Analogue TV in Batam is officially gone. Batam viewers can now receive MYTV DTT signals (from Gunung Pulai) without any issues as the interference is now gone.

Interesting Information...
Wondering too why there's missing link on 4 to 6 & straight went to 7....
Now I know šŸ™
*
We know what 1 to 3 means (TV1, TV2, TV3)

I guess 4 meant the defunct Metrovision (now 8TV), 5 meant the defunct Mega TV and 6 meant Astro? So that might be the reason for a gap between 3 and 7.

NTV7 is the seventh TV channel/station in the country, this might explain why they take 7. While Channel 9 (now TV9) was launched before 8TV/Channel 8, someone had already owned the necessary license for Channel 8 (the owners never bother to launch it before Media Prima bought the Channel 8 license outright) well before the launch of Channel 9.

But as linkinstreet said, it might be following the LCN sequence too?

We have the similar case for Singaporean TV where there is Channels 5, 8 and 12 because these channels used to transmitted on VHF Channels 5,8 and 12.

On Singapore's TV guide section (you can find it on NLB newspaper website), you can find TV1/RTM1 was at one time known as Channel 3 while TV2/RTM2, Channel 10 on the guides, even when it isn't called like that (all because of the frequency they used to transmitted from Bukit Batok + Gunung Pulai).

When the amount of channels grow, Singapore no longer names their channels based on the channel frequency. (CNA, Channel U .etc)

Channels 5 and 8 is now on Channels 2 and 3 on Singapore's LCN list. The name was kept as is because it is called like that since 1963 and nothing has changed in terms of names in English, Malay and Tamil. The Chinese term for both channels is modified very slightly after Mediacorp/SPH Mediaworks merger but the meaning remains the same.

"Channel 12" no longer exists (the frequency allocation was allocated to Prime 12, later Suria). Premiere 12 was launched as a spilt of Channel 12 to two (the frequency allocation was later allocated to Central and Vasantham.)

NTV7 used to broadcast via VHF channel 7, plus later on they capitalize on channel 7 number by copying ABC USA channel 7 circle logo

*
NTV7 on VHF Channel 7 (in Klang Valley) was added later for easier reception for older VHF antennas, which is still very common even after the start of Metrovision. This is evident when Media Prima is having an UHF antenna campaign with Senheng, before the then new 8TV transmission was due to start on 2004 (even when NTV7 is already on UHF almost 6 years earlier, and before that, 8TV predecessor Metrovision.)

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2003...tuningin-drive/

When NTV7 first started in 1998, it was exclusively on the UHF band, and in many areas the start of NTV7 means viewers need an UHF antenna for the very first time. Some areas won't need one (such as JB, Northern Peninsula Malaysia where there was UHF transmission from TV3). There must have be some reception problems due to the usage of wrong type of antenna, which explained the addition of VHF Channel 7 transmission in Klang Valley.

15 minutes delay of AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup is so obvious when you have direct access to live sports coverage on terrestrial signals of other countries (MediaCorp is broadcast the match live, RTM with 15 mins delay due to the contract with Astro.)

Ever since Astro started Arena 2 as a result of the closure of Fox Sports channels, viewers are clearly losing out (at the end, money matters for Astro as Astro is not a charity) since Astro clearly prefers to put sport coverage on their second channel (It is a paid channel on Sooka, and it requires a subscription on Astro/NJOI to access). This is even when the coverage is clearly available live on free to air RTM channels. Arena as a free channel on Sooka/legacy NJOI subscribers already means less promiment sports coverage on the channel.

MEDIACORP STRENGTHENS BRAND PRESENCE WITH LAUNCH OF REFRESHED LOGOS AS PART OF VIBRANT NEW VISUAL IDENTITY
The unified look of the new logos aims to drive all audience interactions and communications back to the Mediacorp brand to showcase the extensive reach of our entire media network.

Singapore, 16 January 2023 – As part of its continual efforts to deepen engagement with audiences, Mediacorp will roll out refreshed logos for its suite of digital, free-to-air and audio platforms and products on 1 February 2023.

The striking new visual identity will consist of Mediacorp’s ā€œMā€ prefix featured prominently in the individual logos, each rendered in a sleek, single or dual-colour scheme. This eye-catching design aims to drive all audience interactions and communications back to the main Mediacorp brand, strengthening its collective presence and showcasing the extensive reach of the entire media network through a harmonised and unified look. Please refer to the Annex for the list of logos.

In keeping with the rich heritage and strong brand equity Mediacorp has built over the years, the core design of each individual product has been retained but updated using a bold approach for maximum impact in today’s digital-first environment. This has been achieved by streamlining the logos using a modern and mono- or dichromatic 2D effect, while maintaining the composition and colour palette of the products – signalling Mediacorp’s continual evolution in staying ahead of new trends and technologies, while staying true to the brand that audiences are familiar with.

