QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Oct 6 2019, 12:53 PM) Just noticed that, haha. Actually I'm only able to make my purchase in a month or two, so I'm thinking of getting an SSD for my current laptop (my hard disk dying, that's why looking for new laptop. Battery also kaput already, and my usage has changed a lot). Still need to use my laptop for work purposes now. There's a lot to choose from, not sure which one to get. Looking for just 128 or 256gb, planning to add it onto my new laptop once I get it. Any suggestions? I'm probably heading to C-Zone. Thanks~ |

Now that Singapore is getting the Intel white label gaming laptop called Vapor 15 by Aftershock (https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-aftershock-vapor-15-pro-review-specs-features-price-singapore).
Nvm, saw that Level 51 has started selling it at https://www.level51pc.co/welcome/Productinner/vapor-15-pro This post has been edited by edmund_yung: Oct 6 2019, 10:17 PM |

Or T490 for slightly more moneyQUOTE(grayearl @ Oct 6 2019, 09:27 PM) Best bang for buck rn is probably Legion Y7000 SE (9750H+1660Ti/2060, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD+1TB SSD, 144Hz, Intel 9560). Or Level51 Forge 15 Pro. Commandos Glock 5+ is cheap, but it only has i5 (i7 upgrade is expensive) and need to add another 8GB RAM (for dual channel)Note that for Forge 15 Pro and Glock 5+, you need to go to their stores to try out QUOTE(edmund_yung @ Oct 6 2019, 10:10 PM) Nvm, saw that Level 51 has started selling it at https://www.level51pc.co/welcome/Productinner/vapor-15-pro Will review soon (fyi it's based on Tongfang QC7) |

I meant SSD, would like to get one for my current laptop first, and then transfer it when I get the new laptop. But there's a lot of options, kinda confusing. I found this list: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
As for the laptops, definitely going to the stores to see before I decide. Thanks |

Since those options are with 512GB SSD / 1TB SSD, I don't think you need to add another SSDQUOTE(edmund_yung @ Oct 7 2019, 09:16 AM) Wow nice. Youtuber mentioned other manufacturer cap the GPU temp to 75C thus causing the 1660Ti to thermal throttle badly, do follow this up. Thanks. Will do testing with 75C limit and 87C limitQUOTE(jrrsim @ Oct 7 2019, 10:56 AM) Fine with consumer grade laptops? |

Hi Fong,
Is there a 2in1 laptop that does i7,8gig ram and at least 512 ssd? Battery life also must power one. And maybe less than 6k? I'm using it for trading while travelling need to do internet stuff while at the airport. I think I check all the review sites, they all seem to come with prices starting from 6k. Either that or I think dell xps 13. But problem is that one is slightly over 6k. Actually a bit conflicted also choosing between the 2in1 or just traditional laptop. What do you think? |

Do you need touchscreen with pen support or wants to save space / use laptop in tight space? If no, don't get 2 in 1 This post has been edited by ZM Fong: Oct 7 2019, 01:03 PM |

I see in that case, i5 would be fine. 16 gig not necessary right? What's srgb? I'm not sure if it's important or not. But I do like my display to not look washed out. Meaning vivid colours> bland colours. Non-upgradable ram doesn't matter if you have at least 8gigs right? |

Some models don't have upgradeable RAM so you might want to get 16GB. 8GB is minimum nowadays, maybe in next few years 16GB become standard. Who knowsWhat's srgb? Higher sRGB means more vivid colours. Low sRGB = washed out colours Would suggest business grade laptops since your budget allows |

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Oct 7 2019, 02:03 PM) XPS 13 is consumer grade No size preference. But I suppose can't be too big coz I forsee me working at the airport or a mobile desk.May I know your preferred display size, max weight and min battery life? Fine with non-upgradeable 8GB RAM? Weight should be light. Battery life as long as possible. I'll be watching markets. And might have to watch for a few hours. Fine with non upgradable ram. If that's the case, I'll just get 16gig. No issue. But again, like I said budget around 6k is ok la. More than 7k I feel is too expensive for a use once a month situation. |
