 charging reasonably?, Grab service

Hi everyone !

May i know how can i check whether i am paying reasonably for grab car service or not?

I have recently used the grab car service from penang airport (island) to sungai dua (mainland), the grab driver charged me RM 45 for the trip in conjunction with RM 9 for the self- claimed toll. Thus, the total cost is RM 54.

She claimed that although there is no toll charges from island to mainland, but if we take the grab from island, there is a guarantee RM 9 toll charges.


May i confirm is this is true??


I took this service at around 6.30pm on saturday. There is no jam during my journey back. If this is unfair, how can i make the report?

Sorry I am not familiar with Penang.
Do we pay RM9 toll from mainland to island but not the other way around? If that's the case, the driver was overcharging.

You should know the fare (excluding toll and parking) from rider's app.

The toll booth itself charge only RM 5 per entry from Mainland to Island and no toll charges from Island to Mainland.

Grab driver do charge when we enter to island, but i am not sure if it is RM 9. (if they really charge RM 9, they already earn easy profit of RM 4 for the toll charges itself)

From the app, it shows that the fare is RM 45. but i guess this is excluding the toll of RM 9?

I think this is really unfair to us as a customer.

Not to side on the driver, but on what basis do you claim that the charges is unfair? The Grab fair shown on the app does not include tol, hence the best way is to find out the tol charges before jumping into conclusion.
What about Taxi, could they be cheaper than the RM54 you've paid?

Likewise u can check your rider apps, click on the fare structure and bottom there will show surcharge from island to mainland.

Yes the driver is correct. Dont have to make any report.
Doesn't matter from or to mainland, both ways will be charged toll amount. (even though one of the way is free)

Driver is correct.

Mainland > Island or
Island > Mainland

there are surcharge RM9 toll

Wow... Oh i see... Grab didn't inform all user ? That's mean after the driver drop off you, if the driver got customer from sungai dua (mainland) to airport (island), the driver earn RM9 again ?

most of the time empty car back

i think passenger apps got written, but alot didnt notice them

NO that is wrong. You may report to GRAB for further actions.

And also did u pay RM9 separately is is not key-ed into the Grab system?

Surcharge is not toll charge. That means cross-channel rides are subject to RM9 on top of whatever fare is calculated by the Grab app, and the receipt details should then show the fare for the ride and then separately the toll charge. This means that if there is a toll charge, it will be on top of this RM9 surcharge. Wow...
