Hey ZM

Just curious... would you recommend Level51/Aftershock's Vapor 15 Pro?
Currently in market with about 8.5k budget looking for a slim and thin laptop that can game a bit here and there.
Need the laptop to look not too gamery due to work purpose.

Vapor 15 Pro is decent, its long battery life is a bonus

Can also consider Illegear Onyx or Prodigy

Please recommend me a lightweight laptop with USB-A port.

And must have on site services.

For day-to-day business use, occasionally will run software like AutoCAD or Sketchup any graphical proficiency will be a big plus.

How lightweight? Give a max weight in kg

Budget? Any preference on battery life? Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable 8GB RAM?

Weight as long as less than 1.5kg should be ok. 13-14" screen.

Good sRGB display (accuracy) is must (doesnt have to be the best) and prefer 16gb RAM, though i know it's limited in choice.

Budget is more flexible (office use) but emphasise on reliability, support. I'm happy to go with XPS 13 if it wasn't USB-C only.

Can't go wrong with business laptops - X395 / X390 (need to configure 16GB soldered RAM), T495 / T490 400 nits etc

Hi,

Have recently purchased an Illegear Rogue with the purpose of content creation (video editing 1080p) and also gaming (Divinity Original Sins 2, Far Cry 5, Skyrim, Witcher 3). The order is currently being processed.

Would like to comfortably play these games and potential new games in the future (Diablo 4, Cyberpunk 2077 - not sure if asking too much here haha) at high comfortably 45-60 FPS (coming from console gaming so 45-60 I would say is probably going to be good enough for me).

I chose the Rogue initially because of its 17" screen which I believe would be very useful for video editing.

---

That said would you be able to advise if this laptop was the best choice in terms of value for money, quality, and long-term use, with a total net budget of about RM5k +/-?

And also if I should upgrade my current chosen GPU from GTX1650 to GTX1660Ti?

Main concern here is if the Illegear Rogue is able to handle or make full use of the GTX 1660Ti when I do play games that are demanding; in terms of its thermals and all? (Not a laptop tech expert - so just need some assurance if going for a more powerful GPU would make sense for this laptop).

Also - all reviews online unanimously rate the GTX1650 as a graphics card that is terribly poor in performance for the price point.

Current Setup:

Processor: Intel i7-9750H
GPU: GTX1650
RAM: 16gb (dual channel 2 x 8gb)
Memory: 1TB SSD

Total: RM4,824 (Inclusive of Windows Home)

---

Thanks very much and looking forward to your thoughts! biggrin.gif A bit hard to do much research, as there isn't that many reviews online on the Illegear Rogue.

Don't get 1650 GPU if spending over RM4k, not worth the money

Is 17 inch a must? No preferences on weight and battery life?

Note that if you want best build quality+long-term durability, consumer grade laptops like gaming laptops aren't for you

I am open to upgrading to 1660ti. Hmm, would expecting a reliable run of 4 years be asking too much? What is the life expectancy of Illegear?

I wouldn't say 17" screen is a must - but it would be ideal. Am open to 15" too if there's an option with better performance or quality.

Not too concerned on weight - as long as it isn't overly bulky. Battery as long as it works like a normal battery when being used for web browsing etc.

---

Actually, might need some guidance, as I've actually never bought a gaming laptop before - but just found the specs really enticing for the price. What are the pros and cons? Are there similarly priced, consumer grade alternatives?

Is the Rogue still a good choice?

If you're talking about reliability, no one can tell. Not just for Illegear but also other brands (with a few exceptions which has below average lifespan)

Pros: Better CPU+GPU performance, cons: heavier and less battery life (in general, not for all models)

Not sure Legion Y540/Y7000SE offer is still on or not. With code LENXCIMB and Shopback. Refer to gaming laptop list for more options

Hi, i try other way round of asking by providing the option i found and like to ask any other options that equivalent or near the spec i prefer attached.

1. Budget : Up to 4k
2. Usage : Office use, chrome multitab browsing, dropbox, writing ( any good keyboard typing experience, such as the feeling typing on T series Lenovo as i tried myself at the store)
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
- display size 15.6 ips anti glare, if dont have anti glare is fine, because mainly like bigger screen
- weight < 2 kg
- battery life long, at least 8 hours if possible

so i have try myself select the spec at lenovo website and it suggest me as attached:

wondering does this ram upgrade able ?

Must it be 2 in 1 convertible? Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable 8GB RAM?

FYI C740 15 has all soldered RAM

Re: C740 (15)... as one of the first (few) owners in Malaysia.

- average keyboard
- It will glare, doesn't not seem to have any AG coating as it should be as this screen will be subjected to fingers and active pen (stylus). Bright screen: 500nits, great colours (I'd assume it'll hit higher 90+% sRGB, good blacks (for LCD) and observable low contrast images (HDR enabled).
- 1.78kg
- This is subjective to your usage.... if you drop the brightness to 100nits, just web browsing/office... possibly 8 to 9 hours.. when I'm pushing 75% brightness and 1440p to 4k videos, 5 to 6 hours....

- RAM stated at 2400MHz speeds are actually 2666MHz (in dual-channel), non-upgradable

Read/Write speeds of the SSD:
user posted image..

MISC stuff:
- The 2x usb-c are only USB 3.1 gen1 (5gbps)...however both can use for charging... and both passes DP signal through (for 2 external monitors)..
- comes with the Wifi6 module.
- Solid built quality...
- I'd say the only advantage of this series (C740..14&15) is the availability of the 500nits panel (on the 15) .... this generation is a very skimmed down mid-tier (not TB3, no 4k, no expandable RAM, no discreet GPU option, no multi M2 slot, no SD reader,)...
- Though on the 15, the cooling should be sufficient for the 6-core comet-lake i7.

Agreed. Don't really like the new C740 15 TBH - lost too much features. Would still prefer Yoga 730/720 15. Only good thing about the C740 15 is bigger battery+lighter weight. Even the 500 nits panel is optional.
