QUOTE(EpsilonStar @ Dec 22 2019, 03:19 PM) Wow u r the first one I have encountered that gave such high praises to TLJ, especially on that rewatch able point. TFA had the whole BRAND NEW STAR WARS IN AGES thing going for it, which made the first watch acceptable. But I could not finish watching it a second time. Dreadfully boring. TLJ was uneven, exciting, fun, with some tremendous sequences. Its not without flaws, but it doesn't rely on nostalgia to make a movie, and nothing in the history of SW is as spectacular as the throne room sequence. TROS is TFA all over again, except that it closes a saga and thus is doubly disappointing. You could not imagine a more listless and limp way to end a 9-movie saga. The PT at the very least served some form of (self-fulfiling) purpose, but how this newest trilogy ends makes the last three movies pointless. It is the most charmless and witless of all SW movies, and that includes the PT movies. |

It is the most charmless and witless of all SW movies, and that includes the PT movies. Watched TFA 3 times in cinema before, and 2 times on TV ... still exciting for me. Watched TLJ 1 time in cinema and 2 times on TV ... fell asleep the 2nd time. Hopefully watching TRoS in cinema another time, I won't fell asleep also. My point is, each SW fans will love or loath different episodes. Ya, TLJ felt fresh the first time I watched it, many picturesque scenes....but now the plot also seems stupid e.g. why didn't Vice-Admiral Holdo just inform Poe about her plan. Watched the original trilogy in cinema also during its 20th anniversary special edition release. Watched the prequel trilogy also in cinemas ... TPM at TGV KLCC early screening, the fans, fuh ... Maybe becoz I seldom read/play/watch other expanded SW universe stories, that's why I'm more gullible, easier to be tricked into following the simple but uneven sequel trilogy? |

Spies in Disguise (2019)
I found myself with some time to kill today. Hence a movie marathon. By Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age anyone) and with the voice talents of Will Smith (Gemini Man groan), Tom Holland and first time directors, what can so wrong? Well, not much. The Tag line Super Spy means Will Smith... and Super Fly.... also means Will Smith?? Concept is fresh. Voice talents casting are great. I don't usually get into the politics of things, I am not sure if Blue Sky Studio's distribution contract is ending, with 20th Century Fox, now that Disney owns 20th Century Fox, if not, does that mean that Disney has a say in what Blue Sky can produce? Not a cheery thought. Overall I like this movie alot. The "play"/banter between Will Smith and Tom Holland character is good. My one complain about this movie is... the third act. Some parts go WAY ridiculous. My Two Sen |

Ip Man 4: The Finale 葉問4:完結篇 (2019)
So, like me just say, when they say final, it looks like this will be THE final... Unless he comes back in a Zombie Apocaplyse... Again, I don't usually go into political point of view, and have to add, that is seems to me that the director Wilson Yip has something to say about the current state of American politic and racism And also maybe the state of thing in H.K. at this point in time as well. I also feel that there are some casting issues. Scott Adkins comes across as... two dimensional and Vanness Wu character is so... forced... The character I like is Wu Yue as Wan Zong Hua. The only 3 dimensional character I feel is in the movie. Ip Man at the wrong place at the wrong time... not sure is sell as well anymore. I did "enjoy" the movie (second movie is my movie marathon) Just not my favorite Ip Man movie. Mt Two Sen. |

Portrait of a Lady on Fire(2019)
Release Date: 2020 (Available) Director-Céline Sciamma Writer-Céline Sciamma Language-French with English subtitles Stars-Noémie Merlant, Adèle Haenel. Set in 1760 France, Marianne (Noémie Merlant)a young professional portraitist arrived by sea to a secluded island in Brittany. She’s been commissioned by Héloïse’s mother (Valeria Golino) Her subject is Héloïse (Adèle Haenel) The painting will be a gift to Héloïse’s future husband, (a sort of a kind of receipt), to a Milanese whom she never met before. Héloïse isn’t interested in marrying and hence defied her mother’s wishes to sit for a portrait to painters. The family’s maid, Sophie (Luàna Bajrami), believes that Héloïse's sister killed herself to avoid marriage. Marianne initially present herself as a friendly companion, discreetly observing Héloïse’s features and expressions and committing them to canvas secretly. Her first attempt is a failure because she can’t see her in all of her emotional texture. As the two women begin to let their guards down and get to know each other, their gaze, electrifying chemistry and studying each other across rooms. Their passion melting the barriers between them. Painfully beautiful ending. |

The Grudge (2020)
Honestly, I only have a vague memory of the original Japanese horror movie. Alot of school girls, a little boy covered in "chalk" powder and emo eye makeup Also, an invalid old Japanese lady... That is it... And, honestly, I wasn't looking to watch a movie today. I found out that this was on, and rushed to the cinema to watch this. I remember the trailer intrigued me, so I was in a darken movie theater, and watched the movie I was interrupted twice by my own phone (I could have sworn I put in on silence). This movie is a little "multiple personality". In one hour, thirty four minutes, it tried to tell 4 stories, and it can get confusing... To make matters worst, some character are in two of the stories.... Additionally, is it me or are guy characters in present day movies, get... the shower scene... (as depicted in the poster...) I know what they tried to do. There are not so much scary scenes, more of gore scenes. And you know kinda when they appear... Will it sell to horror fans... Well, the branding would sell to most horror fan. Did I enjoy this? If the confusion of all the stories were better edited, maybe I would have been more entertained. Or, maybe I am just a jaded old fart movie lover.... My Two Sen... |

