any dashcam with capacitor to recommend that is around the same price at 70mai pro? so far i've read about Blueskysea B1W only. built quality seems worst than 70mai pro
*
BlueSkySea is actually a big top 10 dashcam manufacturers in China. They actually manufacture dashcams for other dashcam brands laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

If can top up a bit or save up a bit and get Viofo A119 V2. A119 V3 coming soon but not cheap I think. You can try and search for Viofo A119 V2 and maybe get it cheap on Aliexpress, Shopee or Lazada but little or no warranty from the seller.

FYI - Viofo distributor in Malaysia is Sicurez and they offer 1 year 1 on 1 exchange warranty.

Also don't get Sandisk Ultra microSD card to use in dashcams. Sandisk Ultra A1 can. Or Samsung Evo Plus.

Hi guys,

Any shops around PJ that sells English version 70mai with hard-wiring installation? Or can suggest any other brand/model around that price range?

How much it will cost?

Thanks
*
70mai Pro only see got sellers but no installer.

You'll need to find a car accessories shop that is willing to install hardwire for you.

Look at B1W as its using capacitor instead of battery.

Hi guys, is there any dash cam that doesn't require any wiring/cable connected to the car? And do you guys remove your dash cam and keep it away from prying eyes when you leave your car? Or thiefs won't bother to smash your windows to steal a dash cam nowadays?  biggrin.gif
*
How I wish got such dashcams. But don't think there is an internal power supply can last long unlike the plugged in dashcams.

Got a few cases of cars getting smashed and their Yi dashcams getting stolen.

There is a discreet design dashcam.

Taking down when you off the engine and put it back on the dashcam before you start the engine, you'll need to make it a habit of doing. Think you can do it?

Hi, 70mai pro looks good.

1) How is the 70mai Pro mounted? using a suction cup or adhesive? if adhesive, can it be easily removed to adjust position without affecting the tint?
2) How long will the battery last?
3) How much is the price and how do you ensure that the unit is original?

Thank you
*
1- Tape mount. The mounting tape can only use 1 time only. It won't spoil tint like suction mount. But when removing the tape mount will need some skills to remove without affecting the tint. I forgot that the 70mai have electrostatic film which you stick on the windscreen then the mount on the film so you no need to scared damaging the tint..

My review here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4667583
2- By right the small battery inside can last 15-30 minutes continuous recording but the battery is used more for the impact trigger parking mode which records a short video after the g sensor triggers.
3- Get from a reputable seller in Lazada, Shopee or Aliexpress.

I see, that is the reason i am reluctant to get a dash cam few years as I cant stand seeing the dangling cables in my friend's car and also worried that any tampering my void my car's warranty.

Haha yeah, I will probably be too lazy to put the cam back on but at the same time worried about getting the windows smashed.
*
That's why you need to hide the cables in the lining.

Thanks all for the replies. Are there dash cams in the market that are mounted on the dash instead of the screen?
*
All dashcam have mount that you stick on your windscreen. Either tape mount or suction cup mount.

There are rear view mirror mount but only work with certain dashcam due to the design.

If you are worried about getting your windows smashed then get a more discreet dashcams like the 70mai (non pro) or the B1w or those others without screen. Small footprint means less chances of it being detected by potential windows smashers (like Mat Botak going to jail for 1 year). LOL.

Jokes aside, if you have more budget then get brands like BlackVue which also have similarly small cam design. So anyway, I got B1w and really like it. They have really good support online in a forum and they are constantly updating their firmware for features like parking mode and so on.

For the asking price of B1w, it is the best bang for bucks with supercapacitor. Don't expect it to be as good as Blackvue or viofo which is 5x the price. Good enough for me.

Check out a video I just extracted from B1w. The night video is darker than usual because I am using a CPL lense which is supposed to improve against glare. If you don't use the CPL lense, videos will be brighter and easier to see at night.

*
Nice! B1W the best bang for budget capacitor dashcam.

Okay I will eliminate the thought of windscreen being smashed as I seldom park my car at secluded places  biggrin.gif

I meant something like the picture below. This way, the wires has a shorter path and can to be connected to the usb port/cig port at the center console without hiding them on the roof.
*
That's the legendary Mobius action cam. Can be mounted on top and be very hidden from sight.

