Wahed Invest Malaysia is here now. Any opinion on this? Hows the charge and all? Bank Negara Approved?

American-based Wahed Invest halal robo-advisory platform announced today that they have successfully obtained regulatory approval from the Securities Commission Malaysia to offer digital investment management services in Malaysia.

Wahed Invest is the 3rd to officially enter the Malaysian market after StashAway and MyTheo.

Citing its support for the Malaysian government’s thrust towards the Islamic Digital Economy, the startup said that it is set to launch in Malaysia and that it intends to make Malaysia their Asia Pacific Hub. Its APAC operations is led by Syakir Hashim, who previously co-founded the recently acquired student loan crowdfunding platform Skolafund.

Wahed Invest’s entrance into Malaysia is not surprising given the fact that it is a leader in Islamic finance, recent reports show that Malaysia produces 26% of the world’s Shariah-compliant financial assets, amounting to US$ 528.7 billion.

A quick check into their app shows that the services are yet to be available to Malaysians but Fintech News Malaysia expects that an announcement of their product launch will come in the weeks to follow.

I was initially fond of the idea of a shariah based robo advisor, but i don't like that they have Malaysian stocks in the portfolio (except for very low risk allocations). Wish there was an option to load up the equity allocation with US/global stocks only.

Hows the fx transaction costs compared to SA/MT?

lol I deposited Rm100 in SAMY, Wahed, and MyTheo at the same day (almost same time as well )

Status:

1) SAMY: First deposit just reflected in my portfolio today
2) Wahed: Deposit was in day after payment made, progress + 1.01% after 3 days
3) MyTheo: Deposit was in day after payment made, progress - 1.11% after 3 days

Unlike other robo-advisor who have 30-40 ETFs, Wahed has only 4, because there are not a lot of shariah complaint ETFs out there in the market.

For US equities, they will be deploying their own ETF, which you can find here:

Seeing that their top holding, Apple, issued their own credit card which has interests, you ownselve judge where it is shariah compliant or not.

For Gold they deploy this Gold Tracker: https://www.tradeplus.com.my/

MYR equities, im not entirely sure, but it should be local shariah complaint funds, not individual equity.

So for your different risk allocation, it's just different weightage on these 4 instruments. No different instruments for different profiles.

Talked to the Malaysian branch head, used to work for PNB, seem to be steady fellow. But for the founder himself...meh

Need to study the holdings and understand what etf each platform is investing. Study the market they are investing in etc.

If just based on the short term reterm to determine then it might be too much of a gamble lol. Not saying that u r wrong or anything. U might be right and wahed is actually better than both in the future but we can't know yet.

Personally I look at 6 months, and then 1 year when comparing funds in unit trust. None of them have such track record except SAMY. But few days result certainly will not sway me.

Overseas market especially US had been rallying for the past 1.5 months.

It'll be fairer to judge if/when Wahed goes through similar turbulence of July-August 2019

Did wahed performed any portfolio optimization already since launch?

sure, but too bad i didn't know such robo advisor at that time. So i can only make my comparison from Nov, and since I started these 3 RA at same date, i believe it is also fair enough to judge, but probably need to prolong the investment period, says 3-6months time.

Anyhow, Wahed performances better than another 2 so far. will see again in next 2weeks

After few deposits, my deposit is now appeared in my account within 24hours. Normally deposit at morning then available in account at 12~1am. However, one of my referral also waited long time but resolved after contact CS.

I think for new joiners like me, extra background checks are needed that’s why it took longer time.

good thing your money just came in. Latest statement by Trump caused all my gains to be wiped out now losing money.

In layman fashion, DCA simply means putting in a fixed amount every week/month/quarter regardless the market high or low.

I just deposited this morning (I think about nearly 11am). At 11:30pm (12 hours later), my payment is already in.

USA markets improved? suddenly got spike back in earnings after the heavy loss yesterday. phew.

guys, currently I'm doing DCA as I dont have that much capital.

May I know when is the best day for me to do weekly deposit? Since Wahed took like 2 business day to process fund, so best day is Thursday?

Doesn't matter that much on when you put in since you are not timing the markets if you DCA.

I always thought we need to have the money before Monday stock call starts.

the market is open Monday to Friday and your funds can be invested, not only on Mondays.

No, no utilities bills required. Register with the address same with your MyKad ok d.

I had to provide my utility bill though, because registration address was different than my MyKad.

Still too early to tell. Wahed and MyTheo is only few months in the market.

cannot count the rate as such, there might be 1 month with -2% loss or even more, who knows. Not always positive earning.
