QUOTE(tslim2531 @ Sep 27 2007, 11:46 PM)
My 1520 operation :

Previously I've stated in page 15 that my LCD is facing bleeding problem, the coating of media button paint is peeled off, DVD drive noisy as well as Hard Disk having clicking sound all the time.

So, DELL ppl have came with all replacement parts for 1520 and ask me want to change what ?? laugh.gif Huh, it seems that they can almost change the whole laptop part without further checking of my problem. They ask, "which part got problem, we'll replace it at once!" Wah, then I complained the problem above and they replaced them immediately. They've replaced the whole palmrest, Hard Disk Drive(SEAGATE to HITACHI) and DVD Drive(NEC to LG). After they changed those parts, they started to take out the LCD which is bleeding. When they want to replace another one, they found that the replacement LCD is already cracked doh.gif So they said they will replace another 1 the day after that. They left me with a LCD cable before left.

Since then, I've heard nothing from them anymore. It's not until 2 weeks later then they only call me because they had left the cable on my hands (I didn't complain further cause the current LCD is still working perfectly at that time). They said that they have to come again to get back the cable, if not their salary will be suspended! It is very obvious that they have forgotten to replace my LCD, they wouldn't be coming if ot because of the cable.  shakehead.gif Only then they have come and replace my bleeding AUO LCD with another bleeding AUO LCD (AUO= AU Optronics). I think it is a common issue with those truelife LCD, I'm ok with it anyway.

For the Hard Disk, it still produce clicking sound every 1 to 2 minutes in quiet environment. Changed liao but still persists.

Until now the laptop works perfectly without any problem. The overall DELL service is ok lar, I've never tried before so this is the first time experience with DELL service.

Any 1520 user here use notebook cooler? what are your laptop temperature when idle and play games (mine is around 55 when idle and 68-73 when playing games) ?

Does this notebook need a cooler at all because it is way cooler compared with other model especially ACER.
I've tried VIGO NINJA before but the temperture is the same.
Anyone can tell your experience?  biggrin.gif

My Dell 1520 : intel t7100, 2gb ram, 8600m gt,120gb hdd, vista home premium

On top of a wooden table, air-con temp. normally 26 celcius,
CPU temp when idle : max 45 celcius
CPU temp when surfing simple webpages+playing mp3s : around 45-50 celcius
CPU temp when gaming (c&c3) after 2 hours : max I've seen when alt+tab is 70 celcius

Measured using RMClock.
Heat dissipation is good.
I thought of getting the cooler master notepal with 2 fans at first before I receive this laptop. After using this laptop for almost 2 months, I don't think I need to purchase the cooler anymore.

What I suggest is buy or borrow and use another cd brand such as Imation cd , let me know if you still having sector error.

Well, at the time I tried to insert DVD and check the content, the laptop couldn't read it. Same with another DVD.
Damn, that's one faulty drive indeed... Gonna get my docs and handle it to the service.
*
The dvdr drive not able to read some dvd content or All dvd including dell driver ?

With the spec above you are able to run most of the ultilities.
Ultrasharp WSXGA+ - Words would be quite small when reading
Alphine White - Depends on what color you prefer

Good to hear that you got your replacement.Yes , dell is really strict during the onsite service especially a must to finish fixing on the same day even it's over office hour.Thier service is far more superior than others.About the hard disk , as I know it's normal for seagate.Actually notebook cooler doesn't able to reduce much maybe a little by 2-3 'c and the temp you mention 55 is a bit higher.Normal temp will be 48'c or would be around 46-52 'c.No need to worry , if it gets higher than 58 idle just after 30 min you start your laptop , you can always call dell.

Oem vista does not need an activation key to active because it Oem certificates isa save on the BIOS.If you really plan reinstall vista , I suggest using the dell provided vista dvd.
