The Platform is pretty awesome for what it is. Reminded me of early 2000's "original" psychology horror that has an interesting premise that keep sucking you into the rabbit hole. Give it a shot.

Humans are selfish. I forgot the name of a Japanese manga / tv adaptation. It's really suspenseful and explore human behaviors under stress

Fundamentally it's the Stanford Prison Experiment. The old saying "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" theme. It's a trend to depict 1% vs the have nots. Another metaphorical references of Don Quixote in the lead actor. The fool who is determined to change the system by his illogical actions.

Tiger King basically took over the internet. Samuel L Jackson confessed his adoration over it at Jimmy Kimmel interview. All the Carol Baskins meme spread like wild fire.

Continuing his critique of race relations in US, Da 5 Bloods did a lot of things right. Delroy Lindo is the stand out and can see him in nomination for some awards. Again the use of powerful bookend footage drives the core message of the movie. It has redemption arc for damaged souls and a some form of heist movie elements thrown in. Pretty entertaining and of course Spike Lee's signature of black culture commentary.

The Old Guard ok for what it is. Highlander without all the beheading mumbo jumbo. It's more enjoyable for me than that John Wick wannabe Extraction. As any modern action flick, watchable fight scenes but predictable plotline.

agree.
very predictable plotline.

doesn't make sense for immortals to give up on searching for their comrades. after all they have time on their side. can scour the bottom of the ocean for as long as they need to.

the villain ceo is dumb as f#$%. weak.

if there's a part 2, it should be a lot more interesting but how are they ever gonna have a credible plotline to fix Andy's immortality.

The point is not to fix Andy's immortality. Otherwise you have an uninteresting Mary Sue. You need a counter narrative to throw a monkey wrench for semblance of character agency. If I'm not mistaken Quhn's plotline has yet to resolve in the source material. Hope this will lead to better adaptation of other Greg Rucka materials. If they decide to drop the ball to adapt Lazarus then I'm a happy man.

Just found out The Old Guard directed by a notable female indie film director. It came as a surprise as conventionally it's a dude or stuntman transition to film director choice. Guess that's the reason how they get Matthias Schoenaerts on board of this Hollywood action movie. Usually he doesn't do these types of movie.

Wait...what Sandman coming to Netflix? Cautiously optimistic as David S Goyer associated with it. If it's anything like Season 1 of American Gods should be welcome but shall see...

The Devil All The Time - a very dark misery porn. Chronicles how Tom Holland's character trap in a vicious cycle of tragedies permeate by religious fanaticism or misappropriation of it. It's not about a cult or anything like that, just assholes done terrible things in the name of God. Sleazy pastor, delusional believers, serial killer and a corrupted sheriff that makes up this bleak watching experience. You will be pissed not because it's bad but how sad the film is. Good to great performances from the ensemble cast. Those Brits really unleashed the Southern accent twang better than Americans.

Cutie - The controversy surrounding this movie is overblown. It's not a film made for pedophiles but a cautionary tale of adolescent. Yes you have young girls performing sexualised dance moves but it's the messaging of a cliché that don't leave your child unsupervised. A decent indie effort with charming child actors.

Pretty good action flick that doesn't play with the usual Hollywood fluffs. It's the more gritty and raw that we used to get from Luc Bresson, Michael Mann,etc... Innocent hero need to recover a bullet that proves his innocence. Navigating corrupt cops and crooks with fine action cinema. It's not gonna be a game changer but just well made.

Rogue City/Bronx - So-so only.
Initially thought the premise can be interesting but pacing and cliches drag the movie down. It tries to be serious crime drama but story threads too messy for coherent escalation. You have too many players turning clogs with unsatisfactory payoffs. Not badly made, just took too long to get going with messy plotlines. Better off you go watch Zero Zero Zero the excellent crime drama that severely overlooked.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 - It's the least Sorkin movie I've ever seen. You don't have character spewing lines over each other nonstop. Instead you have breathing room in between scenes and you get to enjoy the performance a little more than usual. Granted this is not masterpiece cinema but a damn good court drama. It's nice to see how they jumping over how things has come to be to deliver the strong closing of the movie. Good performances and the lengthy screen time just pass you by with good pacing.

Mank - A little underwhelming for me. Beautifully shot but hard to get into it. It's not that wild circus of how Citizen Kane being made but a character study of eccentric scriptwriter Herman Mankiewicz aka Mank. He is an accomplished journalist suck into the excess of Hollywood lifestyles as the genius scriptwriter. He grew a conscious to derail his career by offending William Randolf Hearst the media mogul of Hollywood golden age. It's a very political themed film where you get to see why and how Mank decide to risk it all to write Citizen Kane. It's not a redemption story either but just a stubborn genius decide to do the right thing by risking it all.

The History of Swear Words - Although half of the screen time shared with other comedians and experts, can't help it that I'm totally onboard of seeing Nicholas Cage giving an impressionable performance as the often hilarious host. Hollywood should roll out the carpet for his career second renaissance.

Just remember that the Brits did something similar with the lovely Susie Dent.

Watched 2 episodes, so far pretty awesome. While Money Heist veering off to cartoonish tone, here is a more grounded take on the"gentleman thief" genre. It's sorta reimagining of the fabled Lupin as in what Sherlock did.by BBC. Protagonist on a journey to take his 25 years of revenge mystery. The fresh take is how it incorporates Lupin's lore and tropes within the plot line without being too obvious. Give it a shot and watch the French language for better immersion. The dub is as bad as Money Heist.

Below Zero - Pretty engaging watch. The whole premise is figuring out who and why someone would assault a routine prisoner transportation. You get to know who are the prisoners and what prompted the relentless assault on the armored truck. You keep guessing on the why.

I Care A Lot - Remember Rosamund Pike as the perfect ice queen in Gone Girl. This is a pseudo follow-up of that character. Really love the horrible things she did in the movie and her verbal takedowns of her opponents. Unfortunately the movie couldn't close on a high note but still very enjoyable by Pike's performance alone. Diane West and Peter Dinklage also delivered some knockout scenes.

Hope they able to do justice to this adaptation of a hidden gem. A multi generation sprawling tale of a Superman-esque family. The Superman ability became a curse to this family as a devastating betrayal and lust of power set the stage for an epic revenge tale. It took the angle of what if Superman the ultimate hero raise a dysfunctional family where he has no time for as he is occupied with saving the world. A son that can never measure up to the greatness of the father. A daughter who oppose every ideology the father has. A power struggle lasted three generations with the grand son herald as the true successor. It's a mashup of Game of thrones politicking and crazy superhero fights.

Amazon also about to launch another similar type of show. Invincible, twisty and hyper violent of what a more realistic take on Dragonball type of boss fights. Alien invaders and quirky sidekicks basically fueled this much beloved book by the Walking Dead creator.
