It's ok. Not a silly topic. Good to know and share the info as not everyone here is a seasoned rider

Oil service will be the biggest difference.

Tyres, chain and sprocket also makes a big difference.

600 CC sprocket / chain is like RM 500 ( depends on chain type )

Tyres is like RM 1000 for a set.

Depends on the tyres. SuperCorsa 123 is around RM 350 + ( if not mistaken for the rear ). So if budget properly you can get decent tyres around RM500 + a pair.

Yes, tyres depends on your usage and expectations. You wan performance, then pay more.

cant really compare CC to check on maintenance cost...

in terms of normal service, main difference is the amount of engine oil. typically, more pistons, more engine oil.

the CB250R is a single piston which means itll use lesser oil than a 2 piston 250cc bike like the R25 or Ninja 250.

just like the ER6n which is a 2 piston will use less oil than a 4 piston XJ6

cost will also depend on the price of oil u use (sold in 1L bottles). spark plug also depends on number of pistons.

other than that, theres the oil filter cost... diff bikes has diff pricing for their oil filters. major maintenance is valve clearance every 40k km.

then theres the wear and tear stuff....

tires - if u dont need super duper knee and elbow dragging corner performance, u can get a set of 110 and 150 tires (front and rear set) for below RM450 such as the Corsa S123 and Metzeler Sportec Street. both are decent tires and i prefer the Corsa for wet roads. both lasts a decent amount of distance too. 600cc typically uses 120/160 combo...some even 180 i think.

chain and sprocket - can get a set below RM400 for a 250cc.... 600cc i think gonna be around 5xx. typically lasts about 20k km depending on how u maintain it.

and of course insurance and road tax will have quite a big gap.

Some bikes really need the exact manufacture spare parts. eg Ducati. They must be Ducati's own sprockets and such. Well talk about Ducati, they have Desmo that will cost differently compare to other bikes around.

Likewise Kawasaki & Yamaha, there are tonnes other 3rd party manufacture for parts, both for looks (read: ah beng) or performance/wear & tear specific replacements.

Depends on 600cc. If ure comparing 2 pistons 250cc to 4 pistons 600cc of course there’s a major difference.

Wow... for Z900, I roughly get 220 km - 240 km for 13.5+- L

Btw, to TS, have you ever rode a sports bike before? 250cc vs 600cc is totally different in terms of handling and power delivery. 600cc if not handled properly, is a widow maker (actually, any bike pun) sweat.gif .

wah... ur on constant eco mode ka?

my old z250 full tank gets about 250km on normal day to day ride...in and out of eco mode with occasional spirited riding (aka late for work)

current z900 gets about 220-240km per tank on same riding style

Maintenance on CBR250R is cheaper compare to Ninja since single cylinder engine.
