According to Media Prima's recent report, TV3 has almost 50% Malay 4+ share, while 8TV has 74% Chinese 4+ share. 8TV's strength is partially because there is lack of competition on free to air space - you can imagine how much share 8TV has if it is counted standalone via total share - I can safely say another record high rating.
Even though 8TV has very high TV share, these days people aren't just watching 8TV only - people consume content via other legal and illegal streaming platforms too.
Media Prima is stated to have 58% total audience share (mainly just TV3, 8TV and TV9 - it is unlikely that NTV7 will attract any audience with current Didik TV KPM format). Media Prima do not release shares of it's rivals on their report.
TV9 also have good ratings on their "Kuasa 3 Malam" slot, with 900K audiences.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...-cards-internetIn the future, it is most likely the technology to replace existing terrestrial TV (and FM Radio). The government has already show interest on 5G broadcast. This post has been edited by shaun_kok: Sep 26 2025, 08:32 AM

QUOTE(joshhd @ Sep 27 2025, 12:26 AM) Replace DVB-T2 with 5G Broadcast, I highly doubt so. If that day would to happen, that would likely be many decades later. From what I see, it's likely either both DVB-T2 and 5G Broadcast to be co-existed in Malaysia, or no public 5G Broadcast service at all (similar like DAB+ digital radio, until today no news). Since DVB-T2 is still quite new (around 10 years for the oldest part of the network), we won't see it being replaced anytime soon.

QUOTE(Feliex @ Sep 29 2025, 10:21 PM) Dengar boleh percaya jangan... Sembang semua ni. At this time, we don't even know it will replace the DVB-T2 infrastructure entirely - it is only in "test mode". Back then DVB-T was "test mode" for a very long time - until it is replaced by DVB-T2 entirely. Although I am confident that it can replace existing DVB-T2 - just not too soon given Malaysian "efficiency", or we might just stuck to DVB-T2 indefinitely.

QUOTE(MaybachS600 @ Oct 29 2025, 03:42 PM) Ok, time to convert 8tv back to telecast US stuffs like in 2005. QUOTE(Qash-M @ Oct 29 2025, 10:24 PM) "It's like it never left." Well, with exception of news and occasional variety programmes, almost all of the 8TV primetime schedule are imports from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.
