For ECG function, can i activate it later in Sg lets say few months down the road after i bought in Msia?

As in i can still use the watch in Msia first and when i travel to Sg later then only activate this function?

Opps if i buy in Msia, it wont have the ECG function at all?

Hi there

i've ask the apple personnel in singapore recently on this ecg things, he mention the apple watch feature for ecg will activated by region selection. i have not check on how to set it up

for malaysia one, if you select malaysia region it wont support ecg and furthermore we also need to activate on iphone to other region as well. the weakness, some apps may not be to start if region is singapore

i have not try yet and i would like others who experience it before

if you search within this thread, we already had this discussion before.

Malaysia Apple Watch firmware does not come with the ECG app, so it is not possible to "activate" it anywhere.

If you get your apple watch from ECG-enabled country, you will see the ECG app on your watch even if you are in malaysia. However, if you have never open the app while in Sg or US or HK (basically any ECG-enabled country), if you try to open it in Malaysia, you will encounter some error, thus not able to "activate" it.

Once you have "activated" the ECG for the first time, a flag will be set in your health data, which is sync to icloud. So the next time you reset/re-pair your Apple Watch, your ECG app will be activated automatically no matter where you are.

This is Apple's current implementation, we cannot be sure of what changes Apple will make for this in the future.

Hopefully in future, ECG will be approved in Msia and there will be a firmware upgrade to enable it.

Will be getting a set in MY as will be redeeming points so no choice but to wait.

So, will we be able to see our own ECG in our phone app? I mean if I bought the watch somewhere else, enabled it and using it in Malaysia. Will I be able to see the history of my own ECG in my phone?

if let's say you buy in SG, when you pair to your watch, you'll see the ECG app. When you open the ECG app for the first time, it'll prompt for activation. After that first activation, you'll be able to use it anywhere because the feature is activated and saved in your icloud health data already.

If that's true, I believe it is an easy job for them to approve. All the first world countries have approved it. What are we when compare to all these countries...what are these people worry about?

example

qi charger afaik has two standards that everybody is using. sirim approved those long time ago

logitech mouse charging pad uses their own proprietary tech. no submission to sirim. no approval. not sold here.

For those I can understand. Diff country has diff electricity "standard". But this is ECG that we are talking about. U have ECG or not you still need to charge the watch. And charging the watch has been approved. And I believe those countries ECG standards is definitely world class standard...

Thank you. More reason to buy overseas and use it in Malaysia. Since telcos also allow us to use the cellular functions.

if we trust "world" standards like US .. we be paying rm1k for Insulin (modified from original abit to getaway from da free patent)
afaik all these ecg watch are not that accurate but is useful. more like precursor warnings. thats y i also want it. i will even buy more and give to my uncle/parents/inlaws etc.

issue here in MY atm..
1. has apple even submitted to the local ministry or sirim or both etc for approval?? or
2. they have and their ahem demands were ridoncolous??

hmm think will ask few ppl over the weekend about this.

it affects samsung as well since their latest galaxy watch has ecg also..

At the end it is still a watch with extra functions. For the ECG function, it is only actually useful for monitoring irregular heart beats. Especially when exercising which is something not easily picked up in the hospital unless you are doing a stress test. I anticipate more work for doctors in Malaysia after this. A lot of people will start going to clinics to show doctors their watches.
