Pearl is rare coz males are normally infertile, cannot breed. Only a few males can breed and females have to breed with Agouti or Sapphire.... but then out of the whole litter, only 1 or 2 is pearl.... so it is rare.

Hybrid is WW mix with RC. 1st page have it.

Hi evryone and sifus!
I need some advice nod.gif I just got 2 dwarf hamsters last weekend. I was told they are WW but after much research and reading, I think one is hybrid and one is a possible WW Pearl. Out of stupidity, I got a pair, which I sorely regret sad.gif because I don't want to breed them at all!!! Sigh. I am worried now but I don't want to part with them, they are the cutest thing ever!!!

But then, I read that WW Pearl cud be infertile and I know this sound like harsh but I really pray that it will be infertile for his own good (also for my own good). Or maybe both are females because I don't know how to see, but the seller said they are a pair. So here is a picture, can the sifu tell is he a WW Pearl? The other one is a definite hybrid right, Winter Gold? Or maybe both also hybrid?

I also love the syrian. Someone adviced me that I shud get a syrian instead of dwarfs. I never had any experience with hamsters blush.gif only helping out friends and admiring from far. But now that I got two of this baby, I can't wait to get home from work! Their temperament is great, no biting... maybe because they are still small. I also learning to tame them by touching them everyday... at least now they take treats for me and I hope that is a good sign.

I also just bought a nice house for them smile.gif some Japanese brand. I wanted to buy Habitrail Mini but I thot this one is more spacious and bit cool, hehe.

I'm feeding them fresh fruits and Prestige Hamster Mix. For chewing I'm giving them dried alfafa. I'm using pine shaving, hmmm don't remember the brand but it's sold evrywhere. They seemed to like it and bury themselves inside it when they sleep until I was really worried last night cos I thot they got out, haha.

Advices are very much appreciated! smile.gif

Addendum:
Forgot to tell their names, hehe. tongue.gif
The supposed Pearl is MOMO
The Winter Gold is FUFU

Well, congrats on getting hamsters. One thing alot of people do hear is to listen to petshops at getting a pair... never listen to a petshop. If they say a pair, always say you one either both males or both females. When a petshop says they are a pair, means 1 male and 1 female.

Best advice..... Separate them or give 1 away. You have to learn how to sex your own hamsters. Read up, Google it, you would find pictures there.

The winter gold.... it is called a Pudding, popular in Singapore and right now the colour is orangy.... but wait, once it grows older and mature, the colour would fade to a little brown.... then as old age comes, it would fade to a very pale brown.... that's why they are hybrids. The 3 pure WW colours never fade.

Cut down on fruits, feed more green veggies coz fruits contain high in sugar and water. Watermelon should be given in very small amounts coz too much may cause them to get diarrhea. Go for a fruit with more fiber... apples, pear, guava, persimmon....

Pine is dangerous..... what brand? If you said found everywhere, it could be the cheap kinds that produce more phenols than other shavings. Switch to something safer like Breeder's Celect or Healthy Pet or Kaytee or Delikate or any brand of Corn Cob bedding.
*
sad.gif have to give one away? Sob sob. cry.gif Will check their sex when they are a bit older, they are really really small... size like small cotton ball only. I think I will separate them instead of give one away la... so sad want to give away, already love them.

Hmmm is the other one WW Pearl? Momo looks very similar to the ones in the pics I google tho...

Ok, will give them veggies and fruits with fiber nod.gif

The pine bedding I use is Living World by Hagen. I thot it's a good brand? It's the same brand that produced Habitrail. It is ok or will harm my babies?

Yah, separate them better. Get another cage  smile.gif

Yes, that is a WW Pearl.

