Hi guys,

I have existing concrete top that thinking to replace with porcelain top. Anyone has experience whether I required to demolish the whole existing concrete OR just extract the top tiles and install the porcelain? I've enquired with a kc contractor. Was told that i must replace WHOLE thing instead just install the stone as top

After hacking to remove the top tiles it will look something like egg carton surface. That condition of bombed out cement screed (post-hacking) need further levelling to get it perfectly level.
Plus if you stick porcelain top over the ex-concrete top section, it will look very thick.

So KC contractor rather demolish the whole concrete as it is "easier" to build it up?

Typically in hardware installation (KC, reno) or software works (database data insertion) building from new is usually easier than (cleaning up mess from other people).
Also partly commercial reason.. they are KC maker not "rework/refurbish specialist"
You can try to contact stone top supplier instead.

If you worry about glass type tableware crash when accidentally fall or throw to the sink, then you should avoid granite sink. Also daily clean is highly recommended.

As long you always put down tableware gently then should be ok, also daily cleaning to maintain it smile.gif
But for quality about the brand then I'm not sure about it

I think granite and SS have their own pros and cons, depending on what you're looking for in a sink.

I myself am using a granite sink, but then just only for 3 months so far, so I can't comment much. So far so good.

What is your concern about granite sink actually?

You don't know what you are talking about. SS sinks require more care and wipe down than granite sinks. SS will be probed to scratch too. Maintenance wise a granite sink is far easier to maintain than SS sink. I never have to clean my granite sink ever.

The advantages and disadvantages of these two type of sinks are discussed many times in many threads previously. It is down to individual preference.

There are so many Blanco users in this forum. Whether SS or granite sink is down to individual preference. There are pros and cons of each of them.

You are asking if you should avoid Blanco but without saying the concerns. All I can say is if you are careless type that tend to bang delicate china or glass against the sink then SS sink is a better option. Then it is a matter of if one likes industrial SS look vs Stone look. Both fit any home or kitchen design usually but some kitchen designs may favor one over the other.

I use peasant ikea composite sink with the protective mat.
https://www.ikea.com/my/en/p/grundvattnet-mat-grey-60325421/

This mat prevents the sink from getting direct impact even if you drop a bowl or mug.

In terms of watermark don't have this issue coz always wash down with a drop of dish wash liquid and rinse off. Then it dries off pretty well.

Perhaps you have a cheap/bad quality SS sink previously, my current SS sink has better scratch resistant.
Sorry if I said anything wrong about the maintenance of a granite sink, but pretty sure you will have your glassware break easily if you don't handle it well smile.gif

If you call Kohler a bad quality SS sink. Regardless of how better scratch resistant it will be scratched unless you put a protective mesh wire protector. I also have to use 3M SS cleaner to keep it from getting water marks and stains as I am lazy to do the wipe down every time after use.

I did say that granite sinks are essentially artificial stone. Thus any glassware hitting it hard will break. That is the con of the granite sink. However, granite sink is literally maintenance free.
