Not really.
You have to bare in mind that Credit Card interest is on reducing balance.
You just need to compare it in excel and do a simple calculation side by side.
Couple of us did it before in the previous pages and seems that CC mostly won over UPL. That is if you have the discipline of not to spend further after you repay. wink.gif

call the bank and ask or visit their website to get more info. I think bank rakyat gives less than 5%. But it is better you clarify with the bank officer.

Better get it fast, saw in The Star today ex TM CEO (uh forgot his name, now some bank CEO iinm) and a few other people asking government to regulate loan interest rates because intense competition between banks causing every bank trying to give better deals than the other.

dunno tho, I may have miss read the article, just glanced through it.

Go for Alliance Bank. 5% for 15 years - plus 1% cash back.

I think that's the absolutely lowest in the market right now.

Friend,

your 7.99% Al-Rahji P.loan for government servants is totally uncompetitive.

you have lost to all banks in that sense.

Anyone who really know/experienced and could recommend a personal finance loan, do inform me the plan (no guessing games, please)

my status are as follows to date:
- Employed under private company, not government
- Salary almost RM2,000
- Confirmation letter by employer received January 2009
- EPF savings started 5 months ago

I have already browsed online / phone calls to a few local banks(CIMB, Maybank, BankIslam, etc.), none of their mini personal finance loans could accept me due to one or two requirements (working with company >6months from confirmation date, government servant, asset as guarantor, etc.).

The situation I am in right now isn't death threatening, but I would really like to settle some things with this small loan. Does not matter to me the interest %(i understand the APR and fixed rate), as long as not more than RM500 per month for the duration(hoping for 2 years) of repayment.

Borrow from friends, colleagues or your managers. Return the money to them with interests each month. They'll be glad to be your personal Ah Long minus the hassle. The worse that could happen when you fail to pay back is that you'll lose your friends. But hey, you can always find new friends to leech from them.

called them, they strictly need a creditcard holder or employee with at least RM24,000 income a year(which mine doesn't reach that for now)

friends: i would not resort to borrowing money from them even if i know its possible, its just unlawful, unless of course they're my business partners or such to use money to expand work capacity.
colleagues(workplace): even they themselves are in tight budget.
managers: oh no, never ever do it, i've seen people getting 'out of place' attitudes due to the debt from company.

the "persuade them by paying them interest" theory is a no go, its prone to bring relationship problems later as most people 'sign the agreement' by mouth promises, instead of written contract, which make complications later.
