guys, u had fun... so did i! sweat.gif

tx3mini owners, be very careful with trying to change the firmware!
i had the honor of bricking my unit TWICE  laugh.gif but it's all good now.

in the process of upgrading, i encountered severe problems... read and read until i found a solution.
the trouble is this: there are several variations "TX3 Mini"... tx3 mini, tx3 mini-A, tx3 mini-L, etc...
some firmwares CANNOT be applied on the wrong model.
my unit is labeled tx3 mini-A at the back.

initially, i used the ZIP method to upgrade to TX3 Max Version 20180321 zip - the box bricked.
used burning tool to flash with 20180321 img - burning stuck at 7%, no good.
the life saver was THIS, a big THANK YOU!:
burned it with TX3Mini-20181210.img first to breathe life in it again.
then use zip method, upgrade to tx3maxp281-ota-20181101.zip

how diff is tx3max 20180321 firmware from 20181101, i have no idea.
but what i now have is excellent:

.. Alice UI.
.. root closing option in settings remains.
.. auto framerate switching now works better, can see 24, 25, 30 hz message popping up on the TV.
.. lossless audio is obtained with kodi player - dtshdma, ddtruehd.
.. astrogo, unifi playtv work fine once u close root.
.. (i can safely say tx3max should be an excellent value box.)

for those wanting to change firmware, please be careful, know what u r doing... if not, u lose the box! biggrin.gif

frankly, i tried quite a few things... don't even remember where i got some of those zip's and img's...!! laugh.gif

good luck!

weird crazy chinese manufacturers.. how many variants they want to churn out from a single line of tx3 mini?? what i heard tx3 mini new one also already got bluetooth.. so that is basically a tx3 max.. but no, they sell it as tx3 mini.. then there's tx3 mini-a.. this one goes to tx6 as well.. tx6 with single band wifi, tx6 with no bluetooth.. damn, why not make a single hardware variant so easy for people to look for the firmware? so call oem manufacturers. LOL

tanix is just as bad as beelink... lots of variations for one primary model.

anyway, for the price of rm10x for tx3mini, u can upgrade to tx3 max yrself...

or buy rm13x for a tx3max... such prices, nothing more to ask.

both can do all popular apps incl astrogo, unifi playtv.

tx3max is better - alice UI, faster, bluetooth, auto framerate switch.

native player is not so good but can use kodi to playback dts/dd/dd+/dtshdma/ddtruehd... expectedly, it cannot handle full bluray bdmv smoothly.

still, with such a low affordable price with good capabilities, nothing more to ask.

tx6 is not a good model, imo.

i hope tanix will soon come out with a new AML s922x model... i will be interested.

yep, takes some interest and work to make it good.

i hv played with my tx3mini->tx3max for a couple of days now... thumbsup.gif thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

for rm105, it is well worth it.

for a general user not demanding the highest advanced performance, tx3max is, in my experience, the most affordable good choice.

other lousy rm200-300 ones... please move aside. laugh.gif

If you mean cast to TV feature, where the mobile device acts as a remote control to control the YouTube App on the Tx3, then yes.
I think can continue surfing other YouTube clips on mobile and add more clips to the current TV YouTube play list. All this done by linking both apps via a TV code serial number, if I am not mistaken.

Other than that, dunno any other YouTube cast youi might be referring to.

This feature very convenient to search YouTube on mobile devices and have the clip shown on TV via the Tx3 YouTube app. I think Smart YouTube app is also capable of this.

Your upgraded Tx3 mini to Tx3 max suddenly has Bluetooth built-in feature? Just want to clarify, if so I am also interested to upgrade, LMAO.

I will be amazed if the hardware is available all along on the board.

for its price, nothing is likely to beat what it can do.
but not good for you... becos u and some others always look for netflix HD.
no tanix model offers this or claim to be able to do L1-netflix hd/4k... so, no headaches with fake, temp, yes/no L1... tongue.gif
seriously, get a new 4k hdr tv with netflix - your life becomes much easier... have more time to actually watch nice videos. biggrin.gif

honestly, if u haven't been mucking around with such boxes, my advice is dun try to upgrade firmware.
it can be a nightmare... u might give up and be left holding a brick or paper weight.
about kodi, i can tell u 3 things:
.. kodi USED to be a fabulous app but due to copyright issues, court cases, nobody is putting anything great there anymore, except..
.. quasar/elementum - these addons, u need to know enough to install properly for it to work.
.. kodi as a player for local playback is good, i.e. yr own video files on HDD, plug into USB to play. (instead of using native "movie player", mx or vlc.)

what r u doing with it now?

tx3 is not the most powerful box but is capable enough for the 2 most common uses - online streaming and local playback.

i doubt it is good enough for gaming and other uses like networking tasks, nas, cctv...

free movies are found with astro go, hbo go, unifi playtv, iflix - if u have the id's and pw's.

else, i can suggest u google apktime and malavida, explore yourself.

i own tx3 mini before, must admit that 2gb ram + 16gb rom is more than sufficient to run but not as silky smooth as those 4gb ram + 64gb rom devices.

as for s905w chipset, i personally tested it not able to stream youtube 4k 60fps / HEVC video....max 4k 30fps video

other chipset like s912, s905x2, rk3328, s922x can easily handle 4k 60fps youtube video but price may double or tripple of tx3 mini and some model not even support AOTG (the best iptv in terms of picture quality in my opinion)

yes, there are 3+32, 4+32, 4+64gb specs boxes.
such big numbers attract attention, u may think "the higher the better".
not necessarily.

2+16gb has been available since android4 6-7 years ago.
and they still exist today.
but with newer chipsets, soc, newer android versions, better firmware.
and firmware is highly dependent on the box manufacturer.
needless to say, some do very good firmwares with frequent updates; some stop at one lousy firmware, never to update.

while generally speaking, 3 or 4 + 32 or 64 typically start up/shut down and operates faster, the rest is never a given.
for most users, 2+16 is minimum recommended; with a good firmware, it works very well, nothing really lost.
unless u plan to install 1000 apps or store movies in the box, 16gb storage is typically adequate.
i will take a proven 2+16 box over an unproven 4+32 anytime.

look out for 2 more things:
1. overheating issues - google and see if there are many users reporting it.
2. overall physical appearance - some are solid while others look poor - casing, connections, antenna (if any), air vents...

Yes, tried... using usb, .zip.... it bricked... that was the second time, both times due to that 2080321.zip.

Did everything again, stopped at 20181101.zip... all ok again.

My experience may be due to the actual model diff from others, can't tell.

And I do not know if the 2 are very diff, likely not.

Also, 20181101 appears to be NOV, later than 2080321, MARCH. Well, maybe not, dunno....

I am now testing tx3 mini-a.. looks like new variant, bluetooth, dual band wifi..

The one that I have is having open/close root function..

Also power key definition.. really similar to tx3 max..

I performed full manual unroot, and the new aotg is working fine..

As for now, u cant get the firmware of TX3 Mini-A from chinagadgetreviews.. only way to get the firmware is to ask reseller to get back to factory and ask them the img file.. so, unless u know what u are doing, dont try anything funny and regret later if the box is bricked..

I had similar experience with MX10 6K box. The firmware is nowhere to be found on the web. Then I have to get it from the factory in China. What a mess.
