Hi all , anyone using MT Helmet ATOM SV ?
*
ive had it for a couple of years i think....feature-wise its quite good....but i really dont like it....its so heavy... i ride a naked bike and the aero on the helmet is pretty bad which forces my head to be pushed back by the wind above 140kmh hurting my neck, add the weight to that, ouch. wind noise is weird as its very loud on the left side only while the right is not too bad. build quality is meh, my visor will not stay up and will close halfway right in my line of sight blocking my vision.

when brand new, it seemed to fit fine, but after awhile the padding started to get softer where it wont fit my head shape again properly and there will be times when my head will hurt alot wearing it.

so i avoid wearing this helmet most of the time.

and i truthfully wanna sell it off as i recently finally managed to get enough money to upgrade to an Rpha90.

would highly recommend increasing budget abit and look at other flipup alternatives such as Lazer at LSH Racing World... anything around the 1.5kg mark or below should do fine.. the atom is 1.7kg

Hi all, sorry if someone asked this before, any recommendation for a ff under RM300? (Prefer some retro looks one if possible). Currently eyeing on the SGV Bubble Full Face (abit above RM300 haha..) would consider modular (LS2 FF370), but i heard complaints that modulars are heavier?

FF vs modular, which do you recommend?

modulars are definitely heavier as they have the whole flip up mechanism to add to the weight unlike fullface which doesnt move. they are also usually pricier

cant recommend any retro full faces coz i dont like them so theyre not on my radar

He could be referring to this story: https://motorbikewriter.com/are-modular-hel...afe-in-a-crash/
Interesting comments below, do take a look, particularly on the Nolan importer's comments.

Given that chin injury is one of the highest, really must latch on properly on a modular helmet.
IINM, some or few modular helmets are SNELL certified.

this could be just a one off fluke.... as mentioned, this is also the first report of a nolan opening up. but yes, i believe the angle of crash and impact location casing distortion is what caused the helmet to open up.

whatever the testing or safety ratings done, ppl need to realize that it should NEVER be considered as final... alot of ppl do this. its just a guideline.

just coz in a test by snell, ece, sharp or whoever says that its 100% wont open... doesnt mean it wont open in a real live crash. tests are done in a very specific way in a controlled environment... real life crashes are definitely not the same as there waaaaaaaaaaaayyy too many variables - chaotic environment/conditions.

In the comment section, a Nolan agent asked to inspect the helmet. It's no joke putting the Italian brand name up there. Too bad it happened, but luckily it seems to be very slight injury albeit on the face. Even Ironman's face shield got torn off couple of times, so it's a question of how reliable the overall mechanism and user latching it on, against the forces of nature. Between the two, I don't trust myself with modular helmets, haha. I believe no one wants to get caught in the situation of modular helmet failure, so personally if I should be asked, I will tell them to trust it only to a certain extent.

Can consider selling it off while it's still useable (within that 5 year window). So, it looks like a lollipop head once you put that helmet on? Or it just feels too heavy/bulky?

dont think its that easy to sell since the size of the helmet is XL but of course i would like to and purchase myself a full face instead of using a modular (newbie mistake, first helmet)
and yes it looks like a lollipop head and i ain't that small size either. sad.gif

These links are useful but hard to look for a certain helmet for my ride. I need a full-face helmet as my old one became cracked. I am glad you have shared these links.

Yup. I also dare not buy online cos the fit is very different with different helmets. 1 brand L size could equal another brand's M size (depending on your head shape also) so it is always very subjective and a trip to the shop would be the best option.

I wouldnt be caught with a half face or modular helmet for the heck of my life. Full face offers far superior protection but ECE or SNELL certified only. I had also seen lot of people trying to cheap out on helmet, yes ECE and SNELL rated helmets are on the pricier side, but from personal experience these things to save your life when it matters the most.
