No Netflix icon on the box & remote..
Meaning not Netflix certified? 🤔

It is one of the requirement to get Netflix endorsement by adding a dedicated Netflix button on the remote during the official launch unless the endorsement received after the launch.
This means that this box is not Netflix certified now even though the SoC/manufacturer have the endorsement.

It is not easy/simple to receive Netflix certified compare to other apps which is officially available on Android TV Playstore for all device but it is blocked by region or exclusive to certain partners.

Similar remote but voice button position not same.
Btw, the manufacturer is not Videostrong.

Here is some possible extra information on the new Unifi Plus Box:

Are u using Malaysia google play account?
The app is only available for Malaysia region on Play Store.

Alternative, u can sideload the apk..

Are you using US Google account on the box?
The app is only available for Malaysia Google account.

Login with same account & check if your mibox is listed as supported device.

Also can you try to access the link on your mibox to open the unifi tv app section on play store & see if there is any error message.

Emm.. that's weird..
I remember before this mibox 3 user can install the app from playstore unless TM decide to drop support which will be weird coz till today Xiaomi is still releasing updates.

Did you manage to install the app via playstore before this?
Did u change any settings via adb? Like DPI?

Not sure want is happening, maybe can try the following;-
1. Try to use new google account
2. Factory reset

Where did u bought it?
Does the box support Chromecast?
Can u screenshot the about section with build number.

If there has not been any update from them then it is not a good sign..

UPB users should email TM or MCMC regarding this issue.

Good, hopefully they will forward this to their OEM for immediate action.
By right OEM should be aware of this & released the patches every few months. Iinm, this is part of certification requirements by Google.
Best if more users report this issue to them & local tech websites join to amplify this..

Actually, both Mibox & UPB are under different tier group, Mibox is under consumer group while UPB is under operator group.

For UPB, i think the bug fix & updates are maintain by ODM/OEM which in this case is Skyworth but they will still need to liaise with TM while Mibox is maintain by the brand(Xiaomi) itself.
However, all updates will still go through Google's QA/QC approval before releasing to end user via Google's server.

I wholeheartedly agree to this..

I've totally gave up on them & was lucky to move to different ISP..

Try to bring this matter to MCMC..
Make noise about this issue since u guys are paying for the box not all users got it free..

Unifi Plus Box is Google certified product not normal AOSP. It is one of the requirements by Google that their certified partners released updates to their devices for two or three years.

Other than Shield TV there are also other certified box receive firmware updates like Tivo 4K, Dynalink, Mibox & etc..

That box is a RDK OTT box and doesn't have any satellite input.
Looks like TM will use their own customized OS like Astro.

The OEM is Skyworth and model no is HP43A.

Customized OS based on open source platform either Linux or AOSP.
That RDK box does not have any OS so it's up to TM to develop the OS own self or use other vendor to develop including Skyworth's own development team. They still/will can port patner's apps to their platform.
The reason why they are doing this probably due to they will have more control over the OS compare to Android TV Operator-tier..

Not sure why they use the word 'hybrid' but i highly doubt that it has anything to do with satellite and iinm the partnership with Astro is similar to what Astro did with Allo.

If you don't mind, can you share or point me to the source regarding astro's plan to allow android apps installation on their box. Tq.

Both UPB and AT&T TV are using Android TV(Operator Tier).

They don't need to release new box to do the same thing on existing UPB.

Google gave operators enough control/freedom to integrate the app in to the system and it's up to operator to take advantage of it.
TM can make their own launcher with customized UI/UX and replaced the Android TV launcher with it but they didn't took the opportunity to do it instead they made half baked app.

Yup the image is 99% same as HP43A.

Even though, Skyworth has Android TV box with similar design as the UPB 2nd gen but none of them support AV1.
Starting this year(Q2) any new certified Android/Google TV release must support AV1.

Hopefully they choose proper remote this time with number button.
