Kuromon: a well known tourist trap, razor sharp knife for tourist

Day 11: can depart to Yokohama in the afternoon, can drop by Ramen museum first, your kids should love it, then proceed to gundam factory before sunset, IMO that's best time to see the Gundam, you get 2 views in a short period, day views + night views

roaming pass just get from within Celcom apps, mine no problem last time

thanks for the warning. avoid kuromon then. just to confirm. by tourist trap, you mean their prices are cutthroat?

Ramen museum...i'm not sure my kids may find it interesting. i mean if not mistaken, we have similar museum in Malaysia at melaka...they were not as enthusiastic as me. sweat.gif

ohh..i can apply for roaming pass within the app huh. will check it out. thanks.

Day 3 you can add Den Den Town
Day 6 can add Pontocho as night activities.
Day 11 , Since you at Asakusa, you might well go Up to Tokyo Skytree.
Day 12, Akihabara alot scam, water are deep.  biggrin.gif  Make sure you do compare before buy anything.  (Except Bic Camera / Yodobashi)
Avoid Ramen. 90% Ramen in Japan used Pork Bone as soup based.
Ichiran Ramen - Ichiran Midousuji Branch & Nishi Shinjuku Branch are Pork Free.  The rest of Iciran branch are non Halal.

Den Den Town: ohhh.. 2nd akihabara. will it be better than Tokyo? will their electronic prices be cheaper than msia? i may wanna get an extra memory card or battery or anything that catches my eye there. haha.

Pontocho: i recall some YouTube vid recommending places for the river side strolling or dinner. the alley is mostly sake bar?

Tokyo Skytree: Noted. will check it out.

Akihabara: noted on the this as well from a YouTube vid. same product, wide price difference.

seafood and fruit price at Kuromon are known to be super expensive, wanna cheaper seafood and local fruits? buy from supermarket

Sorry my bad, Ramen museum is more for ramen fans, can try out different types of ramen in one place, very nice for photo ops, but I'm not so sure of their halal selections tho
more for kids is the Cup Noodle museum, the one in Jonker St Melaka is just a cheap imitation knockoff, can't hold the candle to the one in Yokohama. Can just google it and check it out, but you'll need to schedule your visit with them as they have different sessions daily.

for 12 days travel from Osaka to Kyoto then to Tokyo, which pass would you guys recommend me to get for a family of 2 adults + 2 kids (8 & 10).

just in case, something happen to my health, could i visit their clinic/hospital?

i may be buying a new small luggage back there to handle my purchases there. where should i look out for one? those giant big shopping mall? airport or just get one from msia since it's not much difference.

website indicate the weather/temperature may range from 2-10C. sounds pretty cold. but my colleague who been there few years ago claimed it's not even as cold as Cameron as the sunny sun provides the warmth. any comment?

is Feb really a low season? usj & most their hotel prices doesn't seems to reflect that. will it be crowded still? or even if there's a crowd, it is relatively low compare to peak season?

credit card is convenient but is there an extra forex exchange fee for each trxn? if yes, i would try to use cash for most/small amt purchases and only use credit card for high amt only. advice? noted on the Touch N Go availability. will there be extra charges as well for its usage?

IMO Den Den Town is much better than Akihabara, stuffs are cheaper there too, walkability also much better, you can easily get lost in Akihabara as it's huge! whereas denden town is more compact, easier for you to find the stuff you want and easier to compare price also, and their price aren't exploitative as Akihabara
pro tip: if you saw something that you wanted and it's already within your budget, just buy on the spot, don't bother go compare at other shops and come back. Chances are either you got lost, ran out of time/energy, or the item you want is sold when you go back.

pc parts are super expensive, not worth it, memory card also not cheaper, but best place to buy electronic is bic camera or yodobashi camera, or yamada denki, as you can get tax free from them, and can use additional 5%+ discount vouchers from visa, you can find those in Klook last I've check. I've bought Rakuten Kobo e-book reader for RM800+ after tax free + discount, compared to RM1200+ buying locally here in M'sia

JR pass is expensive now, IMO for your case wasn't worth it, just buy normal tickets
for Osaka, can buy the Amazing Osaka pass for some of the tourist experience, you'll save a lot from there, can get it from Klook

if wanna buy luggage there, most popular choice for tourist is at don don donki, tax free and lots of choice, but don't expect super cheap compared here, but you might find some good offers, and again there are extra discount vouchers for don don donki, just need to hunt around

if wanna save on CC forex charges, use the prepaid CC like Wise or Enrich Money, just top up your yen in there as use it normally like a normal CC, zero forex charges, and can withdraw cash from local ATMs as well.

Supermarkets will have both cooked and frozen seafood, best time to hunt for those cheaper cooked food is around 7/8pm, go early you'll have more choices but lesser discounts, later will have bigger discounts but lesser choices

cup noodle musuem, check the avaiabilty here : https://www.cupnoodles-museum.jp/en/yokohama/status/
usually you can just walk in but better check first in case there's a huge group

you can find Kindles at bigger electrical stores like bic camera, cheaper compared to here after tax discount
but IMO Rakuten Kobo is much better device if you don't plan to use their ebook store service, sideloading ebooks is a lot more easier and hassle free compared to Kindle, native support for cbz for mangas too!

look for tax free signs in shops, give them your passport when paying, they'll need to scan your passport for tax free, airport usually won't bother to check your tax free items

sideloading meaning uploading your own ebooks files like .pdf, .epub, .mobi or .cbz (most commonly used for manga/comic) into the e-reader, google is your best friend on how to

by average how much a train ticket cost within osaka/kyoto/tokyo?
100-300yen per trip?
is there a discount for kids below 12?

just thinking out loud - 300 yen = RM9~
back and fro = RM18 x 4 tickets = RM72
if i go 3 different places by train per day that would cost me around RM216 per day
12 days = RM2,592

am i roughly correct here? sweat.gif
