I think you will be staying in Kolej Kediaman E for your first year in UMS. After that, they might allocate you to some other hostel. Do remember that during the orientation week, they might just dump you into which ever hostel that is available at that time though. Kolej Kediaman E is inside the UMS compoud but it is the furthest at the moment. But fret not, there are buses around so you will not have to walk. Ooo... another thing, we dont used to have internet access in the hostel but i am not sure about now though. It has been awhile since i left. Hopefully they have upgrade the facilities in the hostel. You can only access the internet in the library or in your school's computer lab.

Regarding the registration fee. If you really cannot pay up one whole lum sum. You can always right a letter to the admin to ask them to forward the balance of the fee to your next semester.

hi.. im a 2nd year Geology student... a lil advice from me la for the orientation week.

Bus is provided from 29th untill 2nd July. They have counters at both airport, with seniors assisting you. They will assign you 2 kolej as per stated in surat tawaran. The sooner u come, the better it is. All international courses are at labuan campus. But they do orientation at KK campus. Since all students are there, might got prob with kolej. If the kolej is full, u will be assigned to out campus kolej, King Fisher(got bus la dun worry).

it will be a simple registration for the orientation week. Beg, brouchers, tshirt, baju batik n payung will be provided. Once there, settle down. Rooms might be dirty. Dont bother. u'll be there for 1 week only.

Saturday n sundey kolej registration. Monday University registration... will be done in Dewan Canselor(u'll love it). PTPTN is done online this year, so i think PTPTN loan application process will be skipped. The rest of the week will be a busy days... u'll hav to go through it to understand well...

Last day of orientation is friday, with Majlis Angkat Sumpah... make sure u all learn the song by heart. Its a very lovely song, surely u will like a certain part of the song. If u dont sing well, u'll hav to rehearse untill late night.

The next day, saturday... reassign u to new permenant kolej. Some might stay same kolej, some might not. But surely not same room(so be advised dont unpack during orientation). U will go through formal kolej registration process, by submitting all relevent forms like health certs n ect. Some kolej assign room according to name listn some by 1st come 1st served meaning When u register, u write down name... the next person will have the room next to u(or might b same room also). So u got buddys, register at the same time... one by one...


thats all for now enjoy the orientation week. No ragging(just minor). Ragging is officially banned in UMS, one report n all those involved wil be sacked with immediate effect. Very strict since few years back ragging became a police case. Nevertheless, kacau2 abit may got la... so dont wory much k. i'll post the rest bout UMS in next issue

Added on June 21, 2007, 4:24 pmjust a lil reminder... u dont hav to pay whole fees during registration. just pay 100 or 200, the rest u tell u will pay after getting ptptn. if any of u got WPP rm1500 from ptptn, i advice u not to use it. The 1500 may come in handy now, but it will be deducted from ur ptptn on 2nd sem. ex: ptptn for 2nd sen u got 3300 in bank. about 1300 will go for uni sem fees. balance 2000-1500=500+/-

believe me, 500 is not enough for 1 whole sem. u will end up stacking maggie only. Unless ur parents can support for extra money later, dont use the 1500 now. I have a fren u came from poor family, he end up going on diet(pg minum milo, ptg 2 roti canai, mlm milo dengan roti gardenia). The 1500 check wont mention that this sum will be deducted later from loan. So not many ppl knew about it. Everyone tout extra allowence from goverment.

i think the payung they gave sure is because they wanna asked us walk very far in hot sun.so the payung will be useful that time.about rehearsel d song sure because they wanna us sing it or else kena denda lo.

frist i want to congratulate u that u get kg E. it is a nice kg, got wireless but need to pay, got 2 small grocer's shops, cyber cafe, not need to walk outside to take bus..... so kg E is the most luxurious hostel among kg ABCD. but i think it is worst that u get kg E during ur orientation week .. cuz during that week there may be no buses will provide for newbies.. so u guys have to walk here and there with ur own legs for one week.. since the kg E is very very far from other kgs and places, so that time u will know lah.. (those who get kg ABCD are very lucky) hope u can get back kgE after the orientation week la
about the roomate... we found out that the roomates during last year orientation were arranged according to birthday.. it's true cuz last time my two roomates' birthday are closed to mine.. one is same birthday with me and another is the next day..two of them are same race with me... but this year i dun know how they will arrange la.. i just wanna share what i know
but dun worry too much la.. ums is a great and pretty place.. sure u will like it when u step in there...

im going to be a 2nd year student soon....
yup there's 2 ums campuses...one in kk(induk) the other one is in Labuan...all the international courses is in labuan...as for me, im in labuan taking international marketing

labuan hostel quite nice...the hostel sort of like an apartment or flat.. got kitchen in it,balcony, ...3 bedrooms..nice place to study...but not the kind of place to shop

last year students selected to study in labuan stay at kg E...nice place...
just to remind those who get kg E...during the orientation dont wear ur expensive formal shoes... it will ruin by the end of ur orientation....trust me!!!

do not unpack ur belonging..
just pretend dat u sick if u dun wanna join the activities....(that's wat i do, tak pernah katoi) huhuhu

one more thing for those going labuan...dun get frustrated when u arrive in labuan...try to adapt to the environment...n have fun!!!!!!!!

Going to be 3rd year software engineering student here..glad to noe many of u are coming to UMS, anyway..orientation is actually a good thing that introduces u to UMS, though it's kinda tiring..but it's a good memory..if u guys complaing about goin to sleep late and wake up early..trust me, it's been my routine for the past folowing 2 years..haha

my ums fren dyes her hair every now and then i guess its not a problem. unless u're medic student. and unless u have rainbow-coloured hair, i bet the school will come up with a 'u're distracting the rest' as a reason to object.

oh... cause i done highlight early of the year and still can see some of the colours... my friends who got upm was really fed up when they have to dye their hair to black again. anyway, is round neck collar shirt accepted? or it must be collar shirt? is jeans really not allowed?

it really depends on wat course u're doing. like medic fac students are guaranteed to be asked to wear formal every day for class. some like counselling in unimas too. but majority courses shud b allowed to wear round-collar t-shirts + jeans.