B1W got parking mode recording? Since it's capacitor I thought it won't have enough juice for parking mode. Auto record when got shock? Know how long it can record when in parking mode?
*
You'll need to hardwire it to your car battery for the parking mode.

QUOTE(Pugbunny @ May 31 2019, 09:49 PM)
Is there any shop selling B1W? Or got to purchase online only?

Only thru online shop

Yes, any wireless devices including dash cam will need SIRIM AP. Be sure to use the 'correct' shipper to avoid that. No big company DHL for sure.
*
Don't think will need to ship B1W via DHL. As mostly all China dashcam sellers use other shippers that can go around this. All my dashcams arrived without the hassle. Mobile phones kena a few times d.

Hi guys,

I know this probably the trillion-th time the question been asked, but can you sifus gave me a recommendation :

+ dual channel
+ user friendly app (my Thinkview 800 app suck)
+ LCD touchscreen

Less than 800-1k with discerete installation.
*
Are you by any chance using a Huawei phone? I know Huawei phone need to turn on airplane mode or turn off mobile data before connecting to the Thinkware dashcam. This mostly a Huawei issue.

Thinkware doesn't have 2ch LCD & Wifi. iRoad got but certainly won't rm800-1k. Blackvue & Viofo also don't have.

The new X700 has a touchscreen but no wifi. If not wrong it's having a Raya promo now for rm1399 with installation.

I believe Jayce meant to NOT use any big-name shipper like DHL. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Yes, correct.  nod.gif
*
I know but my intention is to say China dashcam sellers won't use DHL to ship unless you pay them to use DHL which can cost more than the dashcam they are selling.

Anyway, I experienced before receiving my review unit of Blackvue DR750S-2CH from South Korea via DHL. No issues there as the DR750S-2CH has wifi. Not just once but twice via DHL as the first unit got hardware issues.

So I don't think customs will stop a dashcam but more likely will stop a mobile phone more.

Eh guys. Question:

Whats the practical difference between with LCD and without? Does it serve a significant improvement in function?
*
With screen you can view the videos from the dashcam and also set up the dashcam there also.

Without screen, you'll need to use phone app to view videos and setup via app. Usually streaming via wifi the quality is lousier than the actual video.

WiFi easier to view and download on your phone.

But I prefer old school way, take out the micro sd card and view on pc. This way is good for those who want to view full resolution on bigger screen.

Prefer install myself......so will get it via online shop....

Depends on model.

Blueskysea mini0906 about rm400-500. Viofo A129 Duo rm500-800.

Thinkware or Blackvue about rm1k to 3k.

It's for convenient purpose. But that depends on how often you actually look at it. Most of the discreet cams are non-LCD. Except A129 Duo which has WiFi and LCD for this combo.

any comment about this model? legendary in a good or bad way?  hmm.gif it looks small (and flat bottom) enough to be placed in the dash (as in the photo) rather than on the windscreen.

Is it an action cam that ppl mostly use on RC. Got ppl convert it to hidden dashcam too.

That was the first few generations if not mistaken. Now got newer generations d.

QUOTE(asil66 @ Jun 4 2019, 10:30 AM)
Dear sifus,

Noob here n would like to clarify a few things on dash cam . Can somebody please confirm if my understanding below is correct?

1. If we want our dashcam to have the parking mode, must do hardwiring.
2. If do hardwiring, for sure will void the warranty of the car? For a car there are few warranties with different period. Will it void all warranty or only certain type of warranty?
*
1. Yes as most dashcams using capacitor needs to be hardwired. But those with battery inside can record video AFTER getting the g sensor triggered without hardwire.
Nowadays have hardwire to fusebox or via the OBD port.

2. I know all car manufacturers will void the warranty for anything not installed from the factory. There was a case for a Civic owner changed speakers and using LED bulbs and somehow a fuse blew. Sent back to SC to check and SC reported to Honda Malaysia modified. 5-year unlimited mileage warranty byebye for whole Civic. So depends on the SC.