Living World.... that is not a good bedding to use. Pine.... try and picture this.... do you know that most floor cleaners, disinfectants for hospitals and some air fresheners are pine? They use the oil, the phenols. Now imagine smelling that pine smell for 24/7.... you can actually get either lung infection, breathing disorder or liver failure. Experiments were done before to find out. Put a mouse in pine shavings, and a mouse in some other bedding. The one in pine shavings dies earlier and when dissected, the lungs are damaged.... This is why we must use bedding that is not pine. Chipsi uses Fir and spruce, slightly better than pine. Delikate, another type of softwood but is not pine for it has no pine smell.  Kaytee Pine is specially produced to get rid of the phenols. The best type of bedding is Aspen but none available in Malaysia, if there are, it would be hard to find.

Did you read the 1st page? Read it if you did not, there is a bedding review there.

Not everything produced by Habitrail are good. Their food is of so-so quality.... only their cages are not bad. If Prestige, only certain pet food are ok, their bedding is super dusty. The only pine shavings safe is Kaytee.

Haiya, so sien, kena tipu already la like this sweat.gif Got it in a package together with the hamsters. Nevermind la, will change it tomorrow. smile.gif Will go buy the suggested bedding nod.gif Thanks!

Hi guys... I got good news!
Remember when I thought my hamsters are 1 pair and I need to separate them? Now they both are fat fat hammies already and can see the sex!
Yeay!! Both are males... phew! Can see their tiny balls tongue.gif and also the holes are far apart, which means they are both males! So happy, hahaha! Now I dont have to separate them or give them away! Yeay yeay!

Anyway, will they fight later? So far since they have been together since they were 2 weeks old, they never fight... the play and sleep together.. my Winter Gold / Puding is larger than my WW Pearl... sweat.gif is this normal? I read that WW is smaller than campbell... and since Puding is a hybrid, that means it is logical that he is larger than my WW Pearl right?

Oh, just incase I havent told you guys their name... Puding is FUFU and WW Pearl is MOMO... icon_rolleyes.gif
Here are the pics of them, fatso sooooo cute!

I am thinking of getting a syrian hamster tongue.gif from that petshop in Sunway Mentari, u guys been talking about... but I have a few Qs:

1. Is is a good idea? I dont have other pets than the 2 dwarfs. I am single and live alone.
2. If I decided to get it, is male or female more manja and better to handle?
3. Can we bring syrian hamster to go jalan2? for example to hang out at starbucks or something? Will it stress them?
4. Hmm last but not least, syrian is more tame than dwarf right? I want a pet I can handle all the times without stressing them or me! I handle my dwarfs on daily basis, but they are still bit fast and cautious all the times sad.gif

omg... your ww pearl and puding is so cute!! where did you get them?? tongue.gif

since u only have only 2 dwarf hams as ur pets, i'm sure getting another syrian is not that hard to take care, right crazymouse? xD

as for sex, i think male is more manja, but at first when u get it, u still have to tame it a little, cos their bite is much more painful than ww..

finally, if u wan a pet that can be taken to startbucks, get a dog, or at least a guinea pig lah... syrians too small lah biggrin.gif
*
Heheh, yeah they so cute hor tongue.gif hahahah funny little fella also... first time own hamster actually, before this just kepochi with friend's hamsters tongue.gif
I got them at the curve... weekends they have that market right? sell clothes, handbags etc... one stalls sells hamsters and sugar glider... but they do sell very young lor... I got mine at 2 weeks old only, so so so small.

I was told that I shud get syrian if I am first timer hamster owner leh... but then not hard taking care of these 2 little monkeys, hahah. They are not biters too... I hope they stay that way because I am scared with the hamsters that bites... ouch! Syrian bites ah? Haiyaaaaaa... scared leh. I heard that petshop in Sunway Mentari sell tame syrian? And syrian once tame, they will forever be tame, right?

Yeah la, never see also ppl bring their hamster to walk-walk biggrin.gif hahahah... not that I dont want dogs or cats.. but they are harder to take care mah.... tongue.gif I dont think I have time for cats, let alone dogs need to bring walk-walk all... I worked late everyday sweat.gif

P.S: Hmmm... another Q.. Syrian or Guinea Pigs? tongue.gif I love Guinea pigs also... haha last time when I was in primary, my school got guinea pigs at our science garden, hahahaha!

i recently changed from tank to a used cage for my robos. with this cage, he climbed around (horizontal bar) and bite the cage. this is the first time I saw him biting the cage, looks like he is trying to get out. i used a new smaller cage before i transferred him to the tank, the 2nd home. this biting has never happened to the other cage.

so he has stop biting and climbing after few hours to now, i wondered is he just curious with the new home or is he doesnt like the new home, hence the biting?