Together with the refreshed logos, Mediacorp will also be introducing the Mplifier, a new set of graphics to further amplify the association between the Mediacorp brand and its products. The Mplifier – a stylised upward-pointing arrow forming half of Mediacorp’s ā€œMā€ prefix that is meant to convey the brand’s constant strive for progress – will be applied consistently across all platforms, communication channels and marketing materials as a unifying visual cue for Mediacorp’s products.

Oliver Chong, Head, Marketing & Communications, Mediacorp said: ā€œThe bright new design of Mediacorp’s refreshed logos is a visual representation of our purpose as the national media network in delivering new experiences and compelling content built around our audiences’ consumption preferences.ā€

Added Mr Chong: ā€œThe design is fresh and familiar at the same time, achieving the best of both worlds – driving a consistent overall brand narrative, yet retaining the robust brand equity we have nurtured over the years. We hope the collective impact of the logos will reinforce Mediacorp’s role in engaging audiences across all touchpoints in their lives, and convey our constant efforts to connect deeply with our communities.ā€

To familiarise audiences with the fresh look, the logos will be soft launched on 16 January via on-air channel bugs, as well as via GIFs and videos across the respective social media platforms. These animations will depict the transition to the new logos, before the visuals are officially launched on 1 February.

The TV logos will have the most massive changes observed since 1994 (Ch5), 2001 (Ch8), 2010 (Suria), and from the start of channel (Vasantham/Channel U). With the new corporatized logo, there is no need to add "mediacorp" anymore on the watermarks as the M will serve the purpose. Feels like the return of the SBC era in the 80s when they use corporatized logos on their TV channels. The contents are still the same old offerings as they offers today. In 2 weeks time the logos won't be the one that we are familiar of anymore. Well if you are going to do a massive rebrand, why not do so on one shot on 15 February as it is going to coincide with 60 years of TV.

Radio logos are the least affected (in some cases, they just slightly modified it to include the M). Other Mediacorp products in Singapore can't escape the fate of being corporatized with a M too.

Interestingly, they didn't modify the logo of CNA/CNA 938 at the same time though despite the massive rebranding exercise involving almost all properties of Mediacorp.

Watermarks and ident packages for all Mediacorp owned properties (except CNA, CNA938) are changed overnight as planned/announced.
One thing to praise is the current batch of watermarks are the best ever watermarks Mediacorp has ever used (I hope they do become semi transparent white like the one on CNA). Before that, they are using full colour watermarks before being slightly toned down on the previous package. Please, no stupid watermarks like current time, programme name and so much on (Time to learn using the EPG, broadcasters!)

A player update means all Media Prima channels streaming on Xtra now has 45 minutes rewind feature. (Was a feature for TV3 only when they are using Dailymotion, which offers up to 4 hours rewind. A downgrade for TV3.)
However, 1080p is now gone because of this update (channels are streaming on 720p max) and the max bitrate is 1600kbps.
Well for me I prefer streaming local channels via Unifi app

Same thing observed on Unifi TV. I don't know what is preventing them from moving to True HD earlier when TV Alhijrah said they have the necessary equipment to broadcast in HD.

One thing left for Media Prima - when will TV9 move to HD?
Since there are more commitments now these days with more movies, sports and new religious content on this channel.

Didik TV and Wowshop can just left in SD, there are little initiative for Media Prima to even upgrade both these channels to HD.

Still SD-upscaling-to-HD quality for me as of now, on all Unifi TV’s Android TV, iOS & browser apps.

Still, a big improvement than what they have previously.

I would rather see them prioritise on upgrading at least TV3 and 8TV into HD quality on Astro.
That way, every Malaysians will get to enjoy the 2 high viewership Media Prima channels in HD quality, and no longer in SD quality on any platforms.
*
I don't know what is preventing Media Prima from upgrade TV3 and 8TV in HD on Astro. All Astro and vast majority of NJOI viewers have HD capable equipment with them. Maybe Media Prima (as a commercial TV company) scared losing out a few viewers which are still using legacy NJOI equipment, which only receives SD signal. But this awkward situation caused everyone on Astro unable to enjoy Media Prima channels in HD.

But then, RTM and Alhijrah has already migrated their channels on Astro to HD with no SD simulcast at all. (which results on few legacy device users complaining). I understand why Astro is keeping simulcasting selected SD channels (such as Prima, AEC .etc) for honor of legacy viewers.
HD is the way to go now and really SD broadcast should be long gone.

According to MYTV website, Gunung Telapak Burok and TM Kangar transmitters are now up. With the activation of these transmitters, MYTV has 46 transmitters covering major population areas in the country.

The frequencies are as below:
Gunung Telapak Burok : Channels 23 and 25 (490/506MHz) (SFN with Gunung Ledang, Bukit Tampin .etc)
TM Kangar : Channels 43 and 45 (650/666MHz) (SFN with Gunung Jerai, Gunung Raya .etc)

People who lives in Perlis/Northern Kedah and Negeri Sembilan/Southern Selangor/Bera areas may found their reception to be improved, if they reposition their UHF antennas to TM Kangar/Gunung Telapak Burok. Some people will be able to receive terrestrial broadcast signal for the very first time thanks to the activation of the transmitters.