Underwater - Throwback to 90s underwater monster movie genre.
This movie a rip-off of many underwater monster movies that I grow up watching. Namely Leviathan, Deepstar Six, Abyss, etc... It's "Alien" in the unknown depth of seabed. The first 2 act of it came fast and acceptable atmospheric horror. Like any modern hollywood movies, 3rd act is a letdown. While lacks of originality and some irritating actor, there are good fun to be had if you overlook its shortcoming. A step up from the abominable "Meg". Also if you slap Cloverfield in the title, you would believe it as well. This post has been edited by 6so: Jan 12 2020, 09:30 AM |

Anyone who reads my review on a regular basis, knows that I dislike war movies. So why did I watched this? Well, from what I had heard, it is good. I love good movie. So, I sucked it up, and went to watched this today and... IT IS GREAT!! Sam Mendes brought it. Sam "heard" this from his paternal grandfather, and decided to make a movie about it. And, if you had watched his James Bond movie, Spectre (2015), you are in for a treat. He filmed this, like the whole movie is shot in ONE TAKE. (Well, I can actually count 4 cuts, let me know if you count more) For him to achieve this, the technical know how is... mind boggling!?! This is definitely one for the books. So,,, Script is FANTASTIC. Casting is GREAT. Directing, is through the roof. As I had said, Sam brought IT. Let know just elaborate on how much I like this movie. The things I DISLIKE about WAR MOVIES, are ALL in THIS MOVIE. And they are shot well. Despite of THAT, I truly TRULY enjoyed this movie. Do yourself a favour, go and watch this, before they remove it from the theater. On that note, My Two Sen. |

Underwater (2020)
Did a movie marathon today. I don't think I can continue doing marathon in the future. A spring chicken, I am definitely not. Back to this movie. I actually enjoy the first two act. Very immersive. The audience gets sucked in and is invested. I was literally at the edge of my seat. Then third act came along, it looks like the director seem only interesting is showing Kristen Stewart in her skives... I am sure there is an audience for that. I like the technology suggested in this movie (used technology). Don't think they exist yet (a underwater suit that can withstand 8 tonnes a square inch) And how they solved the "re-breather" issue and no mention of the bends... Then again, it is just a movie. My two sen. |

Charlie's Angels (2019)
Okay... So... This happened... I... am lost for words... This did the impossible... It makes the Charlie's Angels (2000) and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003) looks like masterpieces of cinema... (They were entertaining, not masterpieces of cinema) What was Elizabeth Banks thinking! What was Drew Barrymore (executive producer) thinking!?! I am now afraid for He-Man, Master of the Universe (who is actually in this... Noah Centineo, and Sony is making it). What the heck is Sam Claflin doing in this!!?! And Sir Patrick Steward... I really REALLY hope he at least got a lot of remuneration for this!!!!! It only bright spot is Jonathan Tucker proves that he can managed baddie roles.. Bad script, really REALLY bad script. This movie... is a disaster. This is Just My Two Sen. |

The Invisible Man (2020)
QUOTE Covid-19, covid-19 go away Never comeback another day "Little" Mov Freak wanna play (or go to the cinema) Covid-19, covid-19 go away. I have not visited a cinema for quite some time now. Firstly, there was not much offerings I was interested in (Eg. Fantasy Island was trashed by the critic and The Rescue was pulled from the cinema because of the Covid-19) So, I went to the cinema today and thank goodness I did. This is an excellent movie. Director is Leigh Whannell Writers is also Leigh Whannell (screenplay by), Leigh Whannell also did the screen story by... you see where this is going? For the uninitiated, Leigh Whannell had been partner in crimes with James Wan since the Saw (2004). He wrote Insidious and also directed one of them (the third one, if memory serves) Back to this movie. Whoever is involved with the casting for this movie should also be commended (well I can think of one I would change, and have to add, I would be nitpicking) Prior to the release of The Mummy (2017), Universal announced their monster unified universe, Dark Universe, trying to give MCU a run for their money. Many a project was announced and many a big names, named and signed to appeared in these high profile projects. The Mummy (estimated budget of $125,000,000 made only $80,227,895 at the US box-office. Do bare in mind such big budget movies, have big budget marketing fund, usually in the USD100 millions range, you can see what kinda loses it was for Universal) bombed at the box-office (I honest think it was a decent movie, and would have faired much better, if it was NOT called The Mummy). With that, alot of people (including the creator, Alex Kurtzman) thought that the Dark Universe would go out with a whimper... Well, Universal with Blum House made this, with a budget of USD 7,000,000 (bare in mind, each episode of Mandalorian is costing Disney+ USD 13,000,000...) and at last count, has a cumulative worldwide Gross of $102,226,015. That is a GREAT return of investment and I hear, that Universal and Blum House is currently talking about a Dracula movie... I enjoyed this movie immensely. The amount of information that audience gather, in the first 10 mins of the movie, is equivalent to the storyline of the last Insidious movie. I was wondering why with Leigh Whannell writing the story for Insidious: The Last Key (2018), the story was so.... lean. After watching this, I suspect he was putting more effort into this script compared with that Insidious movie... As mention, I like the cast. Elisabeth Moss was perfect for Cecilia Kass. She just fit the part, perfectly. Haunted eyes, a ball of nervous energy, so.... broken. With such limited budget, the "invisible" parts/effects were very convincing. The ending... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 2020 movies have been underwhelming. If this indicate what is to come, for the rest of the year, I can only say, bring them on!!