Ooh! Same case also like my two lil furry monkeys. When I put them in this small wired cage, usually when I am cleaning their main house... they start to bite the cages and hanging like monkeys... really funny. hahahah... they bite here and there... do acrobats all...
But when I put them back to their main house they stop doing that.... my conclusion is, the space in the wired cage is very small.. well, the one I have is indeed very small... and I think they thought they could escape or something because it's all wired and they can see the outside world... tongue.gif their main house is half wired and half plastic wall, the typical Japanese made hamsters house.

In your case, does the new house smaller? Or the new house has more wired walls than the old house? I think apart from their curiosity, they really thot they could escape hahahahah! Funny la they all... hahahahah tongue.gif

Hehehehehehe.... Introducing, MoFo my boy! smile.gif
Went to SP after work and got him. He's quite tame, a bit cautios which is normal I was told. What I need to do is to handle him on daily basis to let him get accustomed to my smell nod.gif I am sooooo happy. Being a noobs in hamster, I REALLY REALLY REALLY shud have got a syrian last time and not the dwarfs sad.gif It is so different, being a wussy as I am, scared of being bitten and all, I shud have taken a syrian instead... what a charming lil boy!!!!!! Sigh. I am thinking of letting my WW for adoption... I can handle them alright but not as easy as I handle MoFo the syrian... how ah? I feel so bad.

Anyway, MoFo is 5 mths old according to PS. He is white banded (right?), I know he looks the same like other syrians but he has this 3 dots at his back, hehe. SP currently only have 6 syrians, 1 female and 5 males. Is him too old? She said he is already at his peak size, cannot grow any bigger... but I am determine to grow him sideways, hehehehehehe... now he's sleeping in the red roof house (as in the pic below) smile.gif he's a cute fella, very shy and cautious but he never bite (yet) and OMG, I am so jakun cos I can handle him so easy!!!

Here are the pics!!

I also made a video of him exercising for 100m in Olympic 2008 next year, teehehe.

P.S: Do you think I should get my WW & Pudding adopted? Am I a bad person if I do that? sad.gif

JackJack's sibling... JackJack also from Pet Shack...

Your MoFo is cinnamon banded like JackJack... We also got the 2 feet tank from PS but now the tank belongs to Jery & Remy (robos). JackJack is now staying in Hagen ZooZone2 (3 feet tank).

This is JackJack last night when I gave him a piece of dog food to eat. He knows I'm taking his picture so he turn the other way to finish eating his treat.
*
Hi JackJack!!! smile.gif
I come to think that the tank like small now, hahahaha! But I am REALLY glad I got a syrian, what was I thinking when I got the dwarfs. For a wussy like me, GEEEEEZZZ *bang head on the wall* And syrian is so interactiveeeee...

crazymouse, u shud go check out the stall at the curve. I actually got the pudding and WW normal on Sat. Then next day the WW died, I think cos he was too small also. Puding is big lor. Then I asked for replacement lor, not my fault really cos only 1 night, it could be cos they are just 2 weeks old (I also stupid leh... didnt know about all this also blush.gif ). Then when I got WW Pearl, I got to add another RM6 lor... The hamsters look happy la... but when I know 2 weeks is too small to sell and separated from mom, then u go there ALL hamsters (Chinese, robo, WW) are 2 weeks old lehhhh...

u mean your pudding bite u? blink.gif
I m just pending to have one ler...
I thought they are not bite one? shocking.gif
*
No, the most they do is, nibble2 my fingers... for someone who is scared from biting, that already gimme jitters. My bad experience come from my friend hamsters, he has like infestation already lor, the hamsters not tame anymore I think... I innocent2 happy put my hands inside the tanks... then NGAP!!!!! *shudders*
Well, the thing is, after I got my syrian last night, I realised it was a mistake for a wussy like me to get dwarfs. blush.gif But I think the most reason I got them was they were soooooooooo cute, little thing, very friendly also. Well, they were only 2 weeks old, of course they dont know anything... sigh.

