I think I mentioned static public IP, meaning public IP that is static/fixed & never change for business users eg 42.188.65.66, not internal 192.168.0.1. Home users get public IP that changes from to time, hence DDNS need for internal IP cameras etc. Perhaps I termed it wrong.
*
Yes, you termed it correctly. But, the issue here is about public IP, and NOT static IP. It seems that TM is starting to allocate private IP to its users on the Unifi Basic 30Mbps plan.

From The Official Maxis FTTH Thread:

Haiya, maxis already use private ip since the old days.
Then TM is better and late in implementing to unifi customers
*
You can request for public iP from Maixs though.

I heard that TM diam diam changed Unifi Basic Plan 30mbps (RM79) IP from public to private. All system that need to do port forwarding down. Anybody encountered same problem?
*
Yes, you are right. Some users were complaining about this issue few pages back.

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Apr 30 2019, 12:14 AM)
Holy fark  shocking.gif , I almost jumped ship to maxis..........thanks for the information......
*
You can still request for public IP.

Hi Unifi Gurus

I need some help regarding internet dropping (globe LED turning orange) every 3-7 minutes whenever unifiTV is being used. However, when unifiTV isn't in use, this hardly happens - maybe just once a week. Here are my details:

1. 100Mbps RM129 plan
2. TP Link C1200 router (provided by TM)
3. STB, previously Huawei EC2108E. Now upgraded by TM to Huawei EC6108V8 after complaint but the problem persists
4. Port has been reset by TM - no difference, still
Have been looking around but seems nobody having the same problem. The close I can get are just some users who cannot get unifiTV at all with their privately-sourced routers.

Please advise...

Sounds like it could be router issue. Did you try with another router?

It is impossible to get that type of numbers of 2.4GHz, so it must be 5GHz.

Thinking about switching. Just not sure about the stability of Time. Read about some growing problems at Time's thread on LYN. Also, I'm worried about property damage that I've seen at some of my neighbors' houses.

Don't think. Just go for TIME.

Since my old router is unable to support Turbo speed 300Mbps at both LAN and Wifi (Up to 100Mbps only), I have decided to get a free router replacement by renewing contract with TM.

I did consider to top up money to purchase a better router and might get better performance in Wifi. But as we all know, it is not possible get full Wifi speed 300Mbps in real life, due to signal coverage, distance, network congestion and interference. So I am ok with it as long as the Wifi speed can achieve 100~200Mbps.

May I know which has the best performance among the stock router (TP-Link C1200, D-Link DIR-842, D-Link DIR-850L) provided by TM?
*
Just get your own. Honestly, it is more worth it.

FE or Fast Ethernet. It supports up to 100Mbps.

wow c3150 - RM799

My unifi router is AC1200 TP-LINK but it is from TM. Black with three anthena. I am only running 300mbps.

Get the C2300. It is cheaper.

QUOTE(officeBoy @ May 2 2019, 11:45 AM)
Thanks bro for the guidance, mine look like D-Link DIR-615 , and could be older model as i didn't see slot on front surface.

in this case, if upgrade, can we go TM and ask for modem change ? worst case, which modem is worth to invest in ?
*
Refer to 1st page, 1st post, green text, for list of routers. You can't change modem. You are probably confused between modem and router. If you are using the modem in the picture above, it is still good to use as it has gigabit port, which supports up to 1000Mbps. I suggest you read ALL the green text at the 1st page, 1st post, of this thread to educate yourself in home networking.

Got a question about Unifi's residential infrastructure- why does closing an existing contract (already past 2yr contract), and starting a new contract require a new port at the same address? I was told that adding new ports meant pulling new cables.
Customer service advised me to change ownership instead and change the plan (if needed).
*
They probably need to transfer you to a different port, as the existing port is under your old contract. TM works in mysterious ways lol.

