Noob question here, can I install expressVPN and watch netflix and disney+ using this box?

read back last 2-3 pages, a couple of sellers were named.

i never used but... like any decent box, pretty sure vpn will work.

how well, i dunno... and netflix, it will be just SD, not HD... since no certification.

First timer user of this android box. Got the TX3 mini set from the seller whom many in this forum have bought from. Received my set within 1 week of order confirmation.

I have read through all the comments in this thread before the purchase in particular comments from AVFAN, SCThong, and this has helped me very much in installing Astro Go. Matter of fact, with the No Root option in this set and the APKPure file, the installation process was straight forward.

At present, the set is connected by wireless and the router is practically next to it. So apparently no impact from hindrance by walls and distance issue but some lagging is noted. Would connecting by Ethernet help to improve?

Do a speed test of your current setup then we would know.

- 5ghz wifi is useless only can get 40+ mbps better use LAN
- around 60c
- with root close option

- better 5ghz better with external antenna 140mbps+, good if your router placement is unreachable to LAN
- around 80c+ no problem watching video, never tried playing games.
- no root close option, need to delete some root files to unroot

both with alice ui not 100% compatible with my wechip w1 airmouse, sometimes need to disable mouse to select ok/cancel

Just done a number of speed tests on the set. Readings in the range of 18 to 23 Mbps. At the same time, i have also done a speed test on my mobile phone and the reading is around 45 Mbps. Both running at 2.4GHz

2.4 GHz is not very satisfactory for video streaming because it usually has interference from neighbours.

If possible use 5GHz or cable. But boxes without external antenna, the 5GHz is usually much more difficult to get good reception. So use cable.

tx3 5ghz is n, not ac... Just a bit better than 2.4ghz.

always use LAN cable whenever u can.
Note it is max 100mbps, u likely will get 95 or so.

Boxes without ext antenna cant excel with WiF

WiFi...tx3 mini, max, tx3 s905x3... All about same.

you got old CPU flat heatsink? try to sandwitch TV box between two heatsink. At least the box wont hot, but still wont help much on cooling the chip inside.

Tanix TX3 S905X3 - a brief evaluation.

Amlogic S905x3 soc, 4+64gb, android9, Alice UI.
1xusb 3.0, 1xusb 2.0, 100mbps rj45, 2.4ghz/5ghz (N).
the rest, u can google n read.

.. has root switch under settings/superuser - u just close it to install/run current official apk's that require unrooted, e.g. astrogo, unifi playtv.

.. 4k HDR 60hz work fine with KODI player; there is a Dolby Vision enabled option - never tested, same with 8K since my equipment isn't such.

.. audio - with movie player app and kodi, u can dd/dd+/dts 5.1 local playback, video is smooth. VLC and MX player apps can't produce DD/DTS.

(too bad, it CANNOT do hd audio like dtshdma, ddtruehd like tx5max, unlike tx3 mini/max which can.
i think this is due to tx3 mini/max uses older, more mature AML s905w; whereas newer s905x2, s905x3, s922x - most low cost boxes cannot do hd audio.)

.. there is no auto frame rate (AFR) feature but streaming/playback is smooth (tx3mini/max has it but does not work!).
using kodi player, no micro stutters even when playing a 2160p hdr BDMV/m2ts file of 60mbps bit rate.

.. picture quality - much like tx5 max, good enough, not very diff from tx3 mini/max.

.. apps - all common apps work fine; including astrogo, unifi playtv, china apps, ahem apps.

.. wifi - ethernet, u get 95-96mbps, wifi 5ghz (n) 40-50mbps if close enough; wifi 2.4ghz 30-40mbps if within good range.
(tx5max has AC wifi, gigabit port - i get 820mbps with ethernet, 200mbps wifi - this is why it is more expensive but is no longer in Tanix product offer.

.. plenty of storage, i dumped in many apps, still 55gb available.

.. no overheating issue.. it stays a bit warm only after several hours.

.. the box has option for remote power button to "shut down" or "sleep"; sleep is useful - it hibernates instantly and reactivates instantly.

.. there is a screen saver feature - u can select default screen or a pic of yr own.

.. big storage is useful for p2p usage, e.g. kodi quasar works very well, smoother than 2 other boxes 2+16gb that I have.

.. Alice UI - u can replace all shortcuts on the screen, top and bottom section.


my overall assessment of this new tx3 s905x3: for its price, it is well worth it.
for those who do not need big storage, the 4+32gb should be more than sufficient.
i like this new tx3 more than tx3 mini/max for its smoother video playback; tx3 mini/max stutters a bit with huge videos but can do hd audio.
i guess u can't have it all for such a price.