Generally, a retune is not required for those in Perlis/Northern Kedah if you switch to TM Kangar as the transmitter in TM Kangar shares the same frequency with Gunung Jerai/Gunung Raya.

If you are switching to Gunung Telapak Burok however, do note that a retune is required if you are switching from Gunung Ulu Kali/Menara KL/Bukit Sungai Besi as these transmitters uses a different frequency as of Gunung Telapak Burok. A retune is not required if you are switching from Gunung Ledang/Bukit Tampin, as they uses the same frequency.

It is highly recommended to use outdoor UHF antenna to receive MYTV terrestrial signals because they will give the best performance. The signals are designed to be received by an outdoor UHF antenna installed 10 meters from ground. If you are using an indoor antenna, they might work if you live close to the transmitter but there is no guarantee it will work.

In case if you are still outside the digital terrestrial coverage areas, MYTV (satellite variant, gives identical lineup as terrestrial version) or NJOI (different lineup to MYTV with the option to purchase additional TV channels) are available as an option.

A great addition to me.
Well if this is the case, I might as well subscribe to their TontonUp service as I am quite addicted to Japanese content these days.

TV3 is rumoured to air an anime SPY X FAMILY after years on Sunday primetime. Hope that it is dubbed in Malay (and not subbed, the subbed version is everywhere.)

In fact, it is quite pointless to air foreign contents subbed anyway nowadays, as it is so easy get it elsewhere. Unless dubbed in Malay of course, which give some value to viewers. With dual audio option, viewers have such option to select the preferred audio, when necessary.

The technology is here (at least for digital TV especially for dual audio and multiple language subtitles), the country have switched completely to full digital mode, but FTA broadcasters choose not to use it for some reason.

The same issue for app. I don't see any options for subtitles, neither the option to choose quality.

Manis FM - A radio station for the East coast region - now added on MUX 1 on Channel 726. In terms of bitrate it is probably 32kbps HE-AAC V2.

According to Media Prima's Q5 quarterly report released on 24 May 2023, (Media Prima has changed their fiscal ending month from December to March), there are interesting things about TV ratings and share. (Source : Nielsen Audience Measurement)

TV3 remains undisputably as the leader, with an overall audience share of 26.3%. The overall Malay audience share for TV3 is 35.9% meanwhile for Malay homes with Astro, the share is 32.9%.

8TV records 11% overall audience share, which made it the second most watched TV channel in recent years. This is an record for this channel, an share that isn't recorded since the channel's creation in 2004. 8TV's status as the sole FTA Chinese channel in the country helps - as it recorded a massive 53.3% share among Chinese viewers.
Although there is a lack of local content on 8TV (which is necessary to promote local talent), they did achieve such ratings with a schedule which primarily consists of foreign content from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea. This is probably the reason why Media Prima choose to produce less Chinese local content for 8TV, as it could save money by doing so.

TV9's focus of moving from a schedule which mainly consists of WOW SHOP to a schedule which mainly consists of movies, children content, drama repeats, and Islamic programmes, helps the channel to achieve 4.6% audience share. Viewers are indeed coming back to this channel with their current lineup but this doesn't change the damage that has been done by Media Prima when they introduced WOW SHOP, which some still have the perception of FTA TV as a place on selling things such as pots.

On Media Prima's competitors, Awesome TV is the third most watched channel after TV3 and 8TV. This is despite the controversy such as biased, untrue news reports on their main news bulletin, Berita 7:57 and the channel is operating under the wrong license.

RTM TV1 and TV2 has 3.1% and 3.4% audience share respectively. This is despite RTM has tried hard on improving their lineup in recent years.

On pay TV side, Astro Ceria is the most watched pay TV channel with 5.5% audience share. It is also the forth most watched TV channel in the country overall The neglection of children content on FTA TV in recent years (in favour to WOW SHOP) has resulted the ratings for the kids segment being handed to Astro Ceria for free from the FTA channels.

Well, here is the TV audience share chart for the main terrestrial TV channels in Malaysia from years 2013-2023. Click the image to zoom in. Channels included are TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7 (DidikTV KPM), 8TV, TV9, Awesome TV. Other terrestrial channels are not included due to insufficient data.

Awesome TV data is from Q3 2021 (the channel started broadcasting on Aug 2020, and data is only available from that time).

You can see that TV3 is well ahead of its competition (including their sister channels). It is wonderful that the audience share remains stable over the years despite increased competition. 8TV is now on its all time high share.

Not included is TV Alhijrah, which it's audience share is <1%.

Made by myself by complementing the sources across Media Prima's Quarterly reports that is available for over 10 years.
