Wanted to buy a box for a relative. I understand mi box s more hassle free, can update Google playstore, Netflix, apps normally like you would on a normal android phone.
Can I sideload apps as well? Does preinstalled mi box s(plenty on shopee) any different than a sealed?
I mean, what are the differences between preinstalled and a sealed mi box s (other than the apps preinstalled obviously)? Differences on things like how they work. Like is sealed one rooted? Can't run or update from Google play store? Can't run Netflix from PlayStore?

I have tx3, preinstalled and Netflix is working(not sure running fhd or what) but I notice the app is old version. Like 4.0 something and latest from PlayStore/APK mirror is 7.0 something.

If I understand your questions correctly, you are asking what's the difference between the preinstall apps in generic boxes versus Mibox sold by sellers who open up the sealed box to install apps. You also queried difference between sealed and not sealed miboxS box.

Your raise such worries because your Tx3 uses old Netflix version which requires sideload install whilst miboxS can update directly from Playstore.

I just want something plug and play really, no tweak needed, no learning curve because buying/recommending for a relative.
And because it's from Xiaomi surely they make a device pretty and operate-able to even non tech savvy person.
Also, being certified with widevine L1 for things like Netflix, Amazon Prime and at the same time can sideload apk(probably seller provide guide) in case she want to subscribe to one of those "IPTV services".
A bit hesitated to recommend TX3(which I'm using currently) in case things go wrong and need to tweak here and there.

Another thing, would Netflix apk from APKPure for example which currently on 7.61.0 would work on TX3 if I don't mind the resolution? I mean, would it be fine to update my Netflix app(4.16.3) on my TX3 to the latest version from APKPure?

Back to your original questions first.
Mibox S seller unbox to install apps. These apps are not available in Playstore. So no difference buying Tx3 or MiboxS based on this, as sideloaded apps don't auto update from Playstore. Unless you are particular of Android TV OS and Android Mobile OS. Furthermore most of these sideload apps are meant for Android mobile OS. In most cases, air mouse or just wireless mouse is required to navigate for these apps. So it defeats the purpose of MiboxS with its voice remote specifically for Android TV .

Difference MiboxS sealed and unsealed with preinstall?
No difference, those apps don't auto update from Playstore. See what seller install and preset for you. Some install cracked premium version, so for sure these apps don't update automatically from Playstore.

Plug and Play?
Depends on how you define PnP.
Mibox S is easy to learn even for the technically challenged ppl, but it is not PnP box in my definition.
PnP box in my definition are those illegal IPTV boxes like EV***, LongTV, UnB****, SV* C****, and a few more.

Buy for Relative recommendation!
Here is a very simple guide
1. Old folks or Ppl without IT know how - Illegal PnP boxes or Astro
2. Ppl who can use Android phone - MiboxS
3. Ppl who can tinker around, read a bit, or watch YouTube - Can recommend a cheap Tx3 to get a feel of what Android box can do as their first box.

Netflix!
If Netflix is top priority, as you already have existing account or intent on getting one - then Mibox S all the way. No need to look elsewhere. Or wait for the new Mibox Stick , around RM210. 4K version much more expensive than MiboxS. Netflix version, I have no idea. I don't use this app.

Illegal IPTV? Period based or Lifetime.
Here is where I get a bit upset. It is because if this is the route you are primarily considering - then all the above I have written is for nought. What boxes to get to go with these illegal services? No definitive answer, as it depends how you see your investment. Can buy better boxes so last longer ( maybe 5 years or more with your lifetime IPTV). Another way to look at it is get cheap one to use with period packages as usually these packages including the lifetime ones allow leeway to move your subscription to another device if the first is broken. And 99% of these IPTV doesn't require air mouse to navigate and they are easy to learn to use. Some boxes can even Auto-run the IPTV app upon startup. So the whole setup is very simple and easy to master.

It is a tough choice, so many things to consider for you. Hope I provided enough information for you to make an informed decision. Otherwise, best is to consult sellers. Problem is some sellers not willing to explain much.

Thank you. Relative falls into category 2 I guess. She has a Netflix account that can stream HD. Not the premium ultra HD plan with 4k stream. Her TV is 42" 1080p.
Currently on my TX3 I'm using, Netflix not so bad actually even though it's streaming at SD(960x540) on 42" 1080p tv. It doesn't look choppy unless standing 3 feet from the screen.
But feel a bit wasted if I recommend TX3 because can't fully utilise her Netflix account.
Surely get mi box s, right?

I can't make the decision for you.
If it was me, I also have to consider Mibox limited hardware capabilities.
Then consider AstroGo.

Otherwise all else almost same except for OS, Chromecast feasibility. voice remote also possible with Tx3 but require proper voice remote, the integration with Google Assistant is not polish like MiboxS. In Mibox only the sideloaded apps have to do something to find them in the box if they are purely Android mobile app. You best to consult others in Mibox thread regarding missing apps.

So as you see Not really PnP for MiboxS in my books. That is why some seller offer to unbox and set up the Mibox as PnP for a markup in price.

basically same specs, should be more or less same for youtube and "movies".

wifi performance may be diff.

tx3 well known capable of running astrogo and unifiplaytv.... the other, u need to check if that is impt to you.

Does TX3 905x3 support 1000m lan?
If it does will either get the 32 or 64gb version.
