat. 

If you take unreserved seat, you going save 900 yen from seat reservation otsuki - Kawaguchiko.  Shinjuku to Otsuki part already bao by JR Rail Pass, if take unreserved seat really rugi.

I taking JR Excursion 5 times in my life, it never full. Maximum passenger also 60% only. Normally the train only got 30-40% passenger.