Strange. Anyway I read your post#1 faq and you said that Tplink c1200 router has many firmware/hardware issues. I know about the chromecast issue and theres already a firmware fix for that early this year. What sort of other problems exactly and have those been resolved?
And are there any backdoor, security risks, alternate logins that I should be aware of? I remembered one old Unifi router had the issue of having an alternate "Management" login and a security bug which was fixed by new firmware.
*
Just stability issues. Otherwise, it is okay besides the issues that you have already mentioned.

Thank you OP for the incredible help of compiling everything.

Also, just today I went to TM and complain of not being able to reach 500mbps, as I was stuck at 50. The technician came later in the evening and gave me a new router (Dlink DIR-842), which fixed the problem.

But now there's a new problem. The technician was able to reach 400ish mbps on his laptop while my laptop (Acer Aspire V15) only reach 100ish mbps while on the same cat5e cable. Can't really find the solution to this.

And also, anyone can recommend a good and clean method of hooking an extended wifi connection to my room with the same speed as the router? I'm on powerline but it's not as strong as I expected. Only getting 30-40ish.

Cheers and have a good one
*
Try a different browser, and use a different cable. Cat 6, perhaps. Powerline is not a good idea. Use mesh WiFi.

Thank you the swift reply really appreciate it. Yes using Firefox does indeed fix the problem, reaching 500ish mbps on tm speedometer  on cat5e next to my router and a 10meter cat5e also has the same results on firefox.

If let's say on Mesh, does one still get speed around up to 400ish? Wifi in my home is shitty and I may look into this.
*
Probably not. The best solution is still wired AP, but mesh is the best solution after wired AP. Consider the Deco M5, or even M9.

Just got maxis fiber 300Mbps home installed to replace my UnifiBiz 500Mbps.

Yep. Got the red/pink form to give to TM for cancellation purpose later.
Technician just reuse back the TM Unifi modem with Maxis router.
Received TPLink Archer C5V AC1200.

I just knew that both Unifi and Maxis can run under one single modem. Wow, didn't know that is possible until today. (Haven't cancel my Unifi yet)
My old router still on 500Mbps Unifi and the Maxis router on 300mbps Maxis line. Cool.
*
What’s so surprising? They use different ports and different VLAN, so that is no surprise.

Haha. yeah. Always thought one modem one line use only.
Looking at the back of modem, it has 4 ports so we can use one modem up to 4 lines? Never had multiple lines before. tongue.gif

How many lines can use per modem actually?
*
Only two is being used at the moment, Port 1 for TM, and Port 2 for Maxis. It is a waste of money to have two lines, unless you have a business and wants redundancy.

You will need a decent router that is quite pricey and devices that can support 500Mbps over Wi-Fi, which means that this speed won't be fully utilized.

AC86U already sufficient to get 500mbps. Even ip6s manage to get around 460mbps
*
Yes, thank you for your input. You just proved my point, which is you need a decent router and devices to support the speed. The AC86U is theoretically a router that can support 800Mbps, so 500Mbps is no worries for that router.

QUOTE(Area51SE @ May 13 2019, 09:25 PM)
If i were to buy a router to support Unifi Turbo 500mbps, is it recommended to get it from TM @ RM188? It seems to be cheaper compared to buying those outside i.e. IT Hypermarket where they are selling the same router for like RM249.
*
I would suggest reading the 1st page, 1st post, green text, for list of routers that support the 500Mbps speed over wifi. TM's router doesn't really support the speed over wifi. Yes on wired.

Flagship Phone from 2019 should can get 800mbps

Update:
(With decent router)
(My family just bought p30 pro,and i only have ac66u(non-b1) can only run near 500mbps-cpu usage max problem)
(Better router should can get almost 700+ mbps i think)
*
Probably not. Mobile phones are only 2x2 MIMO so theoretical max speed should be 867Mbps, but it won’t ever reach that high usually.

WiFi 6 is different, of course. I am talking about most mobile devices that are in the market now, with therm only supporting AC, or WiFi 5. Hell, some budget mobile phones only support N, or WiFi 4, so getting that type of speed is near impossible.
