That statement is focused on app not OS.
When they build app, the developer will add any required function/feature that they want that the OS support as long it follow Google's app quality standard to be released on Google Play Store
In this case, Android TV OS support number pad because it is based on AOSP but for apps it depends on the app developer(or decision maker) to add the key code to their app and the shitty Unifi TV UI has nothing to do with with it.
Refer here for list of keycode Android support: https://developer.android.com/reference/and...d/view/KeyEvent
It is now up to TM to provide better app and take advantage of what Android TV(Operator Tier) offer to them. Android TV is not perfect but there's is a lot can be done.
Indeed. But the article also mentiones that most STB will only come with the numpad-less remote, with the numpad equipped remote are usually for TVs with built in Android TV. What I meant is that since TM would be using a third party box it's unlikely that they are willing to pony up the fees to have a custom remote with numpad (unlike Astro with their Samsung made box), and would just defer to the default remote design.
