Received SMS yesterday upgrading account for the new app. Tested the new app, UI looks slightly better but the main problem is still there. There is no setting to choose resolution/video quality??? Or is it hidden somewhere? Its crazy to be watching like 480p or 720p tv shows when my unifi speed is running 300mbps. Not even 4k or 1080p. Immediately closed the app.

I think the play quality will adapt to the network quality

It’s not hidden. It’s simply isn’t there at all.

Also, to subscribe anything, like the U PICK movie rental, still have to be transactional via web browser only (except Android OS, Huawei I’m not sure). This also includes its Smart TV app.

Anyway, finally, the new Unifi TV 2.0 supports the Smart TV app. Mine's using a 2022 Samsung Smart TV UHD.

Starting tomorrow, July 29, existing customers will begin transitioning to the new app.

thats just ridiculous, there should have been an option to manually choose resolution from the very beginning.

How to view new apps? I haven’t receive sms from unifi saying i can use the new unifi tv?
*
Right now, you can install the new app. Just browsing around for now, can't play yet cuz your account is still on the old Unifi TV app access.

So wait for the official Unifi SMS first. I know, I'm excited for this change too.

They have already started the move - my Unifi TV account has already moved to the new version.

They will request to create a new password, if you are setting it for the first time.

Of course, each time you login or made major changes, you will be requested to enter OTP. Password itself is no longer enough for login. Please ensure you link the correct mobile phone number or email on Unifi self care.

In short, the password will be OTP message right?

Both. If you are login into a device for the first time with Unifi TV ID (Unifi TV subscriber), OTP is needed alongside password. Once a device has been login once, you can use password instead of using OTP.

For non Unifi TV subscriber (registered via email), then you always need OTP.

Initial experience of the app :

Frequent playback error on live TV, especially when compared to the earlier version, which doesn't give the same error at all (despite connecting to home WiFi).

While the experience of the new UI itself is good, the UI struggled to load the EPG somehow (it loaded very slowly), making the switch to other channels much, much slower than the old app.

The second statement holds true. In earlier versions—HyppTV Everywhere and unifi PlayTV/Unifi TV 1.0—the interface first displayed the TV guide, and only upon selection did it transition to the live player.

In contrast, the current version operates noticeably slower, as the live player and TV guide now coexist on a single page.

Additionally, on the mobile app, you’ll find inconsistencies in the top menu bar placements across Home, U PICK, and Streaming Apps sections.

Also, Unifi TV is bringing the Phoenix Hong Kong Channel, not the Phoenix Chinese Channel (the one that’s available on Astro).

[UPDATE] TVB Jade (Ch 231), TVB Xing He (Ch 232), and Phoenix HK (Ch 236) are now live. MangoTV seems unavailable at the moment.

An à la carte subscription to these channels is available for just RM9/month.

Only TVB Jade got HD upscaled on Unifi TV. Consider streaming its HK feed on TVBAnywhere+ (Channel/Premium Zone) for a full HD viewing.

Phoenix HK is in Cantonese, focusing on Hong Kong. While Phoenix Chinese is broader in terms of programming in Mandarin.

Actually, Phoenix HK, while do have HK focus, has been simulcasting most of the Phoenix Chinese Channel content, since it's arrival as a terrestrial TV channel in HK, after a deal was stroked with TVB.

You can considered it as a "regional variant".

After the 2024 rebrand, there are some Cantonese news content and Cantonese shows there, but most other content are now in Mandarin (simulcast of Phoenix Chinese Channel). The schedule is not the same to the Phoenix Chinese Channel.

Maybe Phoenix HK is cheaper than its counterpart?

Testing using Unifi TV old web interface

TVB Jade, Xing He and Phoenix HK are all on air now, these 3 channels were not listed before login

Mango TV was listed before login but disappeared after login

Perhaps they already concentrating migrating to new interface

And, wonder why Unifi did not really promote this additional channels, I wouldn't know if I did not read here

Anyway, happy for the new channels & good job Unifi TV

Not sure about that, but some programming (mainly news) are simulcast live with the main Phoenix channel.

This variant has specific split programming, most notably Cantonese news (initially just 1 when it becomes available on terrestrial TV in HK, but has since currently expanded to 3 slots - at 1pm, 7pm and 10pm), and of course selected range of Cantonese language programming.

While they do use content from the main Phoenix channel which is in Mandarin, the scheduling on off peak hours (outside some Mandarin news simulcasts) are not the same as the main Phoenix channel.