Now they are big and fat and healthy, heheheh very active nod.gif run here, run there. Eat eat eat eat, shit shit shit shit, hahahahahah! I'm having a hard time to catch them.. tongue.gif first cos i scared they bite... wash my hands all everytime biggrin.gif then they very sneaky, very elusive from my catching hands, hahah!

Now I read if they smell other hamsters smell, they will bite... sweat.gif isit?

Wah!!  rclxm9.gif This is Jack Jack's brother lah... whistling.gif   He look exactly like Jack Jack...  wub.gif Soon you'll feel that 2 feet tank is too small for him cos now we are using ZooZone2, a 3 feet tank for him. Jack Jack very smart and can think of ways to escape and do stunt.  rclxub.gif

I like PS for their service, they drilled a hole for the water bottle also when we bought Jack Jack. One thing, the wheel maybe too small for MoFo, see if he bend his back curve when he is playing the wheel. We bought a 8 inch wheel for Jack Jack. know what? The wheel is more expensive than the tank... sweat.gif

You are just like me leh, I also bought 2 robos from Pet Safari before getting Jack Jack, having hard time to tame them as well and they are so scared being handle, but I'll still keep them even though I can't handle them and play with them like Jack Jack, but still they look so cuteeee......  wub.gif

You'll find yourself love MoFo more and more after you can really handle him cos he will be so manja and look soo... cuteee..... You just can't not to love him...  wink.gif  wub.gif  wub.gif

I'm so happy that Jack Jack found his brother MoFo and his sister Shakira (siokjinlim's syrian)... rclxms.gif
*
Hehehe yeah lor... I havent really decided to get my WW and Pudding adopted cos they so cute already mah... but if I can find someone who would pay 100% attention to them and play with them better than me, I will consider also. smile.gif

MoFo is trying really hard to escape! Now the wheels I put in the middle cos he tried to climb on it and escape when I put at the side... When I'm home I leave the top open cos I wanna look, heheh... and YES I think the wheel is small lor... need to buy new one, so kesian MoFo needs to arch his back a little sad.gif I thot so already... weekend coming will go shopping hehe.

Hmmm... I put dried alfafa inside the tank.. a lot more now than in the pictures... with the sticks and leaves all... it smells nice, hehe cover the poopoo and peepee smell also... but I have a Q... it's ok right to put the dried alfafa lots and lots of it? I read it can also be used as xtra bedding besides for gnawing. I also see him hording some back inside the little house, hehehehe.

Hmm... but he sleeps a lot la.. is that normal for few days? He is less cautios with me today than yesterday... after some reading I know he is half tamed that's why he's not biting.. I hope he's tamed soooooon! Very soft and cuddly haha... and funny as hell when he sits and eat, haha.

Last few Qs:
1. How old is JackJack? U know birtdate or not, then I can also know MoFo's bthday smile.gif
2. I see JackJack is so round and fur like so neat and close to the body... will MoFo become like that? Now he's still kurus, ringan only... bulu only like soft and fluffy blush.gif

my MoFo is progressing very fast! Spend the whole night playing until now (see now it's 3.22am) hehehehe... now he comes to my hand when I put it in the tanks instead of avoiding it, teehehe. Put him on my bed, he walked around try to eat my book... my notebook cable... my shorts sweat.gif then put him in the bathtub... hahaha, he walk and walk around and when I put him back in the tag he straight went to sleep! Must be tired!

We had a lot of fun tonight! rclxms.gif I'm so happppppppy! MoFo is so crazy, running on his wheels then step out of it and straight pengsan, flat on his stomach Zzzzzz! I hope this is normal sweat.gif

My WW and Pudding is sleeping, as usual ignoring me, sigh. still avoiding my hands, haha... but at least they dont bite biggrin.gif
